All registration fees must be mailed to: VDFP Division II Office at: 471 James Madison Highway, Suite 101, Culpeper, Registration Fee: $30.00 per student (Non-refundable) NO CASH Please make checks payable: Rockingham County Fire and Rescue Registration Deadline: April 8, 2016 The Programs are being presented through the collaborated efforts of Rockingham County - Fire & Emergency Services and the Virginia Department of Fire Programs. *Driver Pumper Operator, Fire Instructor II and Introduction to Technical Rescue Module II courses have additional days.
2 2016 Rockingham Regional Fire School Massanutten Technical Center The Virginia of Fire Programs and Rockingham County Fire and Rescue will conduct the 2016 Regional Fire School the weekend of April 23 rd, and 24 th, Registration: Registration must be submitted online through the VDFP FSTRS. Registration will be through the VDFP FSTRS as a first come, first serve basis. Registration will end April 8, Registration Fee: $30.00 per student. (Non-refundable) The registration fee is required to register. If student does not submit the registration fee, then the student will not be considered registered. If a student registers and submits the fee, then cancels prior to April 1 st or the class your applied for has been cancelled, only then will the registration fee be returned to you by the Rockingham County Fire and Rescue. Please make checks payable: Rockingham County Fire and Rescue, NO CASH Check in: All students must check-in at the Public Safety Building between 07:30 and 08:00. assignment will be provided at check-in. Books: Books will be available at check-in, please bring either check or exact change. Lodging: Student will be responsible for their lodging. Schedule: Classes will begin at 08:30 hours. With the exception of the Driver Pumper Operator and Fire Instructor II class, all other classes will conclude on Sunday, April 24 th.
3 Courses offered: ICS 400 April 23 and 24, 2016 Description: This course is designed for senior agency administrators who are expected to perform in a management capacity in complex, long-term or multi-faceted incidents that may require management using an Area Command or Multi-Agency Coordination Group (MAC Group). The course focuses on management Prerequisites: IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800 and ICS-300 Equip. Req: Full turnout gear required. Departments sending students are strongly encouraged to send apparatus, if possible. Hours: 16 Max Class Size: 24 Standard/Reg: Special Note: This is not a certification course. Students will receive VDFP training hours and a NFA Certificate of Attendance. Driver Pumper Operator Description: Driver/Operator curriculum with detailed instruction on the operation, maintenance and design of pumping fire apparatus. The topics include: Water Supplies for Fire Fighting, Fire Pump Theory, Operating Fire Pumps, and Fire Service Hydraulics. The course requires 48 hours of instruction (100% attendance required for certification), of classroom and practical exercises. A written examination is required and students will be evaluated during the driving exercises. Prerequisites: Firefighter Level I (new) or Firefighter Level II (old), students are encouraged to have some basic knowledge of the operation of fire apparatus. Students must have a valid driver s license and be EVOC certified (minimum of S3). in order to participate in the practical exercises. Students must be 18 years of age (minimum) to receive certification. There is also pre-course work required. Equip. Req: Full turnout gear Hours: 42 Max Class Size: 16 Standard/Reg: NFPA 1002 Note: This course is meets the requirements for Pro Board certification. Fire Instructor II Description: The Instructor II 8 th Edition Certification Course contains 24-hours of student lectures and group activities to include the development and submission of a final Course Project. Prerequisites: Firefighter Level I and II, Hazardous Materials Operations, Fire Instructor I, IS-100, IS-200 and IS-700 and be 18 years of age. Equip. Req: Text Book: IFSTA Fire and Emergency Instructor 8 th Edition Hours: 24 Max Class Size: 16 Standard/Reg: NFPA 1041 Note: This course is meets the requirements for Pro Board certification.
4 Truck Operations April 23 and 24, 2016 Description: This Course is designed to enhance the necessary skills of those firefighters arriving on the fire ground when their Engine Company has been assigned Truck Company Functions. A short classroom presentation will be followed by handson stations to teach tricks of the trade and build on already existing basic fire ground operations to include Forcible Entry, Rescue Mode and VES Primary Searches ahead of the handline, Ventilation Techniques, Breaching and Breaking and more. This extensive hands-on training will teach the firefighter to accomplish the many needed Truck Company Functions with the equipment carried on the Engines, when no Specialty Unit is on scene. Target Audience: Firefighters and Line officers who may be assigned Truck Company Functions when arriving on the fire ground. Those attending should have a good knowledge of basic Firefighter 1 and 2 skills in these areas, as this class will expand on the basic information Prerequisites: Firefighter Level I, Hazardous Materials Operations, IS-100, IS-200 and IS-700 and be 18 years of age. Equip. Req: Structural PPE, SCBA and 1 spare bottle Hours: 16 Standard/Reg: None Special Note: This is not a certification course. Students will receive VDFP training hours and a Certificate of Training. May Day Fire Fighter Down: RIT April 23 and 24, 2016 Description: This 16-hour course is course designed for all members of the fire service from the Chief to the newest member. The mission of this class is to provide training for every member of the team to survive the worst event on the fireground using self-rescue techniques. The following subjects will be covered; two-in/two-out, self-rescue, flashover recognition building construction for firefighter safety, firefighter accountability and other safe fireground skills. Prerequisites: Firefighter Level I, Hazardous Materials Operations and May Day Firefighter Down/Operations. Equip. Req: Full PPE and SCBA with a spare bottle. Hours: 16 Max Class Size: 24 Standard/Reg: None. Special Note: The practical evolutions are very labor intensive and require a high degree of physical fitness. Textbook: VDFP Mayday Firefighter Down Student Guide (current edition).
5 Fire Operations in the Wildland/Urban Interface April 23 and 24, 2016 Description: This is an instructor-led course intended to be presented at the local level. Instructional units include firefighter safety in the interface, managing human factors in the interface, pre-incident planning, size-up and initial strategy, structure triage, structure protection overview, tactics in the interface, tactical operations and resource use in the interface, action assessment, plan update, and after action review. Prerequisites: Junior Firefighters must be Firefighter Level I certified. Target Audience: At the successful completion of this course, students will be able to, operate safely and effectively in a wildland/urban interface incident by using situation awareness, performing structure triage, using pre-planning tools, having a basic understanding of fire behavior, and using strategy and tactics unique to the wildland/urban interface environment. Equip. Req: None Hours: 16 Max Class Size: 24 Standard/Reg: N/A Special Note: This is not a certification course. Students will receive VDFP training hours and a National Wildland Coordinating (NWCG) Group Certificate of Training. Introduction to Technical Rescue Module II April 23, 24, and 30, 2016 Course Description: This course provides a foundation to prepare students for a wide variety of possible rescue operations based on objectives from NFPA 1006 Standard on Technical Rescuer Professional Qualifications, Chapter 5 and the Awareness Level of NFPA 1670 Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents. This 24-hour course is divided into two modules, with an additional 8 hour module for certification testing. Completion of this gateway course is a mandatory pre-requisite for all Virginia Department of Fire Programs Heavy and Technical Rescue courses, regardless if the student is seeking ProBoard certification or not. (Students who have VDFP Rope I as of December 2010 are exempt from this requirement) Prerequisites: Students must be 18 years old, and have completed a Hazardous Materials Operations program. Students must complete ITR Module 1 online prior to registering. IS100, IS200, and IS700 Equipment: Helmet, leather gloves and boots or full turnout gear, secondary eye protection, Class 2 harness.
