3 GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS MESSAGE FROM DEAN YAMAMOTO FIRST YEAR DIAGNOSTIC EXAMIN A TION Any first year student who did not take the writing diagnostic examination given during orientation must do so as soon as possible. Please contact Esther Martinez in the Dean's Suite (2nd floor of the Burns Building) to make necessary arrangement. STUDENT HANDBOOKS The Student Handbooks continue to be distributed by the Registrar's Office from 10:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m, Monday through Thursday and until 4:00 p.m. on Friday or the Information Center temporarily located in the Dean's Suite from 5:00 p.m. _ 10:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. All students (including transfer and visiting students) must pick up a copy of the Handbook. Students are responsible for reading the Handbook and keeping it for reference during the year. Due to a printing error, page 73 of the Student Handbook was deleted. The contents are printed in their entirety on the last page" of this issue of the Bulletin. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS" The Weekly Schedule of Events (first page of the SBA News Bulletin) is prepared on the Wednesday before Monday publication. Please make your request for room reserva tions no la ter than 10:00 a.m., Wednesdays. All special requests such as additional chairs, podiums, tables, and guest parking should be made at this time WOMEN'S MEETING LAW ASSOCIATION The Women's Law Association will meet on Thrusday, September 10 in Room 5 from Noon to 1:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m, to 6:00 p.m. This meeting is specially held for the first year students but all student are welcomed. EVENING SBA ANNOUNCEMENTS Parking The evening SBA is currently addressing the parking problem with special emphasis on the "evening male students' parking before. 5:00 p.m." issue. We are working with the School Administration to solve this problem by the end of this week. Any comments should be directed to the a tten tion of Sharon Robinson, 2nd year evening representative and chairman of Ad Hoc Committee on Parking. Page 2 SBA Committee Membership Sign-Ups A sign-up sheet and a brief description of Evening SBA Committees will be posted on the door of the SBA Office this week. Volunteers - Get Involved. Fourth Year Evening Representatives The Evening SBA is currently seeking two fourth year students to become Fourth Year SBA Representatives. These officers are voting members on the SEA and will have direct involvement in fourth year issues, e.g. Graduation, Barrister Ball, Bar Exam Preparation. Interested students contact James Thompson, President at or Terri Herrington, Vice President at or attend the next Evening SBA Meeting. Evening SBA Meeting A meeting of the Evening SBA will be held on Wednesday, September 9 at 5:00 p.m. in Classroom 4. GAY & LESBIAN LAW STUDENTS CORRECTION! The number to call for information about our first meeting.is (818) , not (818) 584-5"747. Please call so we can get this year's exciting events underway. ENTERTAINMENT LAW SOCIETY MEETING. The Entertainment La w Society will hold its first meeting on September 14 at 12 Noon in the Entertainment Law Office located next to the SBA Office on the first floor of the Burns Building. Please bring your lunches. We welcome non-members to attend and join the Society. STUDENTS WITH CHILDREN SUPPORT GROUP LUNCHEON Students with Children Support Group will hold a Brown Bag Luncheon on Thursday, September 10 from 12 Noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Casassa Room loca ted on the third floor of the Burns Building. Come and join this group discussion on coping with dual parent/student roles. Please bring your lunches. FEDERALIST SOCIETY MEETING. The Federalist Society will hold an organizational meeting on Thursday, September 10 at 12 Noon in Classroom 4. All students interested in current constitutional and public policy issues, please attend.

