2 P A G E 2 Day of Service Event to Honor Dr. King Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. stated, Life s most persistent and urgent question is: what are you doing for others? On Monday, January 19th, The Wilson Health Care Center hosted its second annual Day of Service event in the Center for Excellence Room of the Asbury Methodist Village Administration Building. A staple community outreach program for residents at Wilson Health Care Center, the Smart Sacks Project received several volunteers wanting to lend a helping hand with our Day of Service to honor Martin Luther King s legacy. The Smart Sacks Project is a weekly program where Wilson residents get together to assemble bags of food for those in need in our community. It was the perfect platform to use for the annual Day of Service. The Wilson Health Care Center, Manna Food Center and Whole Foods Market partnership brought together forty volunteers consisting of area students, as well as local Girl Scout Troop #1564. On hand was Tom Fedor, a photographer for the Gaithersburg Gazette. Together, volunteers assembled 150 bags of non-perishable items for students in the Linkages to Learning program of Gaithersburg Elementary School. Once completed, Whole Foods Market served a wonderful lunch while the volunteers watched a presentation showing Wilson residents in action during their weekly Smart Sacks community outreach meeting. We look forward to hosting next year. Thanks to the staff at Manna Food Center and Whole Foods Market, and to Asbury Volunteer Manager Sharon Bennett, for helping make this event a successful Day of Service.

4 P A G E 4 Valentines Day Dinner Party On Friday, February 13th, the Wilson Health Care Center Admissions Team hosted a campus-wide dinner party in the Rosborough Community Rooms. The live band provided endless entertainment and music for dancing!

5 National Nutrition Month March is National Nutrition Month, and we are celebrating! P A G E 5 This year s topic announced by The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is Bite into A Healthy Lifestyle, which encourages you to adopt eating and physical activity plans that are focused on consuming fewer calories, making informed food choices and getting daily exercise in order to achieve and maintain a healthy weight and reduce the risk of chronic disease and promote overall health. Each Wednesday we are promoting a different topic with handouts for residents, associates and families. This will be featured in our Russell Avenue Café. Wednesday March 4- Power up Your Breakfast! We will feature a special healthy breakfast item. Wednesday March 11- Healthy snacks will feature a healthy snack item from our kitchen. Wednesday March 18- Find out information on Pre and Probiotics and taste items that contain good sources. Wednesday March 25- What is Mindful eating? Dining and Nutrition Services is working on the new menu cycle for spring! We will be focusing on more of a comfort food style menu. After meetings and surveys, the data is in and we are answering the requests. We will feature items that are most requested, such as Tomato Basil Soup, Spaghetti and Roast Turkey. 6 P A G E 6 Welcome to our new Social Workers! My name is Angela Bomba, but you can call me Angie if you d like! I grew up in a small rural town in Pennsylvania, with both parents and one brother. I attended Edinboro University of Pennsylvania for my undergrad and graduate degrees in Social Work. My husband took a job with Montgomery County Police, so we moved to Maryland shortly after getting married. We have two sons, a 6 year old and a 5 month old, and both keep us very busy. I ve worked in two other continuing care retirement communities prior to Asbury and I enjoy my job very much. Also, I like to read, love animals, and have a chocolate addiction. Looking forward to meeting you! Angela Bomba, LCSW-C My name is Rachel Jones and I am grew up here in Montgomery County, MD. I received my Bachelor s Degree in Human Services from Elon University in North Carolina and my Master s of Social Work degree from Boston College. I have always enjoyed helping others and have been volunteering in schools and other agencies since I was in elementary school. My interest in volunteering led me into the social work field. I love to travel and have traveled to many countries throughout the world (and counting). I can t wait to add to my list of countries visited! I also enjoy playing and watching various sports.
