1 Course Descriptions S130/190/L180, RN10784 S 190 This course provides instruction in the primary factors affecting the start and spread of wildfire and recognition of potentially hazardous situations. S-190 is typically taught in conjunction with or prior to Firefighter Training, S-130. S 130 This course addresses the foundational skills universal to all wildland firefighters. The material is divided into 12 modules and a instructor-led field day exercise. Each module explains the concepts and skills that will be performed and evaluated on the field day exercise. FIREFIGHTER PART I TASK BOOK SKILLS SIGN OFF 2 nd Signature, RN7796 The class is organized to include Firefighter I Skills required for Task Book sign-off in the following areas: PPE/SCBA, ropes and knots, forcible entry, ladder evolutions, hose loads and evolutions, portable fire extinguishers, overhaul, live fire training, fire-stream operations, and ventilation. NOTE: Students must present written documentation of completion of the following components of Firefighter I: Safety, Fire Behavior, Water Supply, PPC, SCBA, Communications, Ladders, Ventilation, and Hose and Appliances. Documentation should be from a certified instructor attesting that the student has met knowledge components and had hands on training. Full turnout gear is required. A limited number of SCBA are available for use through the college. Students MUST bring their Task Books. Firefighter 1 Live Burn - LIVE FIRE EVOLUTIONS, BFST12738 Students must meet the prerequisites for live fire training per NFPA During this event, students will participate in live burn evolutions. There will two burns on Saturday (8 hrs) and two different burns on Sunday (8 hrs). The evolutions will consist of an exterior Class `A fire, vehicle fire, grade room & content fire and below grade room & content fire. Upon completion of the four live burns, the Firefighter I candidate will have completed four of the six live burns required for Firefighter I certification. NOTE: Students must present written documentation of completion of the following components of Firefighter I: Safety, Fire Behavior, Water Supply, PPC, SCBA, Communications, Ladders, Ventilation, and Hose and Appliance

2 Documentation should be from a certified instructor attesting that the student has met knowledge components and had hands on training (Firefighter I Practical Skills Task Book). Full compliant NFPA turnout gear is required. A limited number of SCBA are available for use through the college. Students MUST bring their Task Books. Hydraulics for Volunteers Fire hydraulics for volunteers, will be course designed to assist the volunteer apparatus operator, pump operator/ driver engineer. This program will be designed for basic friction loss, hose diameter gallons per minute, water supply estimations and applications. This program will involve pulling hand lines, laying supply lines, establishing large diameter hose operations, and exposure lines. This course will give the apparatus operator the confidence and ability to adequately, and properly supply hose-lines operations on the fire ground. This course will involve basic hydraulics, nozzle flow, gallons per minute, and friction loss applications. This 8-hour course will consist majority of hands-on. Extrication for Volunteers, BFST12746 Formalization with tools and safety used in extrication. This class will consist of door and roof removal, different ways for dash displacement, and glass removal. This class will also go over several ways to stabilize vehicles on their side, on the roof and on all four wheels. Hands on practical. Full NFPA compliant turnout gear is required to participate. Tactics for Volunteer Agencies, BFST12628 Tactics for volunteer agencies is an action packed active tactical operation course. Volunteer tactics of staffing power, limited resources, firefighting objectives, and go, and no go situations are the focus of this class. This tactics program will involve windshield size up, the 360 size up of the building or situation, application of two in and two out, hose line applications, nozzle applications, gallons per minute fire flow, and expected outcomes. Fire Fighting with Limited Resources This 8-hour class will discuss issues such as fire control (exterior versus interior), conducting 360 s., mutual aid considerations, flow paths and ventilation control, and pre-planning. Water supply issues will also be discussed and tool usage (multi-use) and which tools can save time and be efficient. There will also be a discussion time to discuss issues faced in today s emergency services. RIT for Volunteers, BFST12633 Rapid intervention team operations for volunteers, is 2 out a RIT team? This course will give the volunteer firefighter practical applications of drags pulls and mechanical advantages to assist in

