1 2017 Annual MAPFSE Conference Biloxi, Mississippi
2 Wow! We have some exciting things happening at the 2017 conference. Check out the rest of this newsletter for all the details. Some highlights include: a side-by-side sprinkler demonstration, Molly the Fire Safety dog, and presentations from other educators in neighboring states. There will be a member showcase giving volunteers from the audience 15 minutes to share their story. The presentation doesn t have to be anything fancy, just you sharing details of your successful program(s). The conference will be followed by a FREE one-day summit. The summit will be presented twice once Friday and again Saturday. I encourage you to attend the conference and stay for the Friday summit. If your work schedule prevents you from attending during the week, Saturday is for you. We tried to adjust the summit schedule to allow time to drive in that morning and back home that evening to avoid hotel costs and lunch is provided. Are you worried your budget will not support the conference? Apply for the Carter Hill Scholarship that will pay up to $500 for one member to attend the conference. You will find an application below. Applications must be received no later than February 20, Please help spread the word far and wide. Don t just invite other fire departments; think of other partners from outside the fire service. This is a great opportunity to spread our fire and life safety efforts across the state to a much wider audience. Preregistration is greatly encouraged and must be received no later than March 5, I am so excited and can t wait to see everyone in Biloxi in April!!! As always, please remember to bring silent auction items and door prizes. Contact April Cuevas at or april.cuevas@mid.ms.gov, Paige Bailey at or paige.bailey@mid.ms.gov, or Tammy Peavy at or tammy.peavy@mid.ms.gov for more information. We are also looking for a host site for the 2018 conference. If you would like to host the conference, please bring a proposal to the 2017 conference. The proposal should include costs and information for the meeting space, hotels, meals, etc. Please contact me if you have any questions. We are still looking for new members and fundraising ideas. Each of us needs to work diligently to build the association up to our peers and counterparts. Sincerely, Tammy L. Peavy President
