2 2010 Reunion Weekend State University of New York at New Paltz Dear State University of New York at New Paltz Alum, The legend is putting you on notice. Return to campus this October 15-17, 2010 for the Reunion of a lifetime. Come join your friends, your classmates and your professors for a celebration of everything you love about New Paltz. Use this brochure as you guide to the weekend from the class dinners, the departmental gatherings, the performances, a hike at Mohonk Preserve and much, much more. Highlights include the Alumni Heritage Luncheon where all are invited to celebrate the legacy of alumni celebrating a reunion of 50 years or more, as well as honoring our Heritage Award Winners Rosemarie Mainberger McBride 60, 68 g and Karl and Roberta Budmen -- whose extraordinary dedication embodies the spirit of New Paltz. Then, come to the Lantern Society Dinner inducting the Class of 60 into the distinguished ranks of classes reaching their 50 year mark. Finally, you must not miss the All Class Luncheon which brings everyone together to celebrate everything that makes New Paltz New Paltz. Heritage Alumni Luncheon Noon 2:00 p.m. Alumni graduating in 1960 or before are invited to a special luncheon celebration bring photos and memories! This year we will be honoring Rosemarie Mainberger McBride 60, 68 g and Karl and Roberta Budmen with the Heritage Award. The Heritage Award is given annually to honor alumni and faculty whose devotion to the ideals of the college serve as shining examples to the entire New Paltz College community. Lantern Society Dinner 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. Join us as we induct the Class of 1960 and those from previous years who have not received a medallion into the Lantern Society. Casual business attire is appropriate. The Lantern Society consists of alumni who graduated New Paltz 50 or more years ago. The society was created to honor the tradition of the Lantern Ceremony. Lantern Night took place in conjunction with the Moving Up Day Ceremony on Campus, a tradition which began in All classes held a mass practice and sang their original humorous songs. The official day also included a symbolic Moving Up and Honors Convocation.

Observatory Viewing or Planetarium Tour 7:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. *Note: This is a weather permitting event please read below. If the weather is clear, please join us for star and planet gazing at the new Muriel and Jack Smolen Observatory, which boasts several telescopes for your viewing pleasure. A typical night will include planets, star clusters, binary stars and nebulae. Telescope viewings can only take place when the sky is clear; call the observatory at (845) to hear a message indicating if the viewing has been canceled due to poor viewing conditions. If the weather isn t clear, please stop by the John R. Kirk Planetarium for a brief tour and question and answer session. This will be a perfect opportunity to hear the latest current events in the sky or whatever you want to ask about! Theatre Performance: William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night 8:00 p.m. Distinguished Speaker Series Presents: A Reading by John Edgar Wideman 7:30 p.m. 9:30 p.m. Widely-celebrated award winning writer, memoirist and essayist, John Edgar Wideman will read from his latest book, Briefs, a collection of microfictions, and will offer reflections on the African Diaspora. Skies of the Season Three 50-minute Showings: 9:00 a.m.; 10:10 a.m.; 11:20 a.m. Enjoy the stars and constellations in the day time -- under the dome of the John R. Kirk Planetarium. Learn how and when to view planets, meteor showers and the upcoming lunar eclipse. Hear about recent discoveries in space. This activity is not suitable for children younger than 8. A Beginners Guide to Social Networking 11:00 a.m. Noon Don t miss this if you ve been intrigued by Facebook and Twitter, but not sure how to begin. You will learn the power of Facebook and how to create and execute your own Facebook page. You will also discover the benefits of how to follow Twitter and maximize its potential. Explore Historic Huguenot Street 9:00 a.m. 10:30 a.m. Get a healthy dose of history as you tour New Paltz s own National Historic Landmark district. You ll embark on three original stone houses that were altered in the 1830s, the 1890s and the 1940s, enabling three hundred years of history to be told on the street, displaying both continuity and change in American history Baseball, Softball and Women s Lacrosse games 10:00 a.m. Noon New Paltz and Asia, Then and Now 10:00 a.m. Noon A strong relationship between SUNY New Paltz and Asia has developed from the 1960s through the present. In this panel discussion, students of the Asian Studies program, international students from Asia and students of Asian heritage will share some of their experiences studying, living, and working in Asia and in New Paltz. This event is sponsored by the Asian Studies Program and the Center for International Programs. Alumni Heritage Walk 11:00 a.m. Noon Join this walking tour across campus to see all that s changed (and what s stayed the same) over the years. Theatre Career Discussion 11:00 am Noon A panel of distinguished SUNY New Paltz alumni will discuss their career paths in theatre.
