St. Andrew s Area Food Cupboard will be this weekend s Parish Sharing recipient. Catholic Family Center is an agency within Catholic Charities. One of its programs is Housing and Emergency Services. They operate 3 emergency shelters: 2 for women and women with children, 1 for men. Their client-focused approach provides individualized case management and supportive counseling to break the cycle of homelessness and stabilize clients lives. In 2016, over 2,700 individuals in Monroe County were served in emergency housing. With Cold and Flu Season Upon Us. With the advent of the cold and flu season, it is important that we work together to limit the spread of germs. Here are a few things that you can do: 1. Consider getting vaccinated against the flu; 2. Follow rules of good hygiene, especially washing your hands often. 3. If you are ill, stay home until you are better. At this time, we will suspend the use of the cup during the daily and weekend Masses. Our parish continues to follow the directions of the Diocese of Rochester and the USCCB. We will also follow the direction of the County Health Department with regard to any community practices. All events and workshop services will go forward as scheduled. Please pray for the health of our community and especially those whom you know are ill.

4 Page Four St. Charles Borromeo Church Rochester, New York Father Ted s Catechism for Seniors... From the last time: Last weekend my "inner growth" was doing better than it is this weekend. I'm not feeling completely upbeat and hopeful any more. The President and congresspersons have not progressed very far with a bipartisan immigration bill. However, it looks like Mr. Trump and Kim Jong -Un are cooling their rhetoric while plans for the Winter Olympics in South Korea continue. Here's an answer to an unasked question: When there is a real possibility of a missile attack aimed at my city, is there anything available to me as a Catholic to give me peace and spiritual calm? Yes, there is. There is an article in today's Washington Post (January 18) about how Bishop Larry Silva of Honolulu responded when a false "real alert" about an imminent missile attack was announced. He knew that there was a retreat in progress for deacon candidates and their wives in a chapel next to the rectory. He joined the group (without stopping to put on his collar), asked them to participate in an abbreviated Penance Service and said the words of General Absolution. Then he invited everyone to breakfast in his dining room where "the walls are three feet thick". One deacon told the reporter that "it was incredibly calming for everyone". The purpose of all the materials is to help Catholics learn and live their faith and to pass it on! There are new materials for the Christmas season. Our K of C Council donated a display of Building the Domestic Church booklets with 15 different topics on the family. This display is also at the back of church. Another resource available to our parishioners is FORMED. This is online access to ebooks, talks, and videos about our Catholic faith. The service has been paid for so that individuals at St. Charles Borromeo can make use of it for free. Check our website for details to log in and discover what is being offered on the website! Invite them to consider going through the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults and Children (RCIA / RCIC).
