3 Inside Delaware inspires interest, creates connections and incites enthusiasm for the Blue and the Gold. With a behind-the-scenes pass, guests glimpse the greatness that defines Delaware, hearing the stories and sharing in the vision of the place we all share. Through sessions and conversations with our leaders, guests will discuss interests and ideas, ask questions and present concerns, all while contributing to the foundation and the future of the University of Delaware. Inside Delaware will be held April 14 and 15 on the Newark campus for a small, select group of current University parents. Thursday, April 14 4:30 - Arrival and Registration 5:15 pm Courtyard by Marriott 5:30 - Welcome Reception for Parents and Students 7:00 pm hosted by President Harker Please join senior administrators, academic deans and Student Life representatives as we enjoy a private reception in one of the most iconic spaces on our campus the Old College Gallery. Recently renovated, the gallery showcases the University s permanent art collection, encompassing paintings from the 17th century to the present, as well as 20th-century sculptures, Russian icons and pre-columbian ceramics, all given by donors over the past century. Friday, April 15 Agenda Participation in all events is mandatory and expected, unless otherwise noted. Your University student will be invited to certain portions of the 2-day event, once your registration is confirmed. Further details will be provided upon registration. 8:30 am The Measure of Success: Essential Elements for Student Transitions into Professional Life with Matthew Brink, Director, Career Services Center What does it take for students to maximize their competitiveness for jobs or graduate school? You ll have the chance to sit in the hiring seat, review real application materials, make the hiring decision, and then analyze the tipping point that leads to an offer.

4 10:30 am Playing Sick: Excellence in Patient Care Takes Center Stage with the Colleges of Health Sciences & Arts and Sciences In a collaborative partnership, theatre students portray live patients who receive multidisciplinary treatment from nursing and physical therapy students in a simulated learning environment. Providing "real" yet standardized experiences for training health care providers, the Standardized Patient Program is touted as a national model for innovative training practices in the nursing and physical therapy sciences and is believed to the first of its kind in any higher-education center. 12:15 pm Student Life at Delaware: Supportive, Strategic, and Sustaining with Dr. Michael Gilbert, Vice President for Student Life; Dawn Thompson, Dean of Students; and Dr. Charles Beale, Director, Center for Counseling and Student Development With a commitment to creating a strong support system and learning environment while fostering social and academic growth, the Division of Student Life is an integral part of the University of Delaware. Enjoy lunch at the President s House while meeting key leadership of our Student Life team and hearing about the ways in which the division enhances overall student development. 1:45 pm Gee Whiz It s G-Vis! with the College of Earth, Ocean and Environment Join scientists and students as we explore the globe from our Newark campus. Using cutting-edge technology in the Global Visualization (G-Vis) laboratory, we can better understand the planet and environmental systems by studying the live data feeds that exist through research efforts of our scientists in the field. 3:30 pm Inside Delaware: A Conversation with President Pat Harker Bring your questions and thoughts about the University of Delaware to this private, executive session with President Harker and your fellow parents. 6:00 pm Creating a Global Community: The Impact of Study Abroad (Reception from Seventy-five years ago, America's first study abroad program was launched at the 6:00 7:00 pm, University of Delaware when a young professor walked into the President's office with dinner to with a daring plan: to send students abroad for their junior year. On July 7, 1923, the follow) first Delaware group of one professor and eight young men sailed for France aboard the Rochambeau. Today, UD remains a national leader in study abroad, consistently ranking among the top ten research-extensive institutions in the percentage of students it sends abroad. UD students now study on all seven continents including Antarctica with faculty from all seven UD colleges. We invite you and your student to join us as we celebrate the exciting world of study abroad with an international reception and dinner hosted by President Harker and Dr. Lesa Griffiths, Director of the Institute for Global Studies.

6 Event Details Commitment Due to the nature of Inside Delaware, we are unable to accommodate requests to attend only parts of the event. Guests must commit to the full slate of activities from Thursday afternoon through Friday evening, as listed on the agenda. Events on Saturday are optional, but may require you to purchase tickets. Registration Limits To provide the best experience possible, registration for Inside Delaware is limited to 30 parents, on a first-come, first-served basis. Please make your reservation early by returning the enclosed reply card. A waiting list will be kept, with guests notified if space becomes available. Once your registration is received, your student will be invited to participate in the sessions specific to him or her. Dress Dress for Inside Delaware is business casual. Please bring comfortable shoes for walking around campus. Accommodations Complimentary hotel rooms at the Courtyard Marriott on the UD campus are available to our guests. Reservations will be made once your response is received. Confirmations When we receive your response, a confirmation will be sent to you, followed by a mailed packet with full details about Inside Delaware approximately 10 days before the event. This will include a final agenda, session locations, parking information and more.
