3 Schedule of Events Thursday, Sept p.m. Homecoming Kick-Off Student Home Party Dearden Alumni Campus Block Party Get an early start to the weekend. Join alumni and friends for an informal celebration. Light food and beverages, plus music and games included. Registration also adds your name to a drawing to win a raffle ticket for the Homecoming Raffle and a chance to win the $10,000 grand prize. You may bring your own alcohol, and it must be given to the licensed bartender to serve you. Bring your I.D. for verification of age by bartender. If you have any questions, contact MHSAA at alumnimhsaa@comcast.net. The cost is $20 per person if paid in advance. If paid at the door, the cost will be $25. Proceeds will benefit MHSAA. RSVP requested. Friday, Sept a.m. 2:30 p.m. MHSAA Golf Tournament and Barbecue Deer Valley Golf Course, 101 Stoudt Rd., Hummelstown If you have questions or special considerations related to golf or the barbecue, contact Jim Black at or blackja@mhs-pa.org. 7 a.m. Homecoming Golf Tournament and Barbecue Registration is limited to 144 golfers. Participation is open to alumni, honorary alumni, their family and friends. Traditional golf prizes will be awarded. Shotgun start at 7:45 a.m. The registration fee is $70 per golfer. The fee includes continental breakfast, golf, cart, barbecue and prizes. If paid after Sept. 18, the cost will be $75 at the door, paid by check or cash. Please use the Homecoming registration form to register for golf. Tee and green sponsorship available; contact MHSAA at Donate old clubs and other golf-related items to the MHS First Tee program; contact MHSAA at :30 p.m. MHSAA Barbecue Deer Valley Golf Course, 101 Stoudt Rd., Hummelstown Open to alumni, family, friends, former and current MHS employees. The registration fee is $25 per person if paid by Sept. 18; the cost will be $30 per person at the door. The fee includes food, but no alcoholic beverages. Vote for MHSAA directors. Ballot included with this brochure. Only dues-paying members may vote. Please note that members of the Classes of may vote and register for Homecoming Banquet tickets, but are not required to pay dues. You may pay membership dues as part of Homecoming registration. Noon 6 p.m. Multicultural and Global Education Series: MHS International Travels Clyde Stacks Visual Arts Center Gallery As part of the MHS International Travel Program, this exhibit will feature the shared travel experiences of students who have participated in the growing number of world travels over the past few years. Included will be a large mural featuring a comprehensive visual representation of the various trips; individual student visual interpretations from respective travel experiences; and various relics and photos collected. The MHS International Travel Program provides opportunities for students to investigate global issues and to gain cultural appreciation. The goal of the program is to help students become global citizens as they embrace the challenges of the 21st century. 9 a.m. 2 p.m. Open House: Memorial Hall, Catherine Hall, Senior Hall Guided tours offered at Memorial Hall, Catherine Hall and Senior Hall. Alumni and their guests must present a valid driver s license or passport at the main office of each school building in order to obtain a visitor s pass. At Catherine Hall, drive in front of the building and follow the road to a parking lot near the main entrance. 9 a.m. 2 p.m. Open House: Dearden House and Kinderhaus Tour the Dearden House for a glimpse of MHS residential life in the 1950s and 1960s. The restored and renovated home includes life-size displays, artifacts and interactive videos in a museum layout. Take the opportunity to visit the MHS Heritage Center at Kinderhaus and see some new exhibits. If you would like to view photos from your time at the School in the archives reading room, make an appointment with Susan Alger at or algers@mhs-pa.org. 2 3 p.m. Spartan Hall of Fame Induction Founders Hall Auditorium Join students, staff and faculty as MHS honors the 2017 Spartan Hall of Fame Inductees. RSVP requested. 6:30 8 p.m. Former Student Home Englewood Reunion Cocoa Beanery, Research Boulevard Alumni who lived at former student home Englewood now the Cocoa Beanery are invited to a reunion reception at the Cocoa Beanery. Come out and show your Spartan pride! 4 7 p.m. Dearden Alumni Campus Block Party Dearden Alumni Campus, 109 McCorkel Rd., Hershey Following the annual Spartan football game, alumni and their guests are invited to the Dearden Alumni Campus Block Party. This family-friendly event will include music, ZooAmerica wildlife display, bounce house, and other fun activities for young and the young-at-heart. This alcohol-free event is open to all ages. Alumni may pre-purchase Block Party food tickets for $2 per ticket. Each ticket is good for a sandwich, French fries, a drink and a dessert. You may pre-register using the Homecoming registration form. All Block Party food tickets will be available for pick-up at the Dearden Alumni Campus on Sept. 30 beginning at 4 p.m. Food tickets also may be purchased at the Block Party for $5 per ticket. Due to limited parking at the Dearden Alumni Campus, a shuttle will be available from the Henry Hershey Field parking lot to the Block Party following the football game. The Block Party and the Homecoming Banquet times overlap. Please register for one event or the other. 