3 removing a down firefighter or disoriented firefighter from a hazardous condition. This course will involve 2 to 1 mechanical advantages, drags, pulls and application of back up air supply (SCBA). Rural Water Supply Rural water supply will involve drafting, tender operations, water tank operations, tender shuttles, and water supply estimations, tender nursing operations, and what works best for the given situations. This course will team up with the Hydraulics course to provide a water supply. Firefighter Rehab, BFST12730 This is a 4-hour course that will review NFPA Students will setup and function as an actual rehab during the Live Fire Evolutions. Students will review when vital signs should be taken, guidelines for operating a rehab including rehydration and food intake. Cooling and making a decision when a firefighter should not return to operations will be discussed. Information comes from LFTI and FEMA's rehab SOG and instructors will be able to apply this information in their firefighter training. The Fire Chaplaincy What are fire chaplains? What value do they bring to a department? What roles do they play? These and many other questions will be explored during this course. From theory to practice, participants will leave challenged and prepared to bring this valuable position to their departments. This course is open to current chaplains, as well as those considering involvement as a chaplain in the future. This would also be the perfect opportunity for a department exploring the chaplaincy to find out what it is all about. The Human Side of the Fire Service You have the skills. You have the training. You have the experience. But is there something lacking in your preparation to do the job of a firefighter? Everything you do is done in the context of others. How well are you equipped to deal with the people you interact with day in and day out? This course will give you the opportunity to explore how to best care for the various people that you serve including victims, peers, your family and yourself. FFIRS/FCDICE This is a 2-part course. The first course reviews the FFIRS system, the process for entering incident reports, and how to retrieve data necessary for reports and grants. The second course reviews the process for logging into the FCDICE database, updating your profile, requesting course approval and class offering approval, and navigating through the FCDICE database system.

4 Grant Writing/FF Assistance Grant 2018 Volunteer Week at Florida State Fire College During this class a general overview of the components of a well written grant will be reviewed. Discussion of main ideas to be used for grant writing will also be reviewed as well as discussion on where to find grants. Also, Division of Forestry Volunteer Fire Assistance and FEMA (AFG, SAFER, & FPS) will be discussed. The Firefighter Assistance Grant Program has been established to improve the emergency response capability of volunteer fire departments and combination fire departments. Through this program, The Bureau of Fire Standards and Training, Division of the State Fire Marshal shall provide financial assistance to improve firefighter safety and enable such fire departments to provide firefighting, emergency medical, and rescue services to their communities. Topics discussed will be information about this grant, who is eligible, stepping through the grant application process, and other grant opportunities. Structural Collapse Awareness Coordinated response to incidents involving collapsed buildings is essential. Such incidents can be devastating and will challenge any emergency response agency. The information provided in this course will allow students to become familiar with established structural collapse procedures and planning within the State of Florida. This course meets NFPA Standard 1670, "Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Rescue Incidents" and is designated to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond safely to incidents involving structural collapse. Hazardous Materials Operations (Prerequisite Awareness Level) Upon successful completion of this 16-hour course, the responder shall be capable of assessing the basic hazards and risks associated with incident response, determining appropriate protective measures, initiating defensive control operations for which they are properly equipped and providing support functions necessary for any subsequent offensive operations by technician level responders. State Emergency Response Plan (SERP) This course is designed to introduce students to Florida's system, components, benefits, and how the system works. Students will also learn the components and processes for mutual aid and how to run a post incident analysis to assure that needed information is obtained and used to assist with future emergencies. When the Unusual Happens Responders know what to expect when they are dispatched on a shooting or domestic call. However, what should be done if you find a weapon while doing a survey of a patient, or an unconscious patient wakes up and is violent. What a first responder does when confronted with an unusual situation can determine the outcome. A review of different situations will be conducted in terms of what actions the first responder can take using the equipment they have with them or in their surroundings.

5 Company Officer, BFST Volunteer Week at Florida State Fire College Designed to assist fire officers in solving the varied problems and situations they will be required to manage effectively in today's ever-changing fire service. The curriculum includes a review of fire department organization and administration, management theory, leadership, communication, motivation, and small group dynamics. Skills Evaluator Workshop This 4-hour course will discuss the proper approved methods to conduct the skill sign-offs for the Florida Firefighter I Practical Skills Task Book and Skill Sign-offs for the BFST Grow as You Go Online Firefighter I course. Topics to be discussed are required documentation, time-frames required to perform skills, necessary equipment and facilities, and instructor requirements. NFA Incident Command System and Resource Management for the Fire Service This two-day program provides students with an understanding of the Incident Command System (ICS) and resource management for the fire service and their application in both emergency and nonemergency situations. This course addresses the need for an ICS, an overview of the structure and flexibility of ICS, an understanding of the command skills necessary to function effectively in an ICS structure, and the need to effectively manage your resources. This course meets the requirements of ICS-100 and ICS-200.
