2 2013 ACHNE/APHN JOINT MEETING 1 MESSAGE FROM ACHNE AND APHN PLANNING COMMITTEE PROGRAM CO-CHAIRS On behalf of the Program Planning Commiee, it is our pleasure to welcome you to the 2013 Associaon of Community Health Nursing Educators and Associaon of Public Health Nurses Joint Meeng, Evidence-based Populaon Nursing: General and Advanced Pracce. This year we have an excing program offering you a wealth of opportunies for professional renewal and personal enjoyment. Join us for outstanding presentaons, inspiring speakers, informaon workshops and opportunies for networking and dialogue. Be sure to come early for the pre-conference workshop, presented by the ACHNE Research Commiee in partnership with APHN which focuses on ACHNE research and APHN efforts related to evidence-based pracce, preparedness, and public health nursing workforce development. Our key note speaker is Dr. Shawn Kneipp, Associate Professor, University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill, a naonal expert in community parcipatory research whose studies are re-focusing the public health nursing role. The Plenary Session connues our focus on evidence, with Dr. Mar Engelke, Eastern Carolina University, leading a presentaon addressing challenges and opportunies to the use of evidence within professional public health nursing pracce. New this year, is a closing plenary session that highlights key instute themes and future direcons. The many podium presentaons and posters cover a wide variety of community/public health nursing educaon and experience from the theorecal to the praccal, from the local to the global, and from novice to expert. Throughout the meeng, be sure to expand your horizons by aending presentaons and engaging poster presenters who have perspecves and approaches that are new to you. Take advantage of the many other opportunies for dialogue including breaks, breakfasts, and Friday s lunch. And if that is not enough, join us Friday evening for museum tours and Raleigh s First Friday Gallery Walk. Visit the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, stroll down Raleigh s downtown and view the various works of art, and then have dinner with a few friends at one the many restaurants in the area. Buses will depart from the hotel at 5:45PM & 6:30PM with returns at 9:00 PM and 9:45 PM. We hope you will be able to explore more of the sights and sounds of Raleigh while you are her.