4:30 6 p.m. Alumni Glee Club Rehearsal Hershey Lodge Anyone who sang in the Glee Club, Senior High Choir, New Horizons, or who enjoys singing is invited to perform following the Homecoming Banquet. 5 6:30 p.m. MHS Annual Homecoming Banquet Hershey Lodge Reunion classes will have reserved tables at the banquet and reunion rooms following the banquet. Winners of the MHSAA Raffle will be drawn and announced at the banquet. Adults only. Attire for the banquet is Sunday best. If you require an allergen-free meal, please mark it on the registration form. Tickets required: Members of the MHS Alumni Association and widows of alumni are eligible to request up to two complimentary banquet tickets. Alumni may pay membership dues with their Homecoming registration. Alumni who do not pay membership dues to MHSAA will be charged $20 per ticket. Please use the Homecoming registration form in this brochure to reserve your tickets, or reserve them using online registration at mhsalum.org. Reminder: If you register for tickets, they are to be picked up at Registration on Friday or Saturday in Founders Hall, or at Hershey Lodge, 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Saturday. All proceeds for banquet tickets will go to the MHS Alumni Association. No one will be admitted without a ticket; doors will close at 6:30 p.m. Immediately following the Homecoming Banquet MHS Lifer Photo Hershey Lodge, Blue and White Room Alumni who enrolled at MHS during first grade or earlier are invited to gather for a group photo immediately following the Homecoming Banquet. Please meet at the designated area in the banquet hall. 9 p.m. Alumni Glee Club Performance Hershey Lodge, Red Room Alumni who sang in the HIS/MHS Glee Club and others who enjoy singing will perform a variety of songs, many that are familiar to alumni of the school. 9 p.m. Alumni Celebration Hosted by the 30-Year Reunion Class Hershey Lodge, Cocoa Ballroom The Class of 1987 continues the tradition of hosting a fundraising event to benefit MHSAA following the Homecoming Banquet. The event is open to all MHS alumni and their guests. Advance tickets are recommended and may be pre-ordered as part of your Homecoming registration. Limited tickets will be available during Homecoming weekend at Founders Hall Registration, the pre-game Homecoming Picnic and during the football game. Tickets cost $10 each. RSVP requested. Sunday, Oct. 1 8:30 a.m. Graveside Memorial Service Hershey Cemetery 2017 Alumnus of the Year Eric Welsh 84 will pay tribute to MHS founders Milton and Catherine Hershey. 9:30 a.m. Homecoming Chapel Service Founders Hall Auditorium Please note: All school buildings are locked and have special visitor access restrictions in place, including Founders Hall during Sunday Chapel Services where the accessible doors are open until 9:30 a.m. RSVP requested. Please see details on page 6 in this brochure. 10:40 a.m. Memorial Grove Service Alumni Memorial Grove MHSAA s annual service to memorialize alumni who passed away since last Homecoming. All graduates and their guests are encouraged to join us for this solemn and moving remembrance. RSVP requested. 11 a.m. 1:30 p.m. Sunday Brunch Purcell Friendship Hall Proceeds to benefit the Homestead Chapter of MHSAA. Tickets cost $10 per adult if paid in advance. The cost will be $15 at the door. The cost for children s meals is $5 per child RSVP requested Spartan Hall of Fame Inductees Milton Hershey School created the Spartan Hall of Fame to recognize the noteworthy accomplishments of members of the Milton Hershey School family in the areas of Athletics and the Visual and Performing Arts. This award recognizes the recipients achievements while at MHS in hopes of inspiring current and future MHS students. The inductees will be honored at a special ceremony on Friday, Sept. 29, at 2 p.m. in Founders Hall Auditorium. You are cordially invited to join MHS Senior Division students and staff as we recognize the achievements of these individuals. Class Agents and other class volunteers are busy making plans for individual reunion celebrations in addition to the weekend events listed in this brochure. If you graduated in a year ending in 7 or 2, please contact your class agent or reunion planning volunteer for details. For a list of Class Agents, visit mhsaa.org, or phone or Win up to $10,000 cash with MHSAA Homecoming Raffle The winners will be drawn on Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Homecoming Banquet. You do not need to be present to win. Please support this MHSAA fundraising effort. Tickets cost $100 each. Top prize is $10,000; two, $1,500 winners and four, $500 winners. Only 300 tickets to be sold. Visitor access restricted at school buildings All school buildings are locked and have special visitor access restrictions in place, including Founders Hall during Sunday Chapel Services where the accessible doors are open only until 9:30 a.m. when Chapel is to begin. Any visits to student homes are to be pre-arranged with the houseparents. Need lodging in the Hershey area?
