Happy Spring! Some of you may have orders to new duty stations or may be transitioning out of the military. Others face deployments or are anticipating homecoming. No matter what lies ahead, life in the military is always full of change and to help Service members and their families adapt and adjust, the Fleet & Family Support Center (FFSC) proudly offers a wide range of informational resources. This quarterly publication lists upcoming FFSC programs and workshops, which are also presented by special request to commands and family groups. We offer some services in one-on-one consultation particularly for challenging relocation issues. Also, FFSC assists with deployment planning, and provides support throughout that deployment through our Ombudsman Program, various workshops and counseling services. We can also assist your command and families in preparing for a happy homecoming. Additionally, FFSC s accredited financial counselors (AFC's) deliver expertise on budgeting, investing, and many more important financial issues. Our Career Services staff is available to assist with resume writing, finding federal employment and navigating the job search process, to include the Transition Goals, Planning Success (TGPS) Program. Also, we feature several of our more popular workshops via webinar so that you can attend from wherever suits your needs. These workshops include Parenting Tips, Car Buying and Leasing and Space-A Travel. April: Awareness & Appreciation Each April, the entire U.S. Navy joins the worldwide campaign for Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAPM). The campaign's goal is to stop the myths surrounding sexual assault and to raise awareness that sexual assault affects us all. FFSC will present and support a number of community events on our various installations. Visit our web page ( and our Facebook ( or contact your installation's Fleet & Family Support Center to learn about events like the SAPR Cup and SAPR 5K Run/ Walk. Navy families experience multiple, unique stressors. These include deployments, relocation, financial hardships and lack of adequate social support. For some parents, these stressful situations can lead to child abuse. FFSC offers New Parent Support Home Visitors, Parenting workshops and counseling services to assist. We also offer a wide variety of Life Skills programs like anger management, stress management and effective communication. Take time to thank them for their sacrifices and let them know they re appreciated and supported. 5 DEPLOYMENT SUPPORT FFSC provides commands, Sailors, spouses and families with every facet of deployment support. These programs are available by request, and can be brought to commands or Family Readiness Groups/family events: Pre-Deployment Readiness and Resiliency briefs Thriving During Deployment workshops for individuals and groups Love Long Distance: long distance communication workshop and care package activities for children Command return and reunion program for returning deployers Homecoming workshop for family groups Homecoming day support resource tables Homecoming and reintegration support Departure and/or homecoming day FFSC resource tables Command Individual Augmentee Coordinator (CIAC) support Consultations for Individual Augmentees (IAs) and families Mobilization & de-mobilization briefs for reserve personnel Additionally, private one-on-one consultations are available to Sailors and/or spouses. EXCEPTIONAL FAMILY MEMBER PROGRAM (EFMP) EFMP liaisons deliver information, resources and support for families with special needs. EFMP Family Connection This monthly event is for EFM families that offer fun and unique opportunities to meet others, share information, discuss helpful resources, and provide support to each other. 6 INDIVIDUAL AUGMENTEE (IA) DEPLOYMENT SUPPORT FFSC provides customized information and referral services, which support the unique needs of Individual Augmentee (IA) Sailors and their families throughout the IA deployment process. IA Family Connection Join Families of IA Sailors in a safe, comfortable environment for conversation, support, information and resources about the IA deployment process. You are eligible for this program if single or married active duty, or an eligible family member. This program is for you if you can access services at a military medical treatment facility, you are expecting your first child, or your family includes a child under the age of four. NPSHVs also provide special support to active duty, expectant mothers to help prepare them for maternity leave and parenthood while active duty. Car Buying and Leasing Strategies If you re thinking of buying or leasing, this workshop can help make your dream car a reality! Develop the knowledge and skills to thoroughly research a purchase or lease. Learn to ask the right questions during the process, and practice negotiation techniques to get a great deal. 11 SEXUAL ASSAULT PREVENTION & RESPONSE (SAPR) Registration is mandatory for all classes. Contact your command SARC for next available training SAPR Victim Advocate (VA) Initial Training The SAPR VA provides critical support and response to victims of sexual assault. This mandatory training provides command-appointed VAs with the necessary information to support, inform and empower victims. Prior to attending this training, all SAPR VA candidates must successfully complete a screening interview. Space is limited, so don t wait to reserve your quota. SAPR Vctim Advocate (VA) Continuing Education Training Credentialed Victim Advocates must complete 32 hours of refresher training every two years to maintain credentials and receive the latest SAPR program updates. SAPR Unit POC Training The Unit SAPR POC training is designed to prepare Service members how best to execute the SAPR Program within their command. Sailors will learn how to provide oversight of command compliance SAPR program requirements, maintain current information on victim resources, facilitate SAPR trainings at the command and ensure that all members of the unit have received proper training. This training helps Unit SAPR POCs feel supported and ready to implement the SAPR program and help prevent sexual assault. SAPR Unit POC Quarterly Refresher Meeting After basic training, SAPR Unit POCs are encouraged to attend quarterly refresher meetings to stay updated on policy changes, available resources, and the SAPR Program. In addition to ensuring the above duties are assigned and the appointed Sailors receive required training, all Commanding Officers (CO) must schedule a SAPR CO s Toolkit within (30) days of assuming command. FFSC Sexual Assault Response Coordinators (SARCs) coordinate this toolkit, and can also support commands with SAPR briefs at command training, INDOCs, and other events.
