3 Dorothy Impey Home Dorothy Impey Home is a community-based not-for-profit aged care facility. Located in Pascoe Vale, the state of the art, purpose built 92 bed facility has provided care to the elderly citizens of the Moreland Community for over 45 years. The facility provides an "ageing in place" which means that there is no need for residents to ever have to move again as the care is adjusted to their needs. There are 3 Floors for different needs; (s to work with all three floors) Ground floor Dementia 1st Floor Low Care Needs 2nd Floor High Care Needs The main issues that the residents deal with include New Residents transitioning into the facility Handling depression Grief / loss of a partner The placement will include one to one counselling with residents. 4 St. Vincent s Hospital Optimal Health Program A placement opportunity is now available for 1-2 counselling students at St. Vincent s Hospital commencing week beginning 2017 As part of a collaborative research project with The Australian Catholic University and The University of Melbourne, the placement will involve delivering the Optimal Health Program to individuals with chronic illness. The Optimal Health Program (OHP) is an 8 session self-management program that builds on individual strengths and promotes self-efficacy and hope. The sessions are with one of three patient groups individuals with stroke and their carers, individuals with diabetes, and individuals with chronic kidney disease. In addition, there will be other opportunities for delivering OHP e.g., for people living with polio and facilitating OHP to groups. 5 Griefline Community Services IMPORTANT: This is a Term 3, 2017 placement but the successful applicant will volunteer in Term 2, 2017 whilst they are completing their training Griefline, located in Moorabbin, are inviting applications from counselling students for a Term 3, 2017 placement. The successful applicant will commence initially as a volunteer in April 2017 and then start a formal placement from August mid May week Loss & Grief Education Course held in Moorabbin (compulsory from April to July 2017) Mentoring and supervision to conduct trauma support phone calls in collaboration with Victorian Police. 6 Chelsea Community Support Services One clinical placement is available at Chelsea Community Support Services, commencing mid-may 2017 Located at 1A Chelsea Rd, Chelsea Vic 3196 Chelsea Community Support Services Inc. (ChelCSS) is a not for profit incorporated association that was established to provide emergency relief and social support services to the residents of Chelsea and surrounding suburbs. ChelCSS support students by providing counselling placements, offering an individual counselling service for low income earners within the community. The successful student will initially begin observing counselling sessions before taking on one to one counselling independently. The student will also assist with material aid and emergency relief supports. 7 Bethany Community Support Bethany is a vibrant community service organisation based in Geelong and Warrnambool that provides a broad range of prevention, intervention, support and educational services to children, young people, families and individuals. The two placements on offer are within the Family & Relationship Counselling (FaRS) Program at Bethany in Geelong. The FaRS Program provides integrated, early intervention relationship services and parenting support for families and children, particularly those who are vulnerable, disadvantaged or in disadvantaged communities, to improve family functioning, safety and child wellbeing/development. The program aims to help people with relationship difficulties better manage the personal or interpersonal issues to do with children and family via counselling, information and referral, education and skills training. 8 Eating Disorders Victoria s undertaking a placement at Eating Disorders Victoria will work onsite one day per week in our Support Groups program. Potential tasks include debriefing and mentoring volunteer facilitators, liaising with other mental health organisations, undertaking roster management, designing and implementing quality improvement processes, and collating and analysing program data. The student will regularly facilitate groups for adults seeking to recover from an eating disorder and for family members of someone with an eating disorder in a number of Melbourne metro locations. EDV Support Groups run in the evening and are always led by two facilitators. 9 Hillsong Hillsong, (West Footscray and Bayswater,) are now seeking Graduate Diploma of Counselling and Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy students for year-long counselling placements. Hillsong is a church-based, not for profit organisation that exists to serve communities by offering pathways to equip those who want to take their next steps in life. The successful applicants will experience a broad range of one to one counselling and support work with adults. Client issues are complex and range from trauma, depression, homelessness, sexual abuse, unemployment, family issues and general counselling. 11 Salvation Army Bridge Program, Tasmania The Salvation Army s Bridge Program is a specialised therapeutic service which provides for the recovery needs of people with gambling, alcohol or other drug addictions The Bridge Program model of recovery is a purposeful, whole of life, person-centred, coordinated care approach, that combines a number of key elements into an integrated, high quality, evidence informed recovery program. A placement opportunity is now available for 1 student to co-facilitate the 9-week AOD rehabilitation program and conduct 1-1 counselling with residents. Completion of the Alcohol and Other Drugs and the Group Work units is essential and related experience an advantage. 12 Russia Ethnic Representative Council A placement opportunity is now available for one counselling student and the agency has a strong preference for a Russian speaker. The Russian Ethnic Representative Council is a non-profit organization, which promotes welfare, cultural interests, and provides support for the diverse Russian community in Victoria. The placement involves one on one counselling unemployed clients, isolated, frail elderly clients, and counselling clients with disabilities. The placement may also involve the facilitation of support groups for longterm unemployed. 13 Carers Victoria Carers Victoria are currently seeking applications from mature age Master of Counselling and Graduate Diploma of Counselling students. Bachelor of Counselling students with prior relevant experience are also encouraged to apply. The placement primarily involves group counselling programs. There may also be opportunities for one to one counselling (including telephone counselling) depending on a) how well you progress and b) the confidence your Carers Victoria supervisor has in your counselling skill development. Other tasks may include intake and assessment. 