1 Role Profile Role purpose: Reporting to the Training and Development Manager, to provide clinical skills training and development opportunities to nursing and social care staff across a variety of sites owned by the trust and to external organisations as and when requested. To coordinate work placements and student training working with the local universities and the Trust nursing homes. Hours of work: Required hours will be stated on the job advert and will vary according to our needs and sites, however flexibility required to cover training for teams who work 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
2 Duties 1. Contributing to the training and development team and assessment centre team through the design and delivery of training and development opportunities that support the clinical needs of residents and service users who live in a social care setting. 2. Provide and support opportunities for the professional development of nursing and care staff who undertake a range of clinical duties such as administering medication; maintaining and monitoring PEG feeds; wound care: venepuncture; and catheterisation. 3. Work-based assessment of staff undertaking health and social care qualifications. Initially for Levels 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care, with the possibility of assessing for Leadership & Management of Care Service Awards and Level 4 in Health and Social Care, or other qualifications as necessary and dependent on occupational competence. 4. Coordination and set up of a student nursing programme link with UWE. Main Tasks 1. To contribute to the professional development of staff acknowledging their needs at induction, mandatory training and PREP requirements and continuing professional development. 2. To undertake the planning, organisation, delivery and update of workshops and training courses focusing on clinical skills and moving and handling of people, across a variety of locations. 3. To deliver other training workshops/courses, commensurate with own skills and in agreement with the Training and Development Manager. 4. To support Care Home Managers and care home teams in the development of nursing professionals within their teams by observing competence for nurses returning to practice, student nurses and preceptors. 5. To evaluate the effectiveness of the training and development provided, and make improvements as necessary and agreed with the Training and Development Manager. 6. Undertake workplace assessment duties within the organisation s assessment centre as appropriate. 7. Be prepared to verify workplace assessments in order to quality assure the training and development opportunities provided. 8. To ensure that all clinical training and delivery facilitates the needs of residents and service within a social model of care, supporting and guiding the provision of personal nursing care and in line with the objectives of the St Monica Trust. 9. To understand the wide ranging needs of older people, including the potential impact of both physical and mental health conditions, including dementia, and how such needs should be taken into account whilst providing clinical /nursing care. 10. To liaise with managers, nursing and therapy staff employed by St Monica Trust in order to maintain and promote up to date standards of health and social care delivered by a multi-disciplinary team.

Taking responsibility for the continuous updating of personal and professional skills and development, to ensure that own practice is within the legal and ethical framework as established by the NMC and national legislation, including the Health & Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and Fundamental Standards to ensure residents and service users interests and wellbeing are met. 12. Collaborating positively with managers and administrative staff to achieve effective staff development, and quality practice activities. 13. Making a positive contribution to training and development, HRD and training teams, attending and participating in team meetings. 14. Delivering training to other external organisations representing St Monica Trust. 15. Building a link and relationship with local universities to enable us to have work place opportunities for new staff. Specifically working with UWE to set up, formalise and coordinate a student nursing programme link. 16. Working in partnership with external organisations such as UWE, St Peters Hospice, NHS, etc. to arrange and deliver nurse training. 17. Facilitating learning networks between nurses across the Trust. 18. Working within the policies and procedures of St Monica Trust. 19. Undertaking any other reasonable duties which are commensurate with the post.

Qualifications Essential Desirable Registered General Nurse (with valid NMC registration PIN) Teaching/training qualification such as Preparing to teach in the lifelong Learning Sector(PTLS) or equivalent or Training and Development NVQ level 3 or above D32, D33, D34 or A1/A2 Learning & Development qualification level 2/3 Facilitating learning and assessing in practice (FLAP) level 2 or 3 module or equivalent Full and valid driving licence (with own transport) Membership of the Institute for Learning or a willingness to join
5 Experience Essential Desirable At least three years working in an appropriate health or social care environment Managing and/or supervising health or social care staff Designing, delivering, updating and evaluating workshops/training on a variety of topics Providing clinical education in relation to clinical skills such as venepuncture, skin integrity, PEG feeding, catheterisation, administration of medication Knowledge Essential Desirable Current social care and nursing standards and relevant legislation Workplace assessment e.g. FLAP /NVQ assessment The needs of older people and people with physical and/or learning disabilities, including a knowledge of dementia, and how to support the well-being of older people with a wide range of conditions. The social model of disability, and how to apply this to the delivery of clinical skills in a nursing home environment Learning styles and different methods of training delivery Methods of training evaluation and how to update training following evaluation in order to improve delivery and effectiveness Latest clinical practice relating to areas such as venepuncture, skin integrity, wound dressing, PEG feeding, catheterisation etc.as practised in a nursing home Guidance and best practice relating to the training and development of staff in the health and social care sector Additional information Duties must be carried out in compliance with St Monica Trust s Equality and Diversity Opportunities Policy. There will from time to time be a variation of duties depending on residents and units needs.
