1 Photos by Karl Weisel Start your holiday shopping early at the Fall Bazaar Kick-start your holiday shopping at s Fall Bazaar Oct in the Sports, Fitness and Outdoor Recreation Center. Shop for everything from furniture to handcrafted items and vie for the chance to win a host of giveaways, including a stay at the Edelweiss Lodge and Resort. The bazaar will be open from noon to 7 p.m. Oct. 27, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 28 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 29. All sales will be in U.S. dollars or by credit card only and are tax free. The center is located in Building 1631 on Clay Kaserne. Go shopping, haunting in October Register for Winter Sports Enroll now through Nov. 9 for Child and Youth Services Winter Sports basketball, cheerleading, dodgeball, wrestling and bowling. Winter season runs from January to March Volunteers and coaches are always welcome. Call civ (0611) if interested in coaching. Youths can register for Winter Sports at Parent Central Services on Clay Kaserne ( ). NAF Excess Property Sale Head to the Mainz-Kastel Storage Station, Building 4002, to shop for bargains at the Non Appropriated Funds Excess Property Sale on Oct. 14 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sale items include tables, bar stools, a sofa, love seat, universal remote control and more. Show Me the College Money Parents and students are invited to a Show Me the College Money Workshop on Oct. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Entertainment Center to help plan for college expenses, scholarships, school selection and other issues impacting future college students. Workshops will cover such topics as Picking the Right College For You, Comparing College Costs, the College Application, Free Application Federal Student Aid, Financial Aid, Hidden College Costs, Charting Your Course, Student Portfolios and more. Halloween Month at the Capp The Cappuccino Casino has a full schedule of special activities planned for October: Pool Tournaments Oct. 6 and 20 starting at 6 p.m.; DJ Stan s Old School and Taco Night Oct. 6 starting at 8 p.m.; Hot Latin Night with DJ Spike Oct. 20 starting at 8 p.m.; and Halloween Karaoke Night with DJ Spike Oct. 31 starting at 7 p.m. Scramble of the Year Make your own team for this 18-hole, four-person, scramble-format event at the Rheinblick Golf Course Oct. 7. Shotgun start is at 9 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for gross and net, based on participation. Ties for the low gross score will be decided by a sudden death playoff starting on Hole 18 and continuing to Hole 10 until a winner is determined. All other ties will be by scorecard playoff. Brake Service Class Learn how to identify the components of the brake system and to inspect the brake pads, rotors, lines, etc. during the Automotive Skills Center s Brake Service Class Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon. 6 Continued from page 1 Budgeting for Baby Learn about common expenses related to babies and children and how to plan for those expenses during a free Budgeting for Baby class on Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. at Army Community Service. Reserve a space in the class by calling civ (0611) London, the NFL and more Outdoor Recreation travels to London Oct for sightseeing and to watch the Cardinals play the Rams in a live NFL game. Outdoor Rec also hosts a Thanksgiving Ski Trip to Zermatt, Switzerland, Nov Call civ (0611) or 9801 or stop by the Sports, Fitness and Outdoor Recreation Center. Winter Inspection Checks The Automotive Skills Center staff will check and ensure your vehicle is winter ready from Oct. 1 through Nov. 30. The 12-point check includes: Brake Test, Park Brake Travel, Signal Horn, Lights, Cooling System Visual Check, Coolant Freeze Protection Level, Oil Level, Belts, Tires for Wear, Pressure and Type (M&S or Winter), Battery and Charging System Check, Washer Fluid Check and Wipers, Exhaust System Visual Check. Cost is $15. Call to make an appointment at civ (0611) Library Story Time Children up to age 6 are invited to the Library to enjoy a fun hour of stories, crafts and songs on Thursdays from a.m. Parents are also invited to tag along to pick up literacy tips and reading suggestions. American Girl Doll Social Girls ages 6 and above are invited to enjoy an American Girl Doll Social at the Library on Oct. 21 at 10 a.m. Bring your American Girl Dolls and participate in a story hour and discussion, create art, get tips on good manners and enjoy tea and cookies with volunteer Auntie Jessica. Halloween Bowling and Party The Entertainment Center features free bowling for children who bowl in costume on Oct. 28 from 8 p.m. to midnight; adults in costume enjoy half-price bowling and free shoe rental. The WEC Lounge (open to ages 18 and above) offers free finger foods from 8-11 p.m. on Oct. 28 and a best costume contest with cash prizes. Also enjoy spooky drinks, a beer bucket drink special and music courtesy of a Halloween DJ. Canvas and Corkscrews Create art in a relaxed atmosphere at the Entertainment Center on Oct. 13 from 6-8:30 p.m. This adults-only get-together is open to ID cardholders ages 21 and above. Cost is $45 including all painting supplies. Food and drink can be purchased at the facility. To reserve your space stop by the Arts and Crafts Center or call civ (0611) Recreational Shooting Sports, Fitness and the Outdoor Recreation Center hosts Recreational Shooting at the JMTC Wackernheim Range from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 7. Firearms are available for rent. Ranges include handgun plus 100-, 200- and 300-meter rifles. Cost is $8 per person for Hunting, Fishing and Sport Shooting members; $12 for non-members. Youths ages are free and additional family members over the age of 18 pay $5. Call civ (0611) /9801 for more information. Haunted House s Amelia Earhart Playhouse invites you for an evening of thrills and chills during their Halloween Haunted House Oct at the former Hainerberg Shopping Center. The Haunted House will be open from 6-10 p.m.: 6-7 p.m. for ages 5-12 and from 7-10 p.m. for ages 13 and above. This year s theme is Jack the Ripper.