Stop by anytime - we are in the Rains Building and our entrance is on the patio. Your fees went to pay for these volumes, so be sure to get your copies! AMNESTY MEETING INTERNATIONAL Amnesty International will be holding a planning meeting on Wednesday, September 9 at 3: 15 p.m, in Merrifield Hall. A video about Amnesty's work will be shown at this meeting. All students, faculty and stiff are welcome to attend. INTERNATIONAL LAW SOCIETY GOALS & ACTIVITIES * To increase the interest in, and an understanding and recognition of the principles of cornpara ti v e and in terna tional law. * To promote the study of public and private international law. * To contribute to the establishment of the effective implementa tion of interna tional la w by increasing the interest and understanding of it. * To inform those students intending to pursue careers and further educa tion in international law of the opportunities a va ila ble to them. * To provide a series of guest speakers on a variety of international law topics. * To promote the establishment of a program of International Legal Studies at Loyola Law School. * To create a Summer Study Abroad Program run by Loyola La w School. The International Law Society's activities include Symposia on International problems, and a Forum Series on Career Opportunities in International Law, as well as on Summer Abroad Programs. There arc also fun ("cosmopolitan") parties where you have a chance to meet multilingual and multifaceted people. And last, but definitely NOT least, we organize "internationally f'la vored" potlucks. Now that you know about us, please keep an eye on the Bulletin for our upcoming events, and come join us -- you are welcome to participate in our activities. CHRISTIAN LEGAL SOCIETY BIBLE STUDY The Christian Legal Society's weekly Bible study meets Wednesdays from 12:15 p.m. _ 12:55 p.m. in the Campus Ministry Office located on the first floor of the Burns Building, outside, just west of the Chapel. All interested students are invited to attend. Feel free to bring your lunch. Our Bible studies focus on making our faith relevant to our law school cd uca tion. Come enjoy the fellowship, Support and encouragement. ON CAMPUS PROGRAM COUNSELING Georgea Muschcl, our stress reduction specialist, will be available for drop-in appointments on Tuesday evening, September 8 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m, If you want some helpful tools for managing anxiety and stress, stop by Room 115 in the Library or dial Ext CAREER PLANNING PLACEMENT NOTICE. REGARDING SUB1'vIlSSION OF RESUIVIES TO FALL OCI EIVIPLOYERS: Please be advised that if resumes submitted for the Fall On-Campus Interview Program are found to be in violation of the policies regarding display of grade/rank/g.p.a. information for the period of August 27- September 11, employers to whom resumes are sent will be notified that grade information on such resumes does not conform to policy. Students must correct resumes immediately and send a corrected copy to those employers who ha ve already received them. Employers will also be advised that they may call such students regarding grade inf orrna tion, if they so choose. In order to submit resumes for remaining employers students must submit corrected resumes to the Career Planning and Placement Center: 10 copies to student file and one to each employer envelope which contains an incorrect resume. Students must notify Center staff when they submit corrected resumes, After Friday, September 11, resumes which do not conform to policy will be pulled and students will be suspended from resume submission until the grade information has been corrected. & If you have any questions regarding this matter please contact the Director Or Associa te Director. The FCC, after a long period of not hiring, is reviewing resumes for interviews to be held in Los Angeles on Friday, September 18. If you are interested in submitting a resume, please drop one off in the Placement Center before Wednesda Y. September 9. OCI GENERAL TNFORl\IATTON: Materials are still available for pick-up in the Career Planning and Placement Center. Please read the policies section beginning on Page 5; it contains important information. - Resumes are due at 10 a.m. on each deadline date throughout OCr. - Due to the papal visit, all firms scheduled on September 15 have been changed to September 14. Friday's hours have been. changed to 10:30 AM-4 PM (an exception will be made for any 10 a.m. resume deadlines on Fridays only). INTEREST LAW CONFERENCE FOR STUDENTS We are now accepting names of second-year students who are interested in attending this conference in Washington D.C. on October 9-1l. 6 P. Housing search: Loyola Law School provides the following resources to assist a student in a housing 1. Short -term housing: In close proximity to the campus are a number of low cost hotels and motels in which one may stay while looking for permanent housing. 2. Counseling: Staff members are available to talk with students about the various areas of the city and what one may reasonably expect. 3. Newspaper Library: A library of many regional and local newspapers, updated weekly, is maintained for reference purposes. <.} 4. Real Estate Agents: A listing is available of agents in many different parts of the city who have agreed to help students locate rental housing. Fees are paid by the landlord. 5. Rental Agencies: A listing of agencies and professional roommate -ref'erral services is maiiitained; these agencies generally charge a flat fee for providing lists of openings for a particular period of time. 6. Roommate Referral Service: Listings of students who desire to share housing with other students are maintained by tue Law School. This includes both those who have housing they wish to share, and those who wish to find someone with whom to seek shared housing. In addition, a listing of a limited number of housing vacancies in the immediate vicinity of the Law School is available for students to consult. Students wishing to use any of the services listed above, should contact.susan._ Shepard or Craig Reynolds in the Dean's Office (ext. 1156) or Rhonda Tartaglio in the Information Center for the Roommate Referral Service (ext. 1001). Q. Identification Cards Each entering student is issued an identification card. The card, which is issued. in the Fall semester, is to be used throughout a student's attendance at the Law School. The identification card is necessary for many transactions at the Law School including the checking out of library books and the charging of materials purchased from Campus Graphics. R. Identitication Validation Card An identification validation card will be issued for each term for which a student is registered. The validation card must be used in conjunction with the identification card as proof of current attendance at the Law School. S. Lockers Lockers are available to students in the Student Lounge, located "Onthe first floor of the Burns Building. Locker size is 12" x 15" x 24". 73
