3 Page Three May 31, 2015 PARISH SUPPORT SUNDAY PLATE FOR MAY 24, 2015 Due to an earlier bulletin deadline, the financial information will be reported in next weekend s bulletin (June 7). (Our fiscal year is 7/1/14-6/30/15) Thank you for your Generosity! Church Roof Project Our next Capital Campaign Project has begun. This involves replacement of the Church roof. Please note that the exit to Dewey Avenue (between the Church and Rectory) will be temporarily closed during the project. It is scheduled to be 5 to 6 weeks in duration. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Parish Office. TBD went to Rochester Area Right to Life this past weekend. Focus Pregnancy Help Center will be this weekend s Parish Sharing recipient. Every summer we make a donation to the Hispanic Migrant Ministry located in Brockport. Next weekend's parish sharing will go to that cause. The ministry is housed in the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the center of Brockport. A mass in Spanish is celebrated there on Sunday afternoon. Martin Farms and Sodoma Farms (in the Brockport area) have camps for the migrant workers who supply so much of the labor for food production. The work also includes processing of food after harvest (cabbage, as an example). This Brockport ministry covers the west side of the diocese. With regard to the east side, we have helped migrants through donations to La Casa in Sodus. We Welcome You to St. Charles Borromeo Parish Thank you for joining us. We are glad you have chosen to worship at St. Charles this weekend. Are you interested in becoming a member of the parish? If you need more information or would like to register, please call Mary Eggleston at x107 or contact her by at meggleston@dor.org. Wine Sharing Weekend June 6 & 7 The weekend of June 6 & 7 is the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ. We will again have Wine Sunday for the church. If you would like to donate a bottle of Livingston Cellars Blush Chablis (9% alcohol content) that we use for Church, please place it by the statue of St. Joseph. If you would rather contribute to the cost of the wine, please place a donation in an envelope marked Wine Donation and put it in the collection basket. Envelopes are available at the entrances of Church for your convenience. Thank you for your generosity. St. Charles Borromeo Parish Pictorial Directory Beginning this weekend, volunteers will be available in the back of church to sign-up for the Parish Pictorial Directory. For your convenience, you may also sign-up on-line through the parish website. Just click on the Portrait Icon and follow the steps to sign-up. If you want, you can call the Parish Office during regular business hours to sign-up as well. We need you to make this directory a success!. 4 Page Four Medication Errors - Nancy Cody Most of us take some kind of medication for a clinical purpose with the intent to alleviate symptoms, lower health risks or improve our health in some way. It s very important to follow instructions by the health care provider as to how to take the medication. Remember, never assume if a little bit helps, a lot will be better. Every medication has a long history of research and examination and doses are based on balancing the pros (effectiveness) with the cons (side effects). Many medications interact with other medications, therefore the dose is prescribed with the knowledge of what medications you take. The expectation from the prescribing provider is that you will follow the instructions exactly, taking the medication as ordered at the dose expected, no more or less. (Getting into a good habit is important. It sometimes takes real creative thinking to develop the habit.) This way, the follow up visit will assess how the medication is contributing to the problem, improving or otherwise, so the dose can be adjusted accordingly. Often times, the body has to have a few days or weeks to adapt to the medication. Sometimes it takes patience to get through this introductory time with symptoms such as lethargy or stomach distress. If you can get through the first few days, usually the body adapts and the medicine begins to work, symptoms or bloodwork demonstrates improvement. Herbal medication, over-the-counter medicines, supplements, should all be reported to provider as they can significantly affect the expected response to prescribed medication. Please don t make the mistake of assuming because they can easily be purchased that they are harmless, far from true. Be careful not to believe every claim written on the bottle.. Finally, it would be my pleasure to answer any questions regarding a medication, purpose, how to take, or any other concern; bring your questions when we are doing our 2 nd weekend of the month blood pressure checks, or you are welcome to contact me via NCody@vnsnet.com. 6 Page Six For Your Information. FATHER TOM BROWN'S ANNIVERSARY Many of you remember Father Tom Brown; he often served at our parish while home from his mission in Brazil. On June 4, 2015, he celebrates the 60th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood. His health does not allow him to travel back here this year, but he would love to hear from friends at St. Charles. If you would like to send him a card, his address is below. (He also accepts donations towards his latest project: -a college that is being built in his most recent parish.) Father Thomas Brown, OMI Rua Pe. Marchetti, 596 Ipiranga, Sao Paulo - SP BRAZIL LIGHTHOUSE CDS Check out the Lighthouse Catholic Media kiosks at the back of church for CDs, books, booklets, and pamphlets. As we have just passed Divine Mercy Sunday, check out the materials related to that. One of the CDs is The Second Greatest Story Ever Told. It is a talk by Fr. Michael Gaitley, a priest of the Congregation of Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception and the director of the Association of Marian Helpers, a spiritual benefit society with more than one million members. Fr. Gaitley talks about Divine Mercy, the role of Blessed John Paul II in Divine Mercy, and the crucial role that Marian consecration can play in your life. This is definitely not a dry speech! You re Invited! Social Ministry Committee Meeting Wednesday, June 7 pm The Social Ministry Committee (SMC) invites you to a meeting this Wednesday, June 3 in Room 10 at 7 PM. We welcome anyone who would just like to hear what the SMC does. Can't make this meeting but want to be involved with special SMC projects? Give a call to Kathy Termine at Mark Your Calendars!
