2 2016 State Weekend Course Offerings 7750 W0610 Wildland Urban Interface Firefighting for the Structural Company Officer This two-day course identifies operational activities and safety concerns for structural Company Officers (COs) assigned to a wildland urban interface (WUI) incident. Topics covered include introduction to WUI firefighting, interface environment, wildland fire behavior, command and control issues of WUI firefighting, and tactics. COs or chief officers who may be in command of a single resource or Strike Team at the scene of a WUI incident W0455 Strategy and Tactics for Initial Company Operations This two-day course is designed to meet the needs of Company Officers (COs) responsible for managing the operations of one or more companies during structural firefighting operations. This course is designed to develop the management skills needed by COs to accomplish assigned tactics at structure fires. Senior firefighters who may at times assume the responsibilities of the CO (National Fire Protection Association 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, Level II) W0761 New Fire Chief 2: Administrative Issues This two-day course is to provide students with the managerial, administrative and leadership skills and awareness necessary for new or recently appointed or elected chiefs to effectively meet their obligations of the position. The primary audience is newly appointed fire chiefs in volunteer, combination or career departments, as well as Emergency Medical Services (EMS) chiefs. The secondary audience is department leaders and current officers who may become fire chiefs, as well as local government administrators and elected officials who are involved in the administration of a fire department or EMS.

3 2016 State Weekend Course Offerings 7752 W0379 Initial Fire Investigation for First Responders This course is designed specifically to provide a clear definition of the role of first responders in arson detection and provide essential knowledge to enable them to recognize the potential of intentionally set fires, preservation and protection of evidence, and proper reporting of information to appropriate officials. By strengthening the partnership between first responders and investigators, the chances for successfully solving arson-related crimes will increase. The course includes topics such as fire behavior, critical observations of the first responder, fire causes, scene security and evidence preservation, legal considerations, and documentation of findings. This course is designed for all fire and emergency services personnel who might conduct preliminary investigations into the origin and cause of fires. Interested students are encouraged to complete "Initial Fire Investigation for First Responders" (Q0379) available through NFA Online at prior to participating in the classroom-based course. Interested students are encouraged to complete Initial Fire Investigation for First Responders (Q0379), available through NFA Online at prior to participating in this classroom-based course W0322 Incident Command System for Structural Collapse Incidents (Course available only during NFA Sponsored State Weekends) W0322 This two-day course is designed to provide fire officers with an understanding of command operations at structural collapse incidents. Students completing this course will be able to: Describe the aspects of a structural collapse. Explain basic command procedures and Incident Command System (ICS) organizational structure. Identify various resource levels, types and capabilities used for structural collapse incidents. Identify critical factors and issues that affect scene management. Describe all unique operational considerations used at a structural collapse incident.

4 2016 State Weekend Course Offerings Describe all response operations phases associated with a structural collapse incident. Describe the technical rescue expertise and equipment required for safe operations and effective incident management. Students attending should understand and be able to apply the ICS concept. Individuals who have statutory authority/responsibility and may serve in a Unified Command structure at a structural collapse; fire command officers W0730 Health and Safety Officer (Revised) This two-day course examines the Health and Safety Officer's role in identifying, evaluating and implementing policy and procedures that affect health and safety aspects for emergency responders. Risk analysis, wellness, and other occupational safety issues will be the main emphasis of this course. Individuals who have department-level health and safety responsibilities. Individuals attending this course should have working knowledge of the Incident Command System as taught by the National Fire Academy, working knowledge of applicable National Fire Protection Association and Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements and recommendations, and responsibility for setting policy for the department on such issues W0522 Executive Skills Series: Exercising Leadership Through Difficult Conversations This two-day course is to provide knowledge and skills for having difficult conversations to exercise leadership in addressing adaptive challenges. The goal of this course is for the participant to identify and apply skills for having difficult conversations as they relate to exercising leadership when addressing adaptive challenges. The primary target audience is fire and emergency service personnel in positions of authority (executive level officers) who have an opportunity to exercise leadership. Note: Participants must be minimally assigned to a supervisory level position (for example, a Company Officer).

5 2016 State Weekend Course Offerings 7754 W0166 EMS Functions in ICS In this two-day course, students will practice use of the Incident Command System (ICS) in coordination with other public safety responders. As a follow-up to ICS-100 and ICS-200 training, this course will present scenarios requiring responders to structure their EMS resources within the guidance of National Incident Management System ICS, as appropriate to the needs of the different incident types. Through simulation and role-playing, students will demonstrate the implementation of EMS components in an ICS at incidents. Emergency response personnel with responsibilities to implement the initial EMS functions of an ICS at incidents. 1. ICS-100-level and ICS-200-level training. Preferred courses are Q0462 and Q0463, available through NFA Online at Chief's signature attests that the applicant has completed this required training. 2. FEMA training providers registration systems and enrollment procedures require a valid FEMA SID. FEMA SID serves as your personal identification number and merges/links/connects/combines all of your FEMA training records under one account to simplify keeping track of your FEMA training accomplishments. You may obtain a SID number at the following web address: Programs are open to all applicants. Early registration is recommended as enrollment in each program is limited to 30 students, unless otherwise noted. Applicants must list three course choices. Weekend Cost: $80. This includes Friday night dinner, three meals Saturday (cookout/social), breakfast and lunch Sunday. National Fire Academy Policy: A student who fails to attend class and did not cancel his/her enrollment will be suspended from attending NFA courses for a period of two years. Travel Arrangements Students must make their own travel arrangements. From S.C., the drive is typically eight to 10 hours. Transportation costs are the responsibility of the student or his/her organization and will not be reimbursed by the National Fire Academy or the S.C. Fire Academy. Please arrive Friday, July 22, 2016 no later than 6 p.m. to check into the dormitory and attend the 7 p.m. orientation session. Air travel can be arranged to either Washington National Airport or Baltimore-Washington International Airport. If flying, students are responsible for providing their own ground transportation to NFA.
