1 New Student Orientation August 20-23, 2018 Pepperdine University DRAFT Parent Schedule Monday, August PM International Student Check-in and Move-in Lovernich Commons Students will receive their orientation materials, take a photo for their ID card, clear any outstanding issues with the Health Center, and then move into their residence. Tuesday, August 21 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM Domestic Student Check-in and Move-in Rho Parking Lot Students will receive orientation materials, take a photo for their ID card, clear any outstanding issues with the Health Center, and then move into their residence. If they are living on campus, resident advisors will be in the hall to greet you and orientation leaders will help students move in their belongings. Noon - 2 PM Lunch Adamson Plaza Please wear your name tag for admission to all meals. 1 and 3 PM Campus Tours Amphitheatre Admission staff will familiarize you with our (flag pole) Malibu campus on a one-hour guided tour. 3-4 PM International Parent Reception Brock House Meet University president Andrew K. Benton and the staff who will be supporting your daughter or son throughout their college career as well as parents of other international students. Shuttles will be available to the Brock House in front of Smothers Theatre. 4-7 PM Dinner Adamson Plaza/Waves Cafe Please wear your name tag for admission to all meals. Learn about student employment, internships, and the power of the Pepperdine network. Seaver College Career Center and Student Employment Staff Keeping our Students Safe and Well Elkins Auditorium Pepperdine cares about students holistically. The vice president and other campus leaders will speak briefly about how we seek to keep students safe and well physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Following that, there will be a time of Q & A, so come with your questions. Note: This presentation will be offered only Session I and II. NCAA compliance, student-athlete medical care and insurance, academic support and game ticketing are among the topics to be discussed. 5-6:30 PM Dinner Joslyn Plaza Connect with your daughter or son during dinner. Feel free to sit in either plaza. Before you eat dinner, family members walk through the Joslyn Plaza food line and then sit together anywhere to go over the day s activities. To ensure seating, please arrive at dinner by the specified time on the back of your name tag. Note: If your daughter or son is a pre-health major, your dinnertime is at 6 PM. 6-7 PM Intercultural Affairs Dessert Reception Fireside Room Join us for a dialogue with staff and student leaders about the numerous opportunities to be involved in intercultural student-led groups. These leaders help to connect, engage, and inspire the Pepperdine campus community in topics surrounding diversity and inclusive excellence. 5 9 AM - Noon Trip to Target Seaver Main Lot Didn t remember everything? No problem. We ll take you on a shuttle to Target to pick up all those last-minute furnishings you forgot. Students are required to be in sessions during this time. Shuttle pick up in front of Smothers Theatre. 9:15-10:30 AM Devotion and Prayer Walk Amphitheatre Put on a comfy pair of shoes and join the Pepperdine community as we cover the campus in prayer with fellow parents, alumni, faculty and staff on a prayer walk. We will begin at the Amphitheatre and walk through campus, commencing at your student s residence hall. For those with limited mobility we will have a stationary gathering point adjacent to the chapel. Parents who were unable to attend the previous International Programs Presentation are welcome to join one of the following student sessions: 10-10:50 and International Programs Presentation Waves Cafe 11-11:50 AM Pepperdine s study abroad program is ranked number one in the nation for participation, and applications for these incredible programs are due within the first three weeks of school.
