1 From the Desk of the City Manager On Tuesday afternoon, at the request of members of the New Image Task Force including Rita Gambardella, Kim Longmire and Clive Taylor along with Terry Cantrell from the Hollywood Lakes Association, we held a meeting with the group, District 1 Commission Case and a number of staff to discuss issues ranging from Downtown redevelopment to code enforcement to conditions and improvement plans for Federal Highway. We also discussed the successes of our Police Department in reducing crime in the area, as well as storm debris removal and plans for the Hollywood Beach Golf Course. It was a good discussion and allowed us to provide information and background on several important issues. We appreciate the interest of this group over the years in supporting improvements along the Federal Highway Corridor and Downtown Hollywood. On Wednesday I joined Coral Springs Vice Mayor Dan Daley and host Frank Loconto at the BECON TV studios in Davie to tape a future episode of CountyLine, BECON s public policy and education program that is broadcast statewide. The topic of discussion focused mainly on Hurricane Irma recovery but also included other City-related issues including area infrastructure. The CountyLine talk show provides in-depth information and analysis on national, state and local issues of import. BECON broadcasts educational and instructional programs on WBEC-TV, channels 63 on AT&T U-verse, Direct TV, dish Network, and Channel 19 on Comcast. The episode is scheduled to air within the next two weeks. I will keep you posted on the exact broadcast schedule as soon as it is published. Progress continues on Hurricane Irma debris removal. Over 60 hauling crews are working seven days a week and have removed over 200,000 of the estimated 350, ,000 cubic yards of storm debris. Collections continue to take place curbside while additional crews work to clear alleyways of hangers, leaners and other hazards. It is important to note that crews working in alleyways may leave the debris they have cut down for the collection crews operating specialized equipment who are following close behind. My thanks to the many people in the Department of Public Works who are working tirelessly on recovery in the City. One of those hard working individuals, Assistant Public Works Director Karen Arndt, is moving on to a new opportunity with Miami-Dade County. We wish Karen the best of luck in her new endeavor and thank her for her many years of service to the residents of Hollywood. 1
2 From the Desk of the City Manager (continued) While we say good bye to Karen we welcome Cintya Ramos who has been named the new Finance Director for the City. Cintya comes to Hollywood by way of Miami Beach where she was responsible for their $605 million dollar operating budget. Prior to Miami Beach, she spent six years with the City of Philadelphia in Budget and Finance. Join me in congratulating Cintya who begins with the City on Monday, November 6 th. 2
