1 JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: DIRECTORATE: DEPARTMENT: Cardiac Physiologist Adult Care Pathways Cardiology BAND: Band 5 RESPONSIBLE TO: ACCOUNTABLE TO: Principal Cardiac Physiologist Business Manager for Cardiology JOB SUMMARY To work in co-operation with the Principal Cardiac Physiologist and Cardiology Consultants, as part of the team that provides a timely, efficient, high quality, equitable and cost effective Cardiology Technical Service to Croydon Health Services NHS Trust. Undertake, without supervision, specialist cardiac clinical physiology diagnostic non-invasive procedures. Undertake, when appropriate and under supervision, haemodynamic monitoring during angiograms and PCI procedures. Provide training and support to other junior staff..main DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Clinical Practice To deliver expert care to patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures attending Croydon University Hospital, Purley Hospital and in the community. To perform independently all non-invasive procedures and be able to supervise and teach basic non-invasive cardiac clinical physiology procedures working to the standards set by the professional bodies i.e. The Society for Cardiological Science and Technology (SCST), Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP), The British Cardiac Society (BCS), and its affiliated organizations e.g. British Heart Rhythm Society (BHRS) and the British Society of Echocardiography (BSE). To undertake clinical procedures on neonates, children and adults. To provide training and support to undergraduate and other junior staff members. To develop and expand within the role by showing a commitment to learning and thus meeting the clinical needs of the department. To be aware of own limitations and development needs and actively seek to address these with support from more senior staff.

2 To communicate sensitively with patients and carers at times when understanding and level of co-operation may be compromised by age, disability or illness. Liaise with colleagues and other healthcare staff at all levels, within Croydon Health Services, across the NHS and private healthcare organisations to ensure clinical and other relevant information is communicated effectively. Review requests for procedures and advise clinicians on the appropriateness of such requests. Prioritise requests according to clinical/social need and department resources. Respond promptly and appropriately to cardiac/ cardio pulmonary arrest and other life threatening scenarios. Be proficient in the use of the department databases CVIS, Xcelera and other integrated archiving systems. Keep accurate, legible and timely documentation. To be flexible and willing to assist in all areas of cardiac physiology e.g. at times of sickness or increased workload. Managerial Help manage and supervise stock control to ensure sufficient supplies and budgetary compliance. Ensure that medical equipment is maintained in a safe, clean and operational condition and liaise with companies regarding new equipment, service contracts, and maintenance visits when required. To adhere to Trust, Directorate and Departmental policies, protocols and guidelines. Pay careful attention to Trust and departmental security and encourage others to do likewise. Undertake such other duties appropriate to the grade as may be delegated by the Head of Cardiac Clinical Physiology Services. Personal Development To contribute to the continuing development of professional Cardiac Physiology practice within the department, embracing new ideas and changes for the benefit of patient care. To demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development and ensure the Trusts mandatory Core Skills Training is undertaken in a timely manner. To attend relevant courses and conferences and keep abreast of developments in all areas of Cardiology. Further develop and broaden knowledge and experience by CPD and maintain CPD and accreditation where necessary.

3 To take responsibility for own personal and professional growth and for maintaining a record of professional development experiences. The post holder is required to work at all times within the boundaries of competence. To adhere to the Trust Infection Control Policy, procedures and guidelines, and in particular practice strict hand hygiene at all times while carrying out clinical duties, in line with the responsibilities placed on employees by the Health Act 2006: Code of Practice for the prevention and control of healthcare associated infections (HCAIs). The prevention and control of HCAIs must be embedded into everyday clinical practice and applied consistently. 7. All clinical staff hold responsibility for ensuring they have sound knowledge of standard infection control precautions and that no omission on their part or within the sphere of their responsibility is detrimental to the interests or safety of their patients, visitors and colleagues. Clinical staff must keep their infection control knowledge and skills up to date by attending the Trust s mandatory infection control training, a record of which will be kept and information provided to line managers as required. 8. To comply with the Trust s Safe Guarding Children and Vulnerable Adults policies, procedures and protocols. All individual members of staff (paid or unpaid) have a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults This will require you to:
