6 Weekend One - Friday Courses (March 2, 2018) Course HOURS 6PM ART OF READING SMOKE Instructor: John Smoot Tuition: $30.00 Prerequisite: None Often, smoke from a building is the only clue available to predict fire behavior and the likelihood of a flashover or rapid fire spread. First arriving officers, Incident Commanders, and Safety Officers must know how to rapidly read smoke. This class explains the reading smoke process and gives participants practice using actual fire ground video. Course HOURS 6PM Course HOURS 6PM Course HOURS 6PM FIRE GROUND COMMUNICATIONS Instructor: Brent Burger Tuition: $30.00 Prerequisite: None Fire departments rely on effective communications processes on every alarm. Progress reporting on the fire ground during all phases of operations relays vital information between Incident Commanders and companies operating at the incident. The course will cover Routine, Priority, Urgent, and Mayday messages and key communication elements that need to be conveyed in each of those situations. This class is designed to improve your ability to effectively communicate during incidents using standard terminology and specific concise messages. Multiple scenario driven exercises and short acronym based memory triggers will help you develop your skills. RAPID INTERVENTION TEAM (RIT) AWARENESS Instructor: Darin Virag Tuition: $30.00 Prerequisite: None Program provides an overview of what a Firefighter Assist and Search Team (FAST) is, as a Rapid Intervention Company (RIT). Program reviews NFPA Standard 1561 on Fire Department Incident Management System and NFPA standard 1500 on Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program which focus on why a Rapid Intervention Team is required, Who makes up the (RIT) personnel, establishing a (RIT) unit with written Guidelines, minimum equipment requirements, and table top scenarios using (RIT) teams. SEARCH AND RESCUE INTERVIEWING TECHNIQUES Instructor: Louie Robinson Tuition: $30.00 Prerequisite: None The best way to find a missing person is not to send out an armada of search teams and personnel hoping to find clues, but to place heavy emphasis on the initial investigation and create a course of action that focuses on places the subject would likely be found. Information about your missing person in regards to their habits, mental and physical state, and other useful personal details, as well as potential search locations, can best be obtained from a good investigation. This course will teach you the basics for interviewing and interrogating those who may hold the details needed for a proper search and rescue, as well as how to coordinate with other responding authorities to maximize your use of resources to execute an effective search. Course HOURS 6PM TRAFFIC INCIDENT MANAGEMENT (TIMS) Instructor: Bobby Fisher Tuition: $30.00 Prerequisite: None TIMS - Traffic Incident Management System - consists of a planned and coordinated multi-disciplinary process to detect, respond to, and clear traffic incidents so that traffic flow may be restored as safely and quickly as possible. Effective TIM reduces the duration and impacts of traffic incidents and improves the safety of motorists, crash victims and emergency responders. The TIM Program of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is part of a larger all-hazards program called Emergency Transportation Operations (ETO).
