2 CALIFORNIA STATE COLLEGE AT SAN BERNARDINO October 13, 1957 The BULLETIN Two thefts were reported last week in the CSCSB park- :,0T ing lot. A stereo unit was removed from one caro Another car was broken into, via a window, and a tape recorder was stolen^ Herbert Brown, Director of Physical Plant, urged CSCSB personnel to keep their cars locked and leave nothing valuable in open view. The thefts are believed to be the work of outsiders Numerous car break-ins have been reported at Valley College recentlyc ADVISCRY BCARD Three prominent San Bernardino men have been re- MEMBERS REAPPCINTED appointed members of the CSCSB Advisory Board, the California State College Board of Trustees announced. They are Judge James E. Cunningham of the Superior Court;. Leslie I. Harris, president and general manager of the Harris Co.; and Earl Wilson, Executive secretary of the San Bernardino Central Labor Council, AFL~CIO. The four-year terms will run through September 3C, NEW CAFETERIA MANAGER Dorothy Strack of Los Angeles will become manager STARTS NEXT MONDAY of the CSCSB cafeteria starting next Monday. Miss Strack was employed formerly at Mt. St. Mary's College in West Los Agneles. Joyce Hauber, former manager, has been tranferred to the TRW Systems snack bar in Redondo Beach. The CSCSB cafeteria is operated by the Harding-Williams Western Corporation. FLU SHOTS TC BE The Health Center (A-117) will be giving flu shots to GIVEN AGAIN staff and students today from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. They will also continue with the same schedule next week as was followed this week. Please consult last week's Bulletin or the College Calendar for further details. CUSTODIAL STAFF The opening of the new physical science Building caused WORKS OVERTIME members of the custodial staff to work overtime preparing the rooms for the beginning of classes. Some of the custodians worked as late at 2:30 a.m. Frank Warren, supervising custodian, and his staff deserve the thanks of the college for this extra effort.

3 PEOPLE IN Ronald Barnes (Drama)will represent the CSCSB campus at TEE NEWS Mills College October 17 and 18 at the inauguration of Dr. Robert Wert as president. Robert R. Harrison (Art) has been appointed to the National Orange Show Art Exhibit Committee, which will organize and oversee the art exhibit at the Orange Show next March. Vivian McEachern (Health Center) will serve this year as Advisor to Theta Psi Omega, Women's Service Club, on the CSCSB campus. Last year's advisor was Barbara Leiseth who is now teaching at San Diego State. George McMichael (English) will attend the meeting of the Committee on Distinguished Teaching Award Publications of the Chancellor's Office in San Francisco October 16. President Pfau attended the 50th annual meeting of the American Council on Education held this week in Washington, D.C. On October 24 he will participate in the inauguration of President Robert C. Kramer at Cal Poly - Pomona. Robert Roberts (Social Sciences) will attend the meeting of the statewide Advisory Board on International Programs in Francisco October 27. Alexander Sokoloff (Biology)has had published two articles on his research: "Laboratory ecology and mutual predation of Tribolium. species" (in collaboration with I. M. Lerner) in American Naturalist; and (in collaboration with two other biologists) "Tribolium castaneum: morphology of 'aureate' revealed by the scanning electron miscroscope", published in Science. FUNNY FRENCH FILM The great French comedian Fernandel stars in next FEATURES FERNANDEL week's Film Series presentation, "The Sheep Has Five Legs." In a set of five stories about an old French vintner and his quintuplet sons, Fernandel" plays a halfdozen roles. Bosley Crowther of the New York Times called this "probably the best and most hilarious French comedy we've seen since the war This film will be shown at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, October 19 in Room PS-10. TENNIS ANYONE? A small Physical Education class meets Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9 and there are plenty of tennis courts available if faculty and staff would like to join the group.

Thomas Ungerleider, both M.D's, will speak on LoS.D. ^ Mayer Chapman and MrSo Karen Dorey, legal advisors for the Chancellor's Office, will be on campus the 15th and 17th of October to meet with representatives of the various departments regarding legal questions. ENGLISH CLUB Students and faculty who might be interested in activi MEETS WEDNESDAY ties sponsored by the English Club are invited to a meeting at 2;30 p.m. Wednesday, October 18, in L-151. Charles H. Clifton, sponsor of the club, said poetry readings, creative writing and other activities would be considered when the club reorganizes. "We might possibly arrange transportation to relevant events near San Bernardino," Dr. Clifton said. FACULTY, SPOUSES The faculty and faculty spouses have been invited to INVITED TO JOIN participate in the choral and instrumental music MUSIC PROGRAMS programs at CSCSB. The chorus, directed by Dr. Leo Kreter, meets at 11:30 Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays in Room C-104 and students, staff and friends of the College are invited to join. The instrumental program is designed to accommodate persons at all lev^els of performance proficiency. Organization of a small chamber orchestra is planned for the spring. Interested parties should contact Dr. Charles Price, Ext. 389, FACULTY WIVES CLUB The Faculty Wives' Club has taken reservations PLANS THEATER PARTY for 100 tickets to a performance of "The Happy Time," a new musical directed by Gower Champion, at the Ahmanson Theater in the Los Angeles Music Center on Friday, November 3. Mary Barnes, TU , has been compiling the reservation list, which is now filled. Names are being taken for a waiting list in case of cancellation by faculty and staff members who ordered tickets. Z.1.J^^0NAL^ Sympathy of the College is extended to Dr, and Mrs. Kenton Monroe on the recent death of her father in Portland, Oregon. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Michael Eberhard on the birth of a baby girl. Amy, last week. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ward (Rosemary is on leave as Librarian) are parents of a baby girl named Kathleen Ann, born last month.
