2 Router Malware Corey Miller, Ext Director of Information Services In the past month, there have been numerous stories regarding malware (malicious software) that has been attacking wireless routers recently. The malicious software is known as VPNfilter and it can insert code that steals information or spreads itself to other routers. The FBI had issued a warning to restart your router to thwart this attack. This malicious software does not affect the wireless network equipment used by Cross Keys Village. The software infects home routers and since an enterprise-grade wireless network has been employed, Villagers remain protected with the increased level of security and do not need to perform any further action. As future network security concerns arise, updates will be posted in the Village Voice. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at ext Therapy Spa Closed for Cleaning Wellness Team, Ext It is that time again. The therapy pool will be closed for our quarterly draining and cleaning on July 2. This process allows us to maintain optimal chemical levels in the water. Please contact the Wellness Team at with any questions or concerns about this maintenance process. Thank you in advance for your understanding! Well your next opportunity comes on Sunday, June 24 in and features Victor Fields who is returning to share his talents with us for a 7 th consecutive year. He earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in music from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, the Peabody Conservatory of Music and the University of Cincinnati and is well respected as an organist, conductor and teacher. The instrument, a completely mechanical action tracker, was originally supplied with air by means of a hand-pump bellows mechanism. This mechanism was replaced with an electric blower, which is still in current use. The instrument was made in 1869, two years before George Jardine retired and turned the business over to his son. Ours is currently one of few existing Jardine organs still in use. When the firm closed its doors in the early 1900 s, it had built approximately 1300 organs in the United States and Mexico. Currently, there are less than 100 left in the world. So please plan to join us for a unique concert. Admission is free and refreshments will be served afterwards. The scammer s goal is to get the targeted individuals to call them back. This is why this is being called the Hang-up scam. Here is how it works. The scammer calls you on either your landline or cell phone number with the intention of hanging up, either before you answer or immediately after you answer. You may be curious who called you, so you use your caller ID function to call back and see who it was. The scammers have set-up a phone line similar to 900 numbers, which you may remember from years ago. These were lines you called for a service, and the charges were typically high to make the call back. You as the caller are responsible for the costs. Some people scammed by this have seen charges as high as $20 for making the call and up to $10 per minute after the call continues and they keep you on the line. There is a list of area codes that this scam applies to and there are too many to list for this article s purposes. Authorities believe that many of these scams originate from the Caribbean islands, so you want to avoid calling back if you see that a call came from Grenada, British Virgin Islands, Jamaica or any other similar countries. Let s not become a target. If you do not know who the caller is or the reason for their call, the best way to handle these scams is to not try to call them back for any reason. As always, never share any personal information with someone calling you who you do not know or regularly conduct business with. For more information, you can contact the free senior helpline with the PA State Attorney General s office at Air Filling Station & Car Wash Residential Living, Ext Did you know that in the Meadow Lane area there is an air filling station and car wash area? It is located on the left side as you enter Meadow Lane just past the Woodshop. There is an air chuck with a dial-type gauge for easy filling and checking and a garden hose for washing cars and golf carts. If you need assistance, the Transportation and Grounds team members are always willing to lend a hand (with checking tires. You are on your own washing your car)! Right of Way Brian Lawrence, Ext Director of Village Housing Getting around a campus as large as ours can call for many different modes of transportation other than traditional motor vehicles. We see everything from pedestrians to bicycles to golf carts. Any of these modes can be seen on our sidewalks at the same time. With that in mind, please remember pedestrians always have the right of way and golf carts should always yield to pedestrians and bicycles. Help us keep our campus safe and healthy by sharing our sidewalks. Page 8 of 8
