It is NOT necessary to call and request a statement. Others who still would like to request a statement, should call the rectory. Donations received after January 1, 2016, will not be included in 2015 donations. Statements will be mailed out after January 10 and everyone should receive their statement by February 1. 4 Dear St. Louise de Marillac Church, Thank you so much for participating in our annual Santa Anonymous program. With your help, were able to provide gifts for over 190 individuals this year. Many of our participants face financial hardships during the holidays, but this year you have helped make the season brighter for someone with an intellectual/developmental disability. Prayer Shawl Ministry January Teen Club: Senior High-January 15 & 22. Open gym at 8:00. Junior High-January 22, 2:45-4:45, dependent on chaperones. At least one Virtus trained adult is needed. Eucharistic Adoration: Any youth in grades 7-12 who would like to experience Adoration of the Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, meet in the Teen Room at 6:30 on Wednesday, January 13. We will discuss what Adoration is all about and then go to church to spend some time with Jesus. Snacks afterward in Teen Room. Second Wednesday of the month for remainder of school year. 30 Hour Famine Kick-off: On January 15 we kick-off this year s World Vision 30 Hour Famine. Youth in grades 7-12 and their parents are invited. Permission forms and reservations required by January 13. Karyn Zick Miller Ski Trip: St. Louise Youth Ministry will again be participating in the Archdiocesan All Night Ski Event January $105 fee includes ski or snowboard and helmet rental, lift ticket, and a lesson. $92 with your own equipment. Leave around 6:00 p.m. on Friday, and return between 8:00 and 9:00 Saturday morning. Registration closes January 12. Money and permission form must be returned by January 10. Checks payable to SLM Teen Club. Our Prayer Shawl ministry is going strong here at St. Louise due to the talented efforts of the ladies who prayerfully, and with much care, knit or crochet shawls to be given to those who are ill, grieving, homebound, or in a crisis to just name a few. If you knit or crochet, put your talents to good use. If you wish to learn, we will teach you. 5 ASP SUMMER TEEN SERVICE TRIP The ASP group will kick off their preparation for the Summer 2016 Service Trip on Sunday, January 10 at 6:30 in the school. Our first meeting will discuss fundraising events and the calendar. ASP is the Appalachian Service Project where teens and adults from all over the country gather in Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, and West Virginia to make homes warmer, safer, and drier for those in need. St. Louise teens have participated for the last four years and this year s trip is scheduled for July 3-9. This meeting is for past attendees and anyone new who would like to participate. To attend as a teen participant, you must have completed the 8th grade up to just completed high school. Adult volunteers (25 yrs+) are needed to accompany the teens. Psalm 104:19 CHICAGO MARCH FOR LIFE March for Life Chicago is on Sunday, March 17. Meet at the Federal Plaza, 50 W. Adams at 2:00. Join pro-lifers from Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana for the largest prolife event in Illinois. Hear speakers, religious leaders, abortion survivors and a comedian who adopted three children. The march begins and ends at the Federal Plaza. Over 120 coats were collected and picked up by the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Share that cheerful greeting with some folks today. They may wonder if you have had any Elvis sightings lately, attended Star Trek conventions, or were Cleopatra in a previous lifetime. Despite the skeptics, today is solidly within the Christmas season. In fact, in some strands of the Christian tradition it represents the clearest manifestation of the mystery of the Incarnation. On Christmas Day, for example, the Gospel reading is the Prologue of John s Gospel, which reveals the glory of Christ shining through our humanity precisely in his baptism. At any rate, this is an ancient feast, celebrated first in Egypt sixteen centuries ago. More than most other ancient people, the Egyptians understood the life giving properties of water. On this day, they drew water from the Nile, so central in the history of their people, and reserved it in honor. Many other places copied the custom, so that St. John Chrysostom wrote of people in Antioch gathering at midnight to collect flowing water into vessels they brought from home since today there is a blessing on the water. At home for dinner tonight, decorate the table with beautiful bowls of water and white candles, toast one another with goblets of sparkling water, and light a Christmas candle in the window one last time.
