This year s House of Delegates will convene on Wednesday, October 18th to elect four MNA Board positions: President; Treasurer; Director, Council on Nursing Education; and Director, Council on Organizational Affairs along with three members for the Committee on Nominations. The House of Delegates is important to MNA and to the advancement of the nursing profession. I commend all the MNA members serving in the House of Delegates. 15 106th Annual Convention CE Agenda Explore, Ignite, Excel: The Power of Nursing Welcome to MNA s 106th Annual Convention! The Power of Nursing will be on full display at the MNA 2017 Convention. The Convention Planning Committee and the Provider Unit have ensured that topics are aligned with our theme and arranged a stellar lineup of dynamic presenters. Although every effort has been made to finalize rooms as well as presenters and their presentations, please note that all event locations, presenters, and/or presentations are subject to change. Refer to the Mobile App for the most current session information. Continuing Education (CEs) The Mississippi Nurses Association is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. Hours are awarded only for the session hours you attend. Contact hours to be awarded for each session will be posted as part of the session announcements listed in this section of the Mississippi Nurses Association 2017 Annual Convention book and on the MNA Mobile App. To receive contact hours for a session, each attendee must: 1. Attend the entire session. 2. Complete the presentation evaluation on-line (available by Monday, October 30th certificates can be printed 24 hours after completing the evaluation). New Certification Process: Beginning Monday, October 30th you may log in and view all sessions that were available for the days you attended. Please complete surveys only for the sessions attended. 33 Convention Speakers Wednesday, October 18 LUNCHEON SPEAKER Re-Imagining the Role of Nurses in Population Health Paul Kuehnert, DNP, RN, FAAN Paul Kuehnert, DNP, RN, FAAN Dr. Paul Kuehnert serves as Assistant Vice President - Program, for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) where he provides leadership and management direction for the Foundation s work related to leadership and transforming health and health care systems. As an executive leader for more than 25 years, Dr. Kuehnert has led both governmental and community-based organizations in order to help people lead healthier lives. In the late 1980s he was a founder and later CEO of Community Response, Inc., one of the Chicago-area s largest housing, nutrition, and social service providers for people living with HIV/AIDS. He moved to Maine in 1999 and served in the state health department, leading the development of a regional public health system, and becoming deputy director of the department in From 2006 until 2012 when he joined RWJF, Dr. Kuehnert was the county health officer and executive director for health in Kane County, Illinois, a metro-chicago county of 515,000, where he worked with leaders from the private and public sectors to create the first county-level master plan in Illinois that integrated health, land use, and transportation. Dr. Kuehnert is a pediatric nurse practitioner and holds the Doctor of Nursing Practice in executive leadership as well as the Master of Science in public health nursing degrees from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He was named a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Executive Nurse Fellow in 2004 and inducted into the American Academy of Nursing in

By registering, presenting, volunteering, or participating in the MNA Convention, you grant MNA the right to use your name, photograph, and biography for such purposes. House of Delegates Rules & Procedures 1. Only delegates shall be seated in the section reserved for the House of Delegates. All delegates must wear their official name badge to all sessions of the House. 2. Delegate substitutions by an alternate must be authorized by the appropriate District President prior to the participation of the alternate. 3. All questions concerning those entitled to vote shall be referred to the Credentials Committee. Final seating of contested delegates shall present his/her voting ticket to election officials before being issued an official ballot. 4. A one minute speech may be allowed for each nomination from the floor of the House. 5. Any resolution presented by a delegate to the House of Delegates not approved by an appropriate MNA structural unit or the Committee on Resolutions must receive a majority vote by the House to reach the floor and a three-fourths vote to be adopted. 6. Emergency resolutions may be submitted to the MNA Committee on Resolutions at Convention by 4:30 p.m. on October 17, Resolutions should be given to a MNA staff member at registration. These must be signed by an official representative of the group submitting the resolution. If the Committee is in doubt about the emergency nature or advisability of the resolution submitted in the prescribed manner, the resolution is referred to the MNA President, who may refer it to the Board of Directors for a final decision. 7. The delegates shall act initially on the resolves and then on the enabling clauses of any resolution being presented to the House. 8. To obtain the floor, a delegate shall approach a floor microphone and address the chair, Madam President. Upon recognition by the chair, the delegate shall give name and district, and may speak. 9. All main motions and amendments shall be in writing on the official motion form, signed by the maker and the seconder, and shall be sent directly to the Monitor for immediate processing and forwarding to the Chair as soon as the speaker is recognized. 10. No delegate shall speak more than twice to the same questions on the same day. The second opportunity may be granted only after every other delegate desiring the floor has spoken. 11. Debate shall be limited to three minutes per person. Extension of time may be granted by a majority vote of the House. 41

Any member of MNA who is not a delegate may be granted the privilege of the floor, but shall speak only once to a question and only after all delegates wishing to speak have had the opportunity to speak. When giving name and district, such member shall indicate that he or she is not a delegate. 13. Business interrupted by an adjournment of the meeting of the House of Delegates shall be resumed at the next meeting of the House of Delegates at the point where it was interrupted. 14. To minimize disruption of the work of the House of Delegates and all related meetings, all electronic devices shall be set to vibrate. 15. These Convention Rules shall be amended or suspended by a two-thirds vote of the House. 42

