1 JOB DESCRIPTION LOCATION: Little Steps Day Care Ltd JOB TITLE: RESPONSIBLE TO: Nursery Manager and/or Deputy Nursery Manager The role of the is to work with the Management and nursery team and other s to promote, encourage and cascade good practice throughout the setting and to be a role model and mentor to fellow team members. The Senior Nursery Practitioner s key responsibilities include: Marketing Support the Manager in maintaining positive links and effectively promote the facility within the local Community. Effectively communicate information to prospective customers and to provide guidance, support and reassurance to new customers. Communication and working in partnership with families and carers to facilitate and support children s learning. Care and Education To support the implementation of the curriculum in line with the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), Ofsted registration and inspection criteria. Responsible for organising and developing the nursery learning environment and resources in order to facilitate the learning process. To take responsibility for one or more of the following areas and ensure that all knowledge and information relating to their area of responsibility is kept up to date: Effective delivery of EYFS, Behaviour management, Equal opportunities, Partnership working, To disseminate relevant information from their area of responsibility to the whole team Maintaining and meeting requirements for the planning, observation, assessment and recording of children s development. Ensure parents/carers are kept fully informed and included in record keeping, monitoring and reviewing the progress of their child. Establish and maintain relationships with the children to facilitate their learning and develop and maintain relationships with parents and carers to further support the children. Interacting with and supporting children to foster enthusiasm for learning. Promote the use of informed observation and other strategies to monitor children s activity, development and progress systematically and carefully and to use this information to inform, plan and improve practice and provision.

2 Support practitioners to prepare and use a range of resources suitable for children s ages, interests and abilities taking into account of diversity and promoting equality and inclusion. Promote children s rights, equality, inclusion and anti-discriminatory practice in all aspects of the setting. Actively support the development of children s language and communication skills. Maintain a positive and proactive culture amongst practitioners in being able to identify and support children whose progress, development or well-being is affected by changes or difficulties in their personal circumstances, ensuring team members know when to refer them to colleagues for specialist support. Under the guidance of the setting engage actively with local schools and Early Years Settings. Promote equality of opportunity and positive behaviour management strategies. Set a visible leadership example to staff, children and their families, and the wider community. Personnel To ensure their base room is providing high quality care and education, and that they are providing a role model for less experienced team members by following best practice at all times. Support and supervise team members with their day to day duties, meeting the needs of parents, children and families, managing behaviour and adhering to the setting s policies and procedures. To support staff in monitoring the quality and effectiveness of provision to include the tracking and progress of the children. Encourage other practitioners to have high expectations of all children and to demonstrate commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full potential. Work with other Room Leaders also implementing the EYFS curriculum to ensure a consistent approach. Training To provide induction and on-going training by way of mentoring, and where applicable, team meetings. To support team member s professional development in order to further develop service. Provide support to students completing training placements within the setting. Finance Support the Nursery Manager in deploying people and resources efficiently and effectively. Facilities Ensure efficient and effective use of available resources reflecting diversity. To ensure the premises, garden and equipment are well maintained and meet Health and Safety/EYFS requirements. Health and Safety Completion of risk assessments. Quality Assurance Together with the Manager, operate a programme of internal audits to identify and follow a nursery development plan agreed with the senior management team. To support the aims and objectives of the nursery development plan and assist the Manager in the organisation of a high quality establishment, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the nursery on a day to day basis. To be fully conversant with all policies, practices and procedures abide by them. Be dedicated to achieve targets set for improvement of quality of care and education. The duties of the Room Leader are in addition to those of the Nursery Practitioner and are available on request. This post is classed as having a high degree of contact with children and is exempt from the Rehabilitation

Good IT skills, specifically Microsoft Outlook, Word, Access and Excel. Ability to assess and record children s progress using a range of observation methods Have excellent organisational and time management skills. Education & Minimum N.V.Q. 3 in Childcare Educated to Degree level in Early Years or

4 Qualifications and Education or equivalent. equivalent certificates GSCE English and Maths A-C Evidence of further recent and relevant training or qualifications. E.g: Paediatric first aid child protection food hygiene Knowledge Sound knowledge of: The EYFS An understanding of the Bedfordshire Child Protection and Safeguarding Procedures Interview Ofsted regulations and inspection criteria Understanding of supporting children with SEND Child development for 0-5 year olds How to provide inclusive practice Demonstrate an up to date knowledge of current thinking in developments in early years. Have an awareness of Health & Safety legislation and Equal Opportunities Experience Experience in a childcare setting Experience of planning based on observations of children s attainment.
