1 Veteran Event Talking Points Prudential s support for the military and Veterans dates back to the founding of the company more than 139 years ago and remains strong today. The challenges of the Veteran community have changed over time, but Prudential s commitment to finding solutions is unwavering. We help Veterans transition to the civilian workforce and we also devote time and resources to a variety of organizations dedicated to enriching the lives of Veterans and their loved ones. To formalize our support, Prudential created the Office of Veterans Initiatives in 2010 to coordinate veterans-targeted programs across the enterprise and to share best practices with our corporate peers. Also in 2010, The Prudential Military Veterans Network (VETNET) business resource group was created to provide an opportunity for all associates, veterans, reservists, and veteran supporters, to support the veteran community internally and externally. Veterans are a crucial element of Prudential s diversity recruiting program - they bring highly desirable leadership skills to the workforce: commitment, discipline, ability to perform under extremely stressful situations, and a solid work ethic. A focus on veteran recruiting is not just the right thing to do... it also makes good business sense and is integral to our talent strategy. It is our mission that our Veterans Initiatives become a model for successful programs at companies across the U.S. Prudential is also committed to engaging our associates and hiring managers with insight and education about the challenges Veterans face and the value they can bring to the workplace. 2 Prudential s Veteran Programs focus on five key areas: Education/Employment Providing access to quality education, job training, and employment opportunities for service members and Veterans transitioning to civilian life. Active recruitment and development of IT talent through community outreach to Veterans. Lead sponsor of the Workforce Opportunity Services VETalent program, a non-profit organization that provides education and career opportunities to Veterans through a unique work/study curriculum. To date, Prudential has sponsored more than 130 Veterans through this program. In 2014, Prudential opened a business center near Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, that provides quality job opportunities to Veterans and military spouses. More than half of the more than 130 associates in El Paso are Veterans or spouses of active duty service members. Employee Engagement: VETNET gives associates, Veterans, reservists, and Veteran supporters opportunities to help support the veteran community internally and externally. Provides insight and education about Veteran challenges Identifies value that Veterans bring to workplace Assists in the recruitment of Veteran talent Supports professional development and facilitates a mentoring program for all associates Promotes the professional development of Veterans by offering resume writing and interview preparation workshops to those transitioning to the civilian workforce. Thought Leadership: Partnering with other organizations to increase the body of knowledge about Veterans issues and barriers to employment. We share our programs and best practices with other companies to help extend the impact of helping service members transition from the military to the civilian workforce. Corporate Giving Supporting nonprofit organizations that help create positive outcomes for transitioning Veterans and support for their families. Since 2011 Prudential has donated more than $15 million and countless volunteer hours to non-profit organizations supporting Veterans, including: More than $2 million to the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) Sponsorship and participation in the National Veterans Summer and Winter Sports Clinics Participation in VA Medical Center beautification efforts Partnering with United Service Organizations (USO) to host day of service events for active duty military Veteran and Military Business Support Helping Veterans, service members, and their families achieve financial security through financial education and readiness programs. 4 Military Job Titles: Sometimes military job titles are vastly different from what one might expect in the civilian world, you can use online search tool to locate potential military job titles that could transfer well in the civilian job market. Use these jobs titles while sourcing for military or veteran type talent. Veteran Organizations: There are many military veteran organizations and associations today that are useful for finding and hiring veterans. The following list is a good place to start: WoundedWarriorProject USWoundedSoldiers PurpleHeart SoldiersAngels Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Use Google Maps to find more results for local organizations for military veterans nearby. Universities for Vets: The National Association of Veterans Upward Bound (NAVUB) allows users to search for Veteran University programs across the US by state. This particular resource is useful for identifying which universities across the US will likely have higher populations of veteran grads. For Internal Use Only 4
5 RallyPoint Military Professional Network RallyPoint is an online social community for both current and former military members where civilians can connect and interact. Veteran s History Project The Veteran s History project is an online database full of military veteran profiles for all the major branches of the U.S. military. Conduct simple keyword searches using this tool to generate names of military veterans with specific skills. Recruitmilitary.com Talent Acquisition Managers have access to recruitmilitary.com and can pull candidates with matching criteria. LinkedIn Military EA search In search bar enter the following: Insurance, Military, and the city you are interested in searching. For Internal Use Only 5
6 Military Lunch and Learn Work with your territory DTAD for approval to use Diversity funds to support the event. Step 1: Identify FP s or FPA s in house with military background and ask them to be your presenter at your Lunch and Learn event as well as utilizing their connections to invite potential candidates to the event. Step 2: Use the Military sourcing Guide to search for potential candidates with military background to invite. Step 3: Identify event location and discuss menu. (Event could be held in office) Step 4: Room set up should be with round tables place FP or FPA with military background at each table. Step 5: Use military talking points for presentation.
