2 Target Audience/Conference Objectives The 12th Annual Fort Worth Critical Care Conference is an interprofessional activity. The conference is designed for physicians, advanced practice providers, dieticians, medical residents, nurses, pharmacists and respiratory therapists in the fields of critical care medicine, emergency medicine, general surgery, geriatrics, hospitalists, infectious disease, internal medicine, nephrology, palliative care medicine, pulmonology and trauma surgery. Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to: Mechanical Ventilation of the Morbidly Obese Discuss the interdependence between physicians, advance care providers, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists and other providers at the bedside to optimize care of the mechanically ventilated morbidly obese patient Improve patient care through an understanding of how the pathophysiologic changes of morbid obesity impact bedside care Develop therapeutic strategies that improve the outcomes of the morbidly obese Promote safety strategies for bedside care providers, including nursing and respiratory therapy, to avoid occupational injuries such as shoulder and back injuries Management of Acute Pulmonary Embolism (PE) Determine when to suspect acute PE and the diagnostic approach Recognize risk stratification in acute PE Review appropriate treatment approaches to acute PE The Evolution and Evidence of the CMS Sepsis Measure Discuss the historical background and evidence that led to the current CMS sepsis measure Fluid Management in the Critically Ill Patient Identify the key principles of optimal fluid resuscitation in the multidisciplinary ICU environment Improve patient care through collaborative, timely and individually tailored fluid replacement Recognize the impact that fluid management has on outcomes Palliative Care in the ICU Review of palliative care principles Review the unique palliative care challenges of the ICU environment Discuss the key recent palliative care-themed interventions Determine how to ascertain patient-family values and address them within a palliative care framework Determine how to respond to patient-family unmet needs as a multidisciplinary team Inpatient and Outpatient Resuscitation Orders Review the Texas Advance Directives Act Discuss outpatient and inpatient Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) Orders Assess various situations/ethical dilemmas a health care provider will encounter in regard to Advance Directives Lung Infections in Immunocompromised Host Define Neutropenia and its symptoms Review and identify characteristic X-ray findings in pulmonary infections Discuss differential diagnosis of various pulmonary infections Describe optimal treatment regimens State the importance of communication within the interprofessional treatment team for immunocompromised patients with pulmonary infections Acknowledgements We would like to gratefully acknowledge the THR Foundation Grant 365 Fund for their generous support of the conference.