17 Centre for Emotion Focused Practice The Centre for Emotion Focused Practice is an established private practice in South Yarra that offers counselling and psychotherapy services from a broadly humanistic framework. The Centre has experienced psychologists working from the Centre as well as a range of practitioners who operate from the Centre on a room hire basis. The environment at the Centre is one where practitioners operate with a level of independence, managing their own caseloads and supervision requirements but within a supportive environment. In this placement you would take on a small to medium caseload of clients and assist with the management of a private practice. This placement would suit students wanting to familiarize themselves with the private practice environment who are interested in developing their practice and understanding of humanistic models of counselling and therapy. The student would most likely have a mix of clinical, admin and research work. The clinical supervisor would be Mr Barry Strmelj and overall manager of the placement would be the practice manager, Ms Nilou Moghaddam. Barry works on Wednesdays and Thursdays and Nilou is in the office from Monday to Thursday, so it would be expected that the placement occur when one of these staff are present. Small group supervision (weekly) is provided, briefing and debriefing (daily) and individual supervision can be provided by negotiation. s will be offered at either Brentwood Secondary College or schools in the TYA program. These placement offers placement students a diverse experience. Additional information: A structured placement with a wide range of opportunities..s journal at least twice a week, complete case notes and must be able to work in teams. Brentwood, have eight key teams within our placement program that play an integral role in supporting the school community. Each of these teams are made up of tertiary placement students, guided by a Wellbeing staff member. Each of the teams provide opportunity for development of counselling practice. Intake: The primary role of Intake workers is to assess and organise students who want to access wellbeing support. Intake workers are responsible for initial assessment of students, crisis management, record keeping and other general office duties. Intake workers need to be effective communicators and be capable of implementing strong boundaries with students. Transition Management: The primary role of Transition Managers is to manage the Transition room and support young people with their transition back into learning and the college community. Transition Managers work closely with the Outreach Team, Intake Workers and Sub Mangers to identify and address the individual needs of students that are accessing the Transition room. Engagement and Outreach*: The Primary role of the outreach team is to reconnect students who have disengaged with school and/or learning. Outreach team members conduct home visits and often work closely student s families. Outreach work collaboratively with Managers, Parent Support, Transition Managers and Intake to develop and implement case management plans for students. 18

19 Support: The Support Team provide regular and consistent level of counselling and support to students at the college. The Support team supports all elements of the Wellbeing programs in the College. Support team members are allocated a caseload of approx. 4-8 students and are responsible for checking in with their caseload on a regular basis. EAL Team: The EAL team works with student who are enrolled with English as an Alternate Language. The EAL team support students both in and outside of the classroom with the stress of translation, academic workload and social and language challenges. Social Work: The Social Work team consists of student that are completing their social work degree. The Social Work team design and implement programs, case management plans, referrals and provide general support to the Brentwood community. Resilience Workers: The primary role of Resilience Workers is to build the emotional and intellectual capacity of students in the classroom. They aim to support students to build resilience in their learning and relationships. Resilience workers conduct assessments and implement strategies for regulation (decision making, impulse control) and self-reflection. Resilience workers also provide counselling and implement therapeutic strategies and practices such as mindfulness, strength based approaches in the classroom. Parent Support: The primary role of Parent Support Workers is to work therapeutically with a designated case load of parents. 20 Compulsory School Retreats: A placement with Brentwood Secondary College or Thriving Youth Australia also includes the compulsory attendance at 2 retreat events - one reflective and the other pyscho-educational. These events are usually held during each school holiday in September, January, Easter and June. Added to this there is also an end of year celebration event. Therefore placements students undertaking this placement will need to commit to attending the 2 retreats and the end of year experience. It will be important to students to speak with their placement supervisor BEFORE making any plans during the holiday periods to make sure they attend these days. The next retreat is to be held in June. 21 Manor Lakes Manor Lakes P:12 College is currently seeking 1 motivated, pro-active male team player who is keen to complete a placement in a school setting of our 1800 plus students. The College is committed to inclusive education and they strive to provide specific programs and opportunities for students with a range of educational needs. Opportunities are varied but the placement includes one to one counselling work and group facilitation with students. The successful applicant may also work on social skills with an ASD student, implement anger management skills, and general counselling to our school community. 22 McClelland Secondary College McClelland Secondary College is a secondary school located in Frankston. McClelland College s programs are designed to encourage the highest standards of achievement in everything students undertake. School objectives are to provide each student with the essential skills required for lifelong learning, and the breadth of outlook they will need to be successful in an evolving global community. Values of respect, tolerance and hard work are highly regarded and rewarded. ACAP Counselling students on placement will experience a broad range of counselling and support work with teens and some over 18 s. This is a demanding and confronting placement and not for everyone. issues range from truancy through to violence, self-harm and suicidal ideation. This secondary college has a great need for counselling services for their students. ACAP students work in teams with students from Monash and RMIT including Psychology, Medical, and Master of Counselling students.