Debbie has been a faculty member at the Robert E. Smith School of Nursing at Delta State University (DSU) for 22 years where she has been active on DSU s faculty senate, Student Success Task Force, First Year Seminar and various other committees. She also serves as DSU s Student Nurses Faculty Advisor. Prior to DSU, Debbie was Director of Nursing at King s Daughters Hospital and worked at Delta Regional Medical Center as Nursing Administrative Supervisor. Debbie is also a faculty member at Hurst Review Services, Inc. Debbie is the current President of MNA and has served as MNA Vice-President, past President of her District and chair of MNA nominations committee as well as various other MNA and MNF committees throughout her career. She is a past Board member on the Mississippi Board of Nursing and a past Mississippi Association of Student Nurses Advisor. In addition, she is President of Sigma Theta Tau International, Pi Xi Chapter. Debbie was awarded the Nightingale Nursing Faculty of the Year, H.E.A.D.W.A.E. Faculty of the Year for DSU and DSU s Kossmans Teacher of the Year. She has been a speaker at various events and ceremonies. Statement of Intent: As a member of the Mississippi Nurses Association (MNA) for 27 years, I have served as President, Vice-President, Chair of the MNA Nominations Committee, member of the Health Affairs Committee, District 21 President, and as a delegate for MNA and ANA. I have had the honor of serving on several committees for the Mississippi Nurses Foundation (MNF) including the Nightingale and Car Tag Stipend Scholarship Committees. I have also served as the MNA/MASN Faculty Advisor. My past and current involvement allows me to guide this organization and understand the importance of membership, policy, positions and programs as we continue development of our vital organization. If reelected President, I will strive to improve communication between members, the Board, the districts, and our nursing students throughout the state in an effort to be the voice for Mississippi Nurses and to bring in new members. She is employed at Hattiesburg Clinic as the Director of Clinical Education and currently serves as Secretary on the MNA Board of Directors since Previously Sandi served as MNA Director of the Council on Nursing Practice from 2011 through During her nursing career of 33 years, Sandi has been employed at Rush Hospital in Meridian, MS; St. David s Community Hospital in Austin, Texas; and at Hattiesburg Clinic in Hattiesburg, MS. She has served as a staff nurse, nurse manager, satellite director, and in her current position as director of clinical education. She started her nursing career with an AON from Meridian Community College and then received a BSN and later an MSN in education from William Carey University. Sandi s professional affiliations include MNA, Sigma Theta Tau - Upsilon Theta Chapter, National League for Nursing, Medical Group Management Association, the Nurse Advisory Council for William Carey University and Pearl River Community College and the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI). In addition, she serves as vice president of a local Breast Cancer Awareness Team (BCAT). Statement of Intent: Serving as an officer on the MNA Board of Directors has become an important part of my nursing career, and through MNA, I have been granted the opportunity to serve the nurses of our state. I feel I have a thorough understanding of how each position on the MNA Board plays an integral role in the successful accomplishments of our organization. Dr. Mangum taught nursing for 17 years at UMMC and worked at Mississippi State Hospital before that. He has three daughters-in-law that are Registered Nurses, two here in Mississippi. 51 POSITION OF DIRECTOR, COUNCIL ON NURSING EDUCATION Candidates who have qualified for this position: Amber Arnold, DNP, RN Biographical Profile: Dr. Amber Arnold is a registered nurse with clinical expertise in pediatrics and critical care and currently works for the Chief Medical Officer of University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). After 10 years in the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children with varying roles from staff nurse to Clinical Director, she followed her passion for improving patient care on a system-wide level. After training at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement s Patient Safety Executive Development Program, she assumed the role of Patient Safety Officer for 6 years to facilitate change in unsafe behaviors affecting the culture of safety. Since then, Dr. Arnold has worked in a part-time role focusing on clinical projects for the Chief Medical Officer. Through her experience and education, Dr. Arnold has developed strengths in team and relationship building. She has had the opportunity to participate in a variety of training courses related to patient safety science and team training allowing for a broad resource base. Dr. Arnold continues to build a strong contact network through memberships in the Mississippi Nurses Association, UMMC School of Nursing Alumni Board, and University of Mississippi Medical Center Alliance. Dr. Arnold obtained a Master of Science in Nursing from UMMC in 2009 and graduated from the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program in She is a certified critical care nurse alumnus and a TeamSTEPPS Master Trainer. Statement of Intent: I have served as the Director for the Council on Organizational Affairs for the past four years, working closely with the Council on Education to ensure that each annual convention is a success. I also previously served on the Nightingale Committee for a number of years working to support MNA and MNF with the Nightingale Gala co-hosted by these organizations. If elected as Director of the Council on Education, it is my goal to continue to expand MNA s continuing education offerings ensuring that the needs of registered nurses and advanced practice nurses are met. I pledge to use my team and relationship building skills to build collaborative relationships with premiere presenters throughout Mississippi and the nation. I understand the importance of staying abreast of evidence-based practice, contemporary nursing topics, and technological advancements to ensure that each and every continuing education session