1 NAME: CLASSIFICATION TITLE: Counseling Psychologist II (will change) WORKING TITLE: Licensed Psychotherapist, Case Manager TITLE CODE: UNIT: Student Success DEPT: CAPS SUMMARY STATEMENT Under the direction of the Case Manager Supervisor, the Case Manager provides mental health care and case management coordination and support, in collaboration with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) staff psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors, and UCSC Student Health Center providers. The Case Manager provides services designed to assist students in optimizing their educational experience and minimizing the impact of illness, injury and emotional distress on their academic careers by coordinating mental health care through a network of campus and community resources. The Case Manager provides services to other campus departments as necessary, coordinating CAPS services with the Student Health Center providers, Residential Life, and the Colleges. This person will work with a variety of UCSC Student Success departments that serve students, as well as provide consultation services for faculty and staff in dealing with distressed students. In discharging these duties the Case Manager is expected to be keenly sensitive to issues of gender, culture, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disabilities, etc. and to be skilled with techniques for counseling students with diverse backgrounds. All the Licensed Psychotherapist's activities are performed within the limits of the standards and ethical principles of their professional organization, as well as applicable legal mandates for mental health professionals in the State of California. STATEMENT OF DUTIES CASE MANAGEMENT 70% Serves as a liaison between the student, hospital, treatment programs, campus and community resources. Develops and aids in the use of community resources. Maintains current knowledge of University health Services, campus, and community resources. Professionally responsible for the soundness and validity of recommendations, services, and referrals, but is expected to seek advice from senior specialists on unusual or uniquely complex client responses or on problems outside of their area of expertise.

2 Monitors client/patient progress with recommended treatment plans and assures effective coordination of care between providers at CAPS, Student Health Center, hospitals and other treatment providers. Provides case management to a full range of students, provides follow-up for crisis intervention to a full range of cases, including students who contact the after-hours crisis program. *** CONSULTATION AND OUTREACH 15% Provides consultation to other departments, staff, administrators, and faculty to enhance the social, personal, and academic functioning of students with severe psychological difficulties. Functions as a resource and may provide educational and consultative services to lay groups and organizations. May participate in on-campus community groups and consortiums to improve efforts for integrated behavioral health care. *** COUNSELING AND CLINICAL 15% Provides brief counseling and psychotherapy with undergraduate and graduate students (individuals, couples, and groups) with a broad range of mental health needs, functional and socioeconomic limitations. Provides crisis assessment and crisis intervention. Performs behavioral interventions, motivational interviewing, brief psychotherapy and case management on a full range of cases including high-risk concerns. All licensed staff will provide coordination and consultation for the After Hours Crisis Service as scheduled. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: REQUIRED Expertise in clinical case management in an integrated behavioral health setting. Strong knowledge and experience with providing psychological diagnoses, brief interventions, and case management services to university students. Able to rapidly provide these services while working in a fast-paced environment where task-shifting is required.

3 Demonstrated multicultural competence in mental health service provision. Knowledge of how race, ethnic identity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, privilege and multiculturalism relate to psychological service delivery in a university setting Broad skills and competencies associated with providing multi-cultural counseling services and experience with communities underserved in mental health care Experience providing service to a young adult population Strong familiarity with a wide range of psychological interventions including harm reduction, assessment, crisis intervention and crisis management. Demonstrated ability to conduct brief psychotherapy and present recommendations and course of treatment Demonstrated ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team of mental health and health providers Demonstrated skills and experience in developing liaison relationships and consulting with diverse faculty, staff, public and private mental health providers and students regarding student mental health issues Demonstrated skills and ability to work with a diverse population, particularly when students are in varying states of emotional distress Highly effective interpersonal written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner Flexibility and willingness to accommodate client needs and colleague requests for support. Comfortable with a varied clinical schedule. Thorough knowledge of applicable laws and standards of professional conduct. Experience in the use of electronic medical records systems; Must be computer literate. PREFERRED Experience as a case manager in a behavioral health care setting (i.e. Behavioral Health Unit, Day Treatment Program, Outpatient Mental Health Center) Experience providing behavioral health interventions in an interdisciplinary team setting.

4 Demonstrated ability to work with required computerized clinical record keeping systems Counseling experience in a college/university setting Demonstrated knowledge of a university environment and of the developmental issues and difficulties typically encountered by college students. SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Valid California licensure, in good standing, in Psychology, Social Work, or Marriage and Family Therapy OR Valid out-of state licensure, in good standing, in Psychology* *Out of State licensed psychologists are required to acquire California licensure within 180 days from either submitting the application or beginning California residency, whichever occurs first. Job will require occasional working of non-traditional hours. Prior to Formal Offer, will be required to successfully complete a pre-hire criminal history background check and a pre-hire credentialing check prior to formal offer. Upon hire, selected candidate will be required to: Complete HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accessibility) training within 30 days of hire. Complete Title IX (Sexual Harassment) training every two years. Comply with current Student Health Center employee health safety requirements for health care workers as defined by state and federal regulatory agencies; Current health safety requirements to be discussed during interview. Per the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA), this position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter. The selected candidate will be required to report known or suspected child abuse or neglect as defined by CANRA and will be required to sign a Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse prior to commencing employment.
