2 Make Your Mark for Canada s 150 th Come and paint a tile that will become part of a mosaic celebrating Canada s 150 th birthday. Adults, teens, school-aged children, and seniors are invited to join us for an hour-long painting session. You don t need to be a great painter an artist from the Canada 150 Mosaic project will guide you through the process. The project: 1. Up to 500 people who live in Coquitlam will each paint a 4 x 4 aluminum tile. 2. Each tile will be placed into a large mural grid which will magically transform the individual paintings into a unified mosaic that celebrates the past and present of industry in Coquitlam. 3. This process is being repeated by Canadians in 150 communities in every province and territory across the country, with participants creating murals illustrating Canada s cultural and geographical diversity. All 150 murals are united through the theme of the train and railways, which played an integral role in tying our nation s regions together. If the 150 community murals were ever connected, they would stretch over 365 meters wide (4 football fields) x 2.5 meters high (8 feet). Once assembled, Coquitlam s completed mural will be unveiled later in the fall and will remain on display as a historical legacy for the community. The library is hosting painting sessions on Friday, October 20 and Saturday, October 21. There are 10 time slots available. Sign up with your friends, family or neighbours for a session! Register online at or by phoning Read more about the Canada 150 Mosaic Mural project online and see the murals created by other Canadian communities at canada150mosaic.com Left: the mural painted by the community of Ganaoque, Ontario. 2