and event meets the expectations of the attendees. As an active member, she has served MNA in a number of capacities to include: member at large, district seven executive board member, and council member on the nursing research committee. Further, Dr. Luckett strives to embrace in clinical practice and nursing education the MNA core values of advocacy, education, research, and partnership. Dr. Luckett has been a recipient of a number of awards, and recognition throughout her tenure in nursing and nursing education. Her illustrious nursing career has mixed clinical practice, education, and administration. Dr. Luckett s breadth of knowledge in clinical practice and nursing education through teaching across all levels of nursing education provides a unique mixture of experience suited for the position of director of the council on nursing education. Statement of Intent: I would consider it an honor to serve as director, council on nursing education. As a nurse, and nurse educator, I bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position that would be invaluable to MNA. I have taught in a variety of nursing education programs from licensed practical nursing through doctoral. These experiences have well-equipped me and provided me with an understanding of the social, scientific, and educational changes of today and tomorrow. Further, I have served MNA in a number of capacities to include: member at large, district seven executive board member, and council on nursing research. I would like to move to the next step of my service to MNA through the position, Director, Council on Nursing Education. My goal for MNA and nursing is for unity among nurses, and that we will all embrace the MNA core values of advocacy, education, research, and partnership. My initial participation was as a district member. I then served as Vice-President of District VII before joining the Provider Unit. As a member of the Provider Unit, I served as Chair and Co-Chair as the position warranted. I was appointed to the Board of Directors in 2012 to complete a term of a resigning member. In the time since I became the Director for Council on Education, MNA has increased its educational offerings to nurses around the state from two per year, to an average of two per month. I wish to continue to serve the nurses of MS in the capacity of Director, Council on Organizational Affairs. I plan to bring the same drive and initiative to my activity in this position as I have in my other opportunities to serve. Statement of Intent: If elected as Director, Council on Organizational Affairs, I intend to serve the nurses of MS as best I can. 68 MNF Staff Rosalyn Howard, Executive Director Rosalyn Howard is the Chief Executive Officer of the foundation. She is responsible for securing funds in all areas of development to include MNFs annual fund, special events, planned giving and major donor activities. She implements policies and procedures approved by the board of trustees. She manages the foundation and hires staff to support the work of MNF. Rosalyn conducts presentations on behalf of the foundation to award nursing scholarships and to promote the professional image of nursing. Kasey Dorr, MNF Executive Assistant Kasey Dorr assists the executive director in daily executive functions. She is responsible for monthly bank drafts, following up with donors, receiving and depositing MNF donations, editing the foundation s newsletter, and sending mail-outs from MNF. She serves as the lead contact person for the Nightingale Awards. Kasey supports the Accreditation Administrator with MNF Continuing Education applications and MNFs Board of Trustees when needed. LaGina Walker, Development Officer lwalker@msnurses.org LaGina Walker provides support with event planning and fundraising for the Foundation. She is responsible for communication with donors and supporters of MNF in securing funds that support the organization s mission. She provides communication to the Executive Director regarding potential donors, she also manages donor relations and outreach with nursing students. She communicates and teaches the continuing education process to nurses and healthcare organizations. 72 MNA Staff Teresa Malone, Executive Director Teresa Malone is the chief executive officer of the association. She is the liaison with the MNA Board and is responsible for carrying out the goals and objectives of the association, for management of the organization and for representing the association with other organizations, public officials, the media, and the public. She is responsible for hiring and managing a staff to carry out the work of the association. Executive Assistant The Executive Assistant is the assistant to the Executive Director, he/she monitors legislative issues that pertain to health affairs and circulates legislative updates and political mail-outs, he/she also prepares for Board meetings, special events, and assists with other executive functions. The Executive Assistant assists with the management of the office information systems, and is responsible for disseminating new membership packets, membership renewals, and continuing education activities. Dana Walker, Director of Events and Marketing dwalker@msnurses.org Dana is responsible for planning and organizing special events and continuing education activities. She is the point of contact for questions regarding program and workshop schedules, CE contact hours, event registration or to become a speaker for continuing education programs. She is also responsible for coordinating news releases and media relations. Dana supports the activities of the Council on Nursing Education, the MNA Provider Unit, the Council on Organizational Affairs, and the Council on Nursing Practice. Deborah Norman, Finance Administrator / Membership Coordinator dnorman@msnurses.org Deborah is responsible for all financial transactions including payment for membership dues, special events, and continuing education activities. She is also the Membership Coordinator and is the point of contact for any membership questions, changes, renewals, updates, etc. Deborah also supports the District Presidents with current membership information for each district. Dionne Inman, Advanced Practice Coordinator / Publishing Coordinator dinman@msnurses.org Dionne is responsible for working with the Director of the Council on Advanced Practice Nursing to support activities relating to Nurse Practitioners. Dionne is editor of the quarterly newspaper The Mississippi RN and creates the E-newsletter Members Only.
