While standing on the victory podium with their Olympic medals, he and John Carlos raised a clenched fist, covered in a black leather glove in a historic stand for human rights, liberation, and solidarity. Tommie Smith became a human rights spokesman, activist, and symbol of African American pride. He has dedicated his to be a champion for the cause of oppressed people. Space is limited. Reservation Required: Sign up at Co-Rec Membership Desk 8pm Trivia Night Pappy s PMU Get a team of 4-6 people together to answer trivia questions for great prizes. Donation Competition information 1st Place organization will receive a $100 gift card to the Union. 2nd place organization will receive a $75 gift card to the Union. Winners will be judged by overall points collected at the three philanthropy drives (blood drive, food drive, soap and towel drive) For participating in the blood drive every person who checks in as part of an organization will earn their team 3pts. Every item donated to either the food drive or the blood drive will receive: 2pts for larger soap/towel/larger canned food 1pt for small/medium sized item The blood drive will take place on Tuesday in the STEW bike lanes. The soap and towel and food drive will take place on Wednesday, drop off will be at memorial mall. Please refer to the 360 Facebook page on detailed list of items that can be donated as well as how to register to participate in the blood drive. 4

13 Event: Dr. David Schneer on Paragraph 175 and the Nazi Persecution of Gays and Lesbians Date: Saturday, April 6th Location: Krannert Auditorium Time: 6pm Description: By the 1920 s, Berlin had become known as a queer Eden, where gay men and lesbians lived relatively open lives amidst an exciting subculture of artists and intellectuals. With the coming to power of the Nazis, all this changed. Between 1933 and ,000 men were arrested for homosexuality under Paragraph 175, the sodomy provision of the German penal code dating back to Some were imprisoned, others were sent to concentration camps. Of the latter, only about 4,000 survived. Dr. David Shneer holds a PhD from the University of California-Berkeley and has been called a taboo-breaking scholar researching Jewish society, culture, and Jews and sexuality. He is the author of Queer Jews, a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award, and has lectured about the Nazi persecution of gays and lesbians during World War II as well as LGBTQ lives in the years following the war. Join us for a screening of the award winning documentary Paragraph 175 with comments and conversation facilitated by Dr. David Shneer.
