2 BULLETin CALIFORNIA STATE COLLEGE SAN BERNARDINO k 1977 September 30, 1977 PERFORMANCES BY RENOWNED ARTIST MARK YEAR-LONG DEDICATION OF (:!(:)LL GE ^5 CREATIVE ARTS BLDG. The formal unveiling of the new Creative Arts Building will be headlined by an artist of international stature. Pianist Leonard Pennario, world-celebrated artist \dio has appeared and recorded with^ greats from the music world such as Jascha Heifetz and Gregor Piatigorsky, will be the solo artist in two appearances which will mark the beginning of the College's year-long dedication of the Creative Arts Building. The renowned performer will present two concerts on Friday, October 14, in the Recital Hall. Pennario Among the selections in the evening program are four which were recorded ^ on Angel Records by Mr. Pennario: "Pavane" by Faure, "Mazurk" and "The B^jo by Gottschalk and "La Valse" by Ravel. Other pieces on the program include "Eight Preludes, Opus 28"by Chopin, "Variations on a Theme of Corelli" by ^chmaninoff, "Sonata No. 2 in F sharp minor, Op. 2"by Brahms, and'visions Fugitives by Prokofiev. Tbe 8 p.m. concert will be a benefit for the music-drama scholarship fund. All seats are $10. Tickets are still available from the President's Office. A reception following the concert will be hosted by the Arrowhead Allied Arts Council. A noon concert especially for students, staff and facility of the College will be performed by the artist who will announce his own program. Tickets go (Continued on page 2) 4,419 STUDENTS ON CAMPUS With an unofficial count in, it appears that 4,419 FOR FALL QUARTER CLASSES students have registered for Fall Quarter classes. The figures were taken as of the last day to register, last Tuesday. Late registration continued yesterday and applications will be accepted through October 5, the last day to add classes. The official student census will be taken on October 19, which is also the last day to drop classes. This year's student enrollment, which equates to 3,389 full-time students, is a 3.7% increase in the F.T.E. figures (3,268) of last year at this time. The actual student population totaled 4,126 as of the last day of registration in » which, compared to the 4,419 students currently on campus, represents a 7.1% increase over last year. POLICY ON USE OF FACILITIES The Physical Education and Recreation ANNOUNCED BY P.E. DEPARTMEl^ has announced changes xn regulations p its facilities. Outdoor facilities will be monitored by an attendant. Students, faculty,staff and others (such as President's Club, Alumni Assn. and immedxate family members) e gible to use the facility, will be asked to present a valxd I.D. The outsxde comraunitj may purchse a recreation permit for use of the outdoor facxlitxes only. Indoor facilities, including the swimming pool, are and instructipnally-related programs of the College, and gene y use by the public. Restrictions were placed on the use of the Indoor facilities, partlcuyrly the pool, because public use dictates that a lifeguard J" "Lure equltawallable for such salaries. 4 The new season in the Art Gallery will open with a show of faculty works entitled "New A reception from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, October 5 will preview the show, which continues through November 2. This year Poppy Solomon, Lect., Art, will take over as gallery director. She succeeds Don Woodford who launched the College's Art Gallery when space became available in the Fine Arts Building. In addition to the works of the regular faculty, Leo Doyle, Joe Moran, Don Woodford, William Warehall, Jan Mrozinski, Roger Lintault and Mrs. Solomon, the exhibit includes part-time and new faculty: Laurie Delarosa. Griffith, Mark Mayuga, Ted Moews, Robert Norton, Michael King and Bruce Wallin. In addition to the traditional subjects of drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, design and ceramics, the show will include glass and wood pieces. Gallery hours for the new year are 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 to 3 p.m. A A FRESHMEN OR SOPHOMORE WOMEN Freshmen or sophomore women in college this fall IN SCIENCE ELIGIBLE FOR WORKSHOP have an opportunity to explore the roles of women in science during a special workshop here October Applications will be accepted through October 5 from women in 10 community colleges and five colleges/universities in the area, according to Florence Weiser, project coordinator, "Sciences" are defined as behavioral, natural, physical and social sciences, in the fields of anthropology, biology, chemistry/ engineering, health science, mathematics, physics, political science, psychology and sociology. The workshop is funded by the National Science Foundation and there is no charge to the 175 students, except for their transportation to the college. Overnight lodging will also be provided. The workshop is aimed at three problems: lack of role models, sex stereotying and lack of information for young women. The keynote speaker will be a noted woman endocrinologist. Dr. Estelle R. Ramey, from the Georgetown University Medical School. Application forms are available from the counseling offices or Office of Continuing Education, CSCSB. THREE CSCSB STUDENTS Three CSCSB juniors will spend the academic year in STUDY IN SPAIN, GERMANY Europe. Two of the threesome are a husband a wife student team, Fred and Esther Lopez who are enrolled at the University of Madrid, under the CSUC International Program. Both are political science majors. Jeff Ricks, a junior administration major, is spending the year at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, under the same program. Mireille Rydell, Prof., French, has been named International Program Coordinator for the CSCSB campus. William Ackerman, Assoc. Prof., Geography, will serve as campus representative for the Fall Quarter until the return of Richard Rowland, Asst. Prof., Geography, who is on leave. 3

5 Robert Blackey (History) spoke before a history **4' class at San Gorgonio High School on "Witchcraft! History and Perspective," Sept. 29. Chuck Christie (Administration) gave a talk on "The Property Tax & Urban Blight: Social, Political, and Economic Implications of the Property Tax" at the Sept. 28 meeting of the East Rialto Kiwanis Club. Janice Loutzenhiser (Administration) is speaking today to the Exchange Club of San Bernardino on "The E.R.A.: What It Is and What It Isn*t. Marvin Frost (Geography) recently had an article entitled PUBLICATIONS "Wildlife Management in Belize: Program Status and Problems" published in The Wildlife Society Bulletin. The report is based on field research conducted by the author in Belize (Central America). T.
