1 E S R D N e t w o r k o f T e x a s, I n c. Welcome to Dallas! A message from Glenda Harbert, RN, CNN, CPHQ Executive Director, Network #14 The theme of this year s meeting, Blueprint for Success, builds on themes of the national healthcare environment while specifically incorporating topics relative to the ESRD program, nationally and locally. CMS has directed the Networks to work directly with patients and providers in many important elements of caring for people with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). These include improving clinical outcomes, promoting patient choice, improving the experience of care, and decreasing healthcare-acquired infections (HAIs). Practical take home strategies on topics such as bedbugs (who would have thought?), NHSN, pandemic flu, patient engagement, and difficult relationships are addressed. Please sit back, relax, and enjoy a break from the clinic while you gain some new perspectives and approaches. And know that the Network appreciates all that you do every day for persons with CKD. Mission The ESRD Network of Texas, Inc. supports equitable patient- and familycentered quality dialysis and kidney transplant health care through patient services, education, quality improvement, and information management. 1

3 E S R D N e t w o r k o f T e x a s, I n c. Frequently Asked Questions about the Nephrology Today & Tomorrow event Can the meeting be held in a different area of Texas? Hosting a meeting this large requires a lot of meeting supplies and staffing. In order to keep registration fees at a minimum, the meeting is held in the Dallas area so that Network staff can transport materials to and from the venue, as well as staff the registration desks and A/V areas and moderate the sessions. Holding the meeting in Dallas also reduces the Network staff s travel and lodging expenses. Why are the session rooms so hot/cold? The Network staff and hotel representatives work hard to keep all areas of the conference space as comfortable as possible for all attendees and staff. However, due to the large number of attendees, the different choices of dress (men s business suits vs. ladies sun dresses), the different age groups, different body types, and the complexity of the heating and air system, it is very difficult to make the conference space comfortable for everyone. We highly recommend attendees dress in layers and bring a sweater or light jacket. Why isn t there a better selection of food and beverage? Meeting venues provide menus for the hosting organization from which to choose. These menus have to be chosen several months in advance so the hotel purchasing agent has time to order all the supplies needed. When choosing food and beverage for this event, Network #14 tries to choose items that limit costs and that are tasty and delicious. How do I obtain my CEUs/CMEs, and why is there a deadline? Continuing education for multiple disciplines will be provided for this event. There is a detailed flyer in your packet that provides instructions on how to obtain your credits. You will have 3 weeks from the date of the conference (November 15) to access the online resource. Network #14 has no control over the deadline; it has been set by the CEU/CME provider. This year s providers are the Texas Department of State and Health Services (DSHS) and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND). Have a question you don t see listed? Network #14 staff members are available to assist you! Some are stationed at the registration tables, while some are floating throughout the conference sessions. All Network #14 staff are wearing GREEN ribbons that read STAFF and can assist you. For a subject-specific resource, please see the staff directory on the next page. Staff Directory 3
