2 JBSA-MILITARY & FAMILY READINESS SERVICES Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) Military & Family Readiness (M&FR) is dedicated to providing a full range of quality programs and services that promote self-reliance, mission readiness, resiliency and ease adaptation into the military way of life. RELOCATION ASSISTANCE (210) Reduce or eliminate problems arising due to frequent moves with specialized services such as: individual or group counseling; sponsorship and pre-arrival information; mandatory overseas briefings and post-move orientations; lending closet; and immigration services. LENDING CLOSET Monday-Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Closed 1st & 3rd Thursday 1-4 p.m. The Lending Closet loans basic household goods while yours are in transit; kitchen equipment, high chairs, sleeping mats, irons and more. Permanent party, students, TDY, retirees and civilians may borrow items up to 30 days. Please bring a copy of your orders. NEWCOMER S ORIENTATION Feb 2, 16 & March 2, 16 8 a.m. to Noon This is a mandatory in-processing briefing for all military and civilian personnel newly assigned to JBSA, family members are also encouraged to attend. Service members must coordinate attendance with their Unit Personnel. All patrons must be signed in and seated by 7:50 a.m. This is more than a traditional in-processing briefing. Representatives from agencies throughout the community will be onsite to share information with patrons. IMMIGRATION & CITIZENSHIP Feb 13, 27 & March 13, 27 9 a.m. to Noon Meet with a Citizenship & Immigration Service (USCIS) Officer for assistance with applications. RELOCATION & OVERSEAS ORIENTATION Feb 14 & March 14 9:30-10:30 a.m./ 1:30-2:30 p.m. Mandatory for personnel E-5 and below; topics covered include: entitlement, shipment of household goods, emotional stressors of relocation, employment, and education. Only one session is needed. SPONSORSHIP APPLICATION TRAINING Feb 21 & March p.m. Completion of the Electronic Sponsorship Application & Training (esat) is mandatory for all military sponsors and is available online at A Relocation specialist can assist with questions or provide clarification. TRAILS & TALES GUIDED TOUR Feb 23 & March a.m. Fort Sam Houston houses the largest collection of historic buildings in the Department of Defense! Join us for a guided tour and learn about its rich history. Seating is limited, registration required. Learn how to interpret federal vacancy announcements and become familiar with the USAJOBS website, set notifications about new job postings, and tailor your resume. 6 JBSA-FORT SAM HOUSTON TRANSITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (TAP)/ SOLDIER FOR LIFE JBSA-FSH Soldier for Life, Bldg. 2264, Ste. 102 (210) TAP provides counseling and job assistance to service members preparing to leave the federal service. Services include: pre-separation counseling, benefits, job search training, selfassessment tools, resume review, job analyzer software, and referral to service providers. PRE-SEPARATION COUNSELING Feb 6, 20 & March 6, 20 9 a.m. to Noon Airmen, Sailors, and Marines planning to separate or retire from the federal service must attend this mandatory counseling. Appointments may be scheduled up to 24-months before retirement date or 12-months prior to separation. Training is held at M&FRC, Bldg To register, call Tuesday-Friday 8:30-11:30 a.m. Soldiers planning to separate from the military must attend this mandatory counseling. Appointments may be scheduled up to 24-months prior to retirement or 18-months prior to your separation date. Facilitated by Soldier for Life, bldg TRANSITION GOALS, PLANS, SUCCESS (GPS) Feb 5-9, Feb 12-16, *Feb 26-March 2, March 5-9, 12-16, * a.m. to 5 p.m. A mandatory 5-day workshop for all service members separating from the military. Facilitated by the Department of Labor, Veterans Administration, and M&FRC. This workshop is held in the basement of Bldg Prerequisite: Pre-Separation Counseling. *Retirees only dates. 10 M&FR JBSA-FSH TRANSITION SUMMIT Feb 23 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Service members, veterans, and military spouses are encouraged to join us and connect with employers of every size and industry. The Transition Summit features town hall style panel discussions, industry and career connection workshops, a career fair focused on improving competitive employment for service members, veterans, and spouses, in addition to a networking reception. This event is held at the M&FRC. Learn about resources that support the Veteran s Employment Program, skills translator, resume builders, and more. HIRING HEROES CAREER FAIR JBSA-FORT SAM HOUSTON SAM HOUSTON COMMUNITY CENTER March 21 9AM-2PM Connect with federal agencies and private sector firms to learn about career opportunities for wounded, ill, injured and transitioning service members, Veterans, military spouses, and primary caregivers. For more information, call (571) or (210) CAREER TECHNICAL TRAINING March a.m. to 5 p.m. Learn about civilian careers that require a license or certificate, identify schools and accredited institutions, financial aid, VA benefits, apprenticeships and more. Prerequisite: Transition GPS. MILITARY & FAMILY LIFE COUNSELORS (MFLC) (210) or Military & Family Life Counselors help service members, their families, and significant others in addressing issues from deployment and reintegration, marriage and relationships, stress and anxiety, depression, grief and loss, and other daily life issues. MILITARY CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP Feb 13 & March 13 9:30-11:30 a.m. Caregivers have the opportunity to build a support network, share experiences, and information. This group meets at the Solider & Family Assistance Center (SFAC) Meeting Room. For more information, call (210) PERSONAL FINANCIAL COUNSELOR Personal Financial Counselors provide free financial counseling services to Service Members and their Families. Consultations are anonymous with no records kept. Some evening and weekend availability. To schedule a consultation, call (210) EXCEPTIONAL FAMILY MEMBER PROGRAM (210) EFMP is a mandatory enrollment program that assists service members and their families with special, physical, emotional, developmental, or intellectual needs. EFMP works with military and civilian agencies to provide comprehensive and coordinated medical, educational, housing, community support, and personnel services. Call to register. Parental Rights Feb 14 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Region 20 Education Services will assist parents in understanding their rights within the Special Education process from evaluations to graduation.
