2 Welcome to Kamehameha Schools 30TH ANNUAL ALUMNI WEEK Aloha mai kākou! As the Poʻo Kula of the Kapālama campus I am so honored to welcome you back for Alumni Week! Our Founder, Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, envisioned the Kamehameha Schools serving Native Hawaiians into perpetuity and we are all proof of that. We all feel a sense of indebtedness to Kamehameha Schools and Pauahi for the opportunities afforded us while enrolled as students here on the Kapālama campus. The experiences we had as students have helped us to build a strong foundation making it possible for us to accomplish outstanding achievements. Since leaving Kamehameha I know that many of you have contributed in different ways that have brought honor to the legacy of our Princess. Mahalo nui for all you have done and will continue to do to lift the lāhui. Our Parents & Alumni Relations division has been working tirelessly to put together activities and programs that will be fun, uplifting, and bring a deeper awareness and appreciation to our Hawaiian well-being culturally, spiritually, socially, economically, physically, emotionally, and cognitively. As you join in the activities of Alumni Week 2019 may you enjoy renewing old friendships and making new ones too. As we say at Kamehameha, E Ola! The 2019 Alumni Golf Tournament, hosted by the class of 1988 and Pauahi Foundation, will tee off at Pearl Pearl Country Club. Proceeds go to the Pauahi Foundation in support of post-high scholarships for native Hawaiian haumāna. Players will enjoy a three-man scramble format, handicap required (Max 24 for men, 30 for women). Registration fees include range balls, greens fee and cart, two refreshment tickets, lunch, snacks on the course, dinner buffet and prizes. This year, we will offer mulligans available to purchase at check-in and a new game will be featured during play. Each player will receive a special gift for participating in the tournament. Board a KS school bus as we journey into Waikīkī to the Royal Hawaiian Center, also known as Helumoa. Once there, we will gather in the Royal Grove for welcoming protocol and present ho okupu to the statue of our beloved Princess. You will then get a cultural overview and learn about Pauahi s Helumoa heritage and take part in a lauhala weaving lesson. Enjoy a leisurely lunch followed by free time when you can explore the area and shops before we head back to campus. Please note that this tour requires walking. Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and dress in cool, modest attire. for tour and lunch. Two (2) tickets maximum. NO ALCOHOL PERMITED. - OR - ALUMNI ON THE ʻĀINA EXPERIENCE MAUNALUA (TOUR OF KS LANDS IN HAWAIʻI KAI) 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM Meet at Kekūhaupiʻo Bus Departs at 8:45 AM $25.00 per person includes lunch for tour. Journey to the ahupuaʻa of Maunalua (notable for its great fishpond, Loko Kuapā, currently referred to as Hawaiʻi Kai) and learn about the history and tenure of the ʻāina (once owned by Victoria Kamāmalu, managed by the Bishop Estate and developed by the Kaiser Development). Our first stop is not accessible to the general public; however, special access will be granted so attendees can enjoy the majestic views of the moku of Koʻolau Poko and the ahupuaʻa of Maunalua. We ll pause in Kamilonui Valley to visit a family-owned farm and enjoy the delicacies that are made from cassava (tapioca). The huakaʻi will wrap-up with an experience at U-Pick Farm providing the group a chance to pick their own produce. Don t miss this first time offering to experience Maunalua. for lunch. KING KAMEHAMEHA DAY PARADE Join in the fun at the King Kamehameha Celebration Parade. Participants will enjoy reserved seating in bleachers located on the grounds of ʻIolani Palace. Wear blue and white or your class colors and support the parade which honors Princess Pauahi s great-grandfather. Don t forget your sunscreen and papale. The bus will be there to pick you up following the parade so that you can return to campus in plenty of time to get ready for the Alumni Week Lūʻau.. Two (2) tickets maximum. 6 Boarding is for adults 21 years of age or older. Available beginning Tuesday, June 4, 2019 Please remember that these dorms are high school STUDENT residences. There are multiple levels with stairs and ALL the dorms have shared restrooms and shower facilities. Beds are twin size beds only. Linen is NOT provided. NO children or pets are allowed. WHAT TO BRING Boarders need to provide their own twin sheets, pillows, pillowcases, blankets, towels and clothes hangers. Washers, dryers and irons are available in the dorms. HANDICAP ACCESS Handicap access is limited. Please indicate any special needs request on the registration form. We will do our best to accommodate your request, but please remember that we do not have hotel accommodations in the dorms. BOARDER PARKING Parking is limited. A Boarder Vehicle Permit must be completed upon check-in and placed on the dashboard at all times while on campus. Please be mindful of where you park as not to inconvenience others. SHUTTLE BUSES Shuttle buses will be available to transport guests from the dorms to scheduled Alumni Week campus events. Shuttle schedules will be included in the boarder packets and the Alumni Week program of the week. Boarding BOARDER RULES DUE TO LIMITED AVAILABILITY, BOARDING IS ONLY OPEN TO CLASSES CELEBRATING 15 YEARS OR MORE. NO amplified music allowed in dorms. Boarding is limited to ONE celebrating graduate plus ONE guest. All boarders must sign a WAIVER AND RELEASE form at check-in. Dorms will close at 12:00 midnight to non-boarders throughout Alumni Week. Boarders must be registered for at least one PAID Alumni Week event. (Class events DO NOT qualify) Overnight stays must be a minimum of two (2) consecutive nights. (i.e. you may board Thursday, Friday & Saturday but NOT Thursday and Saturday). BOOKING COST $35.00 per night, per person Boarders guests (limited to only ONE per celebrating graduate) will be assessed a one-time $8.00 Alumni Week processing fee. Cost includes mini breakfasts beginning Wednesday morning, June 5th through Saturday, June 8th. REPLACEMENT LOST KEYS RANGE FROM $45 - $95 BOARDER CHECK-IN Boarding check-in begins Tuesday, June 4, 2019 from 12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m. Boarders may check-in on Wednesday (6/5), Thursday (6/6) and Friday (6/7) between 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. ROOM ASSIGNMENTS - All room assignments are made by the Alumni Week Planning Committee with the assistance of the respective class representative. - Re-assignment or switching of rooms by individual boarders is NOT allowed. - Single boarders will be paired, as much as possible, with a classmate of the same gender from the same graduating year. - The dorms are co-ed; shared room assignments will be designated to same gender pairs or designated couples only.
