With more than 270 staff and volunteers, the Centre provides a diverse range of health and community services, including residential aged care for Sunbury and surrounding communities. The Centre receives funding from a range of sources including Commonwealth and State governments. Sunbury Community Health operates with a multidisciplinary team structure and staff are required to incorporate activities relating to health promotion, community consultation, early identification and intervention and individual and community capacity building within their role. Staff are expected to participate as a member of SCH team and provide services within a social model of health that recognises the effect of social, economic, cultural and political factors and conditions on health and wellbeing. SCH is committed to improving the health of our community and being accessible to all, including people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, those from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background, people with special needs and other socially disadvantaged groups. 2 Position reports to Manager Counselling Unit Reportable positions NIL Internal relationships Counselling Unit, Intake Worker External relationships Broadmeadows court Corrections NTV MFVP The position delivers specific family violence assessment, counselling, group programs and support to men who have used violent or controlling behaviours towards family members. The purpose of the program is to increase the safety of women and children by holding men accountable, and encouraging men to take responsibility for their own behaviour. Position Summary This role encompasses Collaborative organisation, group work planning and de-briefing with group co-facilitator EITHER the provision of the partner-contact role for partners of participants in the Men s Behaviour Change Group OR close collaboration with the SCH Partner Contact Worker Supervision is provided by the Counselling Unit Manager Qualifications A Bachelor degree in Social Work or similar tertiary qualification. Eligibility for membership of a relevant professional body. EITHER No To Violence (NTV) Graduate Certificate Social Science (Male Family Violence) OR willingness to undertake this qualification or willingness to be supervised by MBC Facilitator with this qualification. 3 COMPETENCIES REQUIRED Client Service Orientation Embrace diversity and actively promote respect for all clients, staff and stakeholders Professional presentation, punctuality and reliability Men s Behaviour Change Group Delivery Skilled interviewing and assessment and counselling of men who are perpetrators of family violence Good understanding of the issues of family violence, and how to address them to promote safety for women and children, in the context of a men s groupwork program Good understanding of issues for men who are perpetrators of family violence Skills in groupwork facilitation, specifically family violence groupwork. Knowledge, skills and prior experience providing family violence services or related services to men (including facilitation of Men s Behaviour Change Programs and counselling) Knowledge, skills and prior experience in provision of family violence services to women and children, or willingness to participate in training, mentoring and supervision to enhance this knowledge. An understanding of the social and gendered context of family violence and the impact of violence on women and children. An understanding of appropriate service responses for culturally and linguistically diverse communities and indigenous clients and for diverse client groups including same sex attracted men and men with a disability. An understanding of relevant risk and needs assessment frameworks. Excellent verbal and written communication skills Self-Management Demonstrated confidence and personal resilience and ability to manage challenging situations Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and as part of a team Regularly seeks and uses feedback to identify areas for learning and improvement Collaborative teamwork Ability to work closely with the groupwork co-facilitator in all aspects of preparation and delivery of the group. Ability to collaboratively plan groupwork session, and to learn and reflect on client issues with co-facilitator. Collaborate effectively with supervisor and staff within SCH to achieve team and organisational objectives. System and Process Development Critical thinking and analysis skills Promote best practice in service delivery by contributing to the development of service policies and systems DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Facilitation of a Men s Behaviour Change group, to men who have been violent in intimate relationships Perform this facilitation role within the philosophy and values of Family Violence and NTV minimum standards Provide assessments, referrals, counselling and support services to referred men in a MBC group work program. Identify and respond to safety risks for women (ex) partners relevant family members and children following established protocols, and to liaise with relevant women s and children s service providers as required. Identify and act upon safety risks for men, following established protocols and duty of care Work together with other Community Health staff to provide a comprehensive approach to addressing family violence Ensure role complies with relevant acts including Privacy Act, Health Records Act, Children Youth & Family Act, Family Violence Act, Confidentiality and State-wide Family Violence guidelines Maintain contemporary knowledge of relevant government policy at both state and federal levels in relation to family violence Ensure safety is a priority by confirming all clients have undertaken risk assessment and appropriate Page 3 of 5

4 strategies are implemented to manage risk. Refer or report serious or complex issues to the supervisor Liaise with relevant external agencies and professionals and promote SCH MBCP to external stakeholders eg. Referral agencies Maintain accurate and timely client records, statistical data, program documentation and statutory reports as required Participate in relevant SCH professional development activities, regular supervision, support and debriefing where required, performance planning and reviews in line with SCH procedures.
