1 10 th Annual Smoky Mountain Weekend Presented by The Sevier County Fire Chiefs Association & The Sevier County Training Officers Association Date: Saturday, March 1, 2008 & Sunday, March 2, 2008 Time: Saturday- Registration 7:00 a.m.-7:45 a.m. Classes 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Sunday- Classes 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Location(s): Sevier County High School, Sevierville TN And other locations as needed due to class demands. Registration forms and class titles are enclosed. Please pay close attention to the registration form. Registration forms received without four class choices for each student will not be processed and will be returned to the department to be completed. The registration deadline is no later than January 18, The number of students is limited in some of the classes, so register as soon as possible (First Come-First Served Basis). This year s Smoky Mountain Weekend also features some specialty classes. These classes are listed on separate forms due to separate registration fees and/or pre-approval requirements. Student fees must be paid in advance and must be sent in with the registration form (Specialty classes have a separate registration fee). Make checks payable to Sevier County Fire Chiefs Association. Continued course offerings are as follows: Class Identification # s 27 Advanced Heavy Rescue 28 Basic Fire Chaplain s Academy This 16-hour basic class fulfills the Basic Chaplain's Academy requirement for Chaplain Certification. The class covers The Emergency Service Worker Personality, Introduction to the Incident Management System, Confidentiality, Chaplain Service Protocols, Emergency Service Funerals, An Introduction to CISM, Chaplain Service Mutual Aid, Chaplain Safety, and Establishing a Support Network. This course is open to all Fire, EMS, & Rescue Chaplains. To be eligible to receive certification as a Fire Chaplain, attendees must be members of Tennessee Federation of Fire Chaplains or must complete membership prior to the conference. However, membership is not required to be able to attend this course. Chaplains must attend from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM both days to complete the course. 29 Confined Space Awareness 30 Downed Aircraft In Your Community 31 Electrical Fundamentals for Fire Investigators Pre-requisites: Tennessee Fire Academy s Basic Origin and Cause Investigation. This course covers basic electrical theory as outlined in NFPA 921 (2004) Chapter 8 and discusses the analysis of electrical systems and equipment. 32 Firefighter Survival: Get Out Alive Pre-requisites: Students must have already completed the Tennessee Fire Academy s 86 hour Basic Fire Fighting and Live Fire Fighting Courses or Equivalent to be eligible to attend this class. 33 Heavy Rescue 34 ICS-300 Intermediate Incident Command System 35 ICS-400 Advanced Incident Command System 36 I.E.D. & WMD Awareness 37 Introduction to Basic Vehicle Rescue - 15 hrs This class involves extreme physical activity! Students must bring their own Personal Protective Equipment. This class will be held at the Pigeon Forge Fire Department. 38 Introduction to Fire Department Pumpers 15 hrs. 39 Low Angle Rope Rescue This class involves extreme physical activity! Students must wear long pants, boots, and gloves. This class will involve classroom and outside hands-on activities. Students will be taught rescue ropes/knots and will apply these techniques during this course. 40 Map & Compass Refresher / Introduction to Track Awareness Students should be physically fit and equipped for a search and rescue field response. Map & Compass: This hands-on workshop will enable the student to become proficient in the basic components of map and compass skills. Introduction to Track Awareness: This course will introduce the skills of tracking-the art of following a trail of an animal or human by reading the signs left behind along their path. 41 Rope Rescue 42 SCBA Duration and SCBA Search & Rescue - 15 hrs. This class involves extreme physical activity! All Students Must Have Their Own SCBA, Spare Cylinder, and Firefighter Protective Clothing! On Sunday, students will travel to a different location. Students must have transportation! 43 Vanessa K. Free & Emergency Vehicle Operations (VFIS) (COURSE SELECTIONS CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE)

Our speakers have presented their topics across the nation. The class is offered to provide Chief Fire Officers with the opportunity to attend a world class seminar without leaving Tennessee and at a reasonable price. The class has been reviewed by the Tennessee Commission on Fire Fighting and approved for 15 hours of Specialized Training Credit for Join your peers at this magnificent conference March 1 & 2, 2008 at the Conference Center at River Plantation in Sevierville, Tennessee. This will be a most rewarding weekend for the fire officers leading departments from across Tennessee. 7 2008 Smoky Mountain Weekend Chief Fire Officer Development Class At The Conference Center at River Plantation 1004 Parkway Sevierville, TN The Conference Center is located at the beautiful River Plantation campground. If you would like to bring the family and come early or stay late, you can contact the campground for reservations at (865) The cost to attend the Chief Officer Development Class is $90.00, which includes lunch on both Saturday and Sunday. Your registration form and money is due by January 18, Postmarks after January 18, 2008 will fall into Late Registration status and be considered on a first-come first-serve basis. 8 Fire Chief Development Program (This class is limited to 125 students) (Cost of this class is $ 90.00) This program will provide a relevant educational advancement for both existing and newly appointed chief officers, as well as their designated second in command in career and volunteer departments across the state. This program is designed to target new and existing chief officers that will most likely serve in a chief officer role in the future. 9 ADVANCED ARSON DETECTION for FIREFIGHTERS and FIRE OFFICERS (This class is limited to 20 students) (Limit 1 attendee per department) (Cost of this class is $ 65.00) Pre-requisites: Arson Detection for the First Responder and be a fire officer responsible for determining the cause of the fire. You must call to get a pre-approval authorization number and include your confirmation number on this registration form. Once you have received a confirmation number, this form along with payment must be received by the Sevier County Fire Chiefs Association within two weeks (14 days). If this form and payment is not received within two weeks (14 days) of you receiving a confirmation number, your reservation in this class will be canceled. Dates of this class are February 29-March 2, Class Hours: Friday- Registration 6:00 p.m. Class 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. Saturday- Class 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Sunday- Class 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Class Description: Fire officers will be able to determine the origin of the fire, and then make the proper classification of the cause and notification of the agency responsible for follow-up investigations in their area. The student will also be able to handle the investigation and scene preservation with a minimum of equipment and manpower. The course addresses the requirements listed in (NFPA 1021, Fire Officers Professional Qualifications, 1997 ed. and NFPA 1001 Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, 1997 ed.) 10 Junior Firefighter and Fire Explorer Program (This class is limited to 30 students) (Cost of this class is $ 30.00) This year we are once again advertising the Junior Firefighter and Fire Explorer Program. We have held this class in the recent past with good success. This program will involve classroom and physical exertion. Students must be at least 15 years of age to participate in this class. Students must bring their own personal protective equipment. A letter from the students sponsoring department must also be sent with this registration form. The letter must be on the department s letterhead and include a statement releasing the Sevier County Fire Chiefs Association and the Sevier County Board of Education from any liability. The letter must include signatures from the Fire Chief, Junior Firefighter or Explorer Program Advisor, and the students Parents. The Fire Chief or Program Advisor must call or to get a pre-approval authorization number and include the number on this registration form.
