If you have an item or a service that you or your business would be willing to donate, please let Mark know at the church office. UNITY SERVICE On Sunday, February 4 at 2:00 p.m., is the Worship Service of Christian Unity event. This happens every year and rotates through all the congregations in Sheldon. This year the service takes place at the Sheldon United Methodist Church with leadership from as many local clergy as are available. ARTICLE FROM PASTOR CRAIG Ash Wednesday is February 14 this year, and so we begin the season of Lent. With that in mind I selected the following article for your consideration. It was written by the editor of a long-running Lutheran periodical which encourages discussion across Lutheran denominations. The current editor and those before have tended to argue for Lutheran distinctiveness, purity in doctrine, and traditional practices grounded in orthodox Lutheran theology. That's why his take on congregational confession was especially interesting to me, as it seems to break from this trend. But does it? At least he asks an important question about things we routinely say in worship, whether or not the confession of sin conveys the Lutheran ideas correctly. Lent is a season of humility and repentance, intended for self-reflection. But it's always in sight of the cross and knowledge of the resurrection, so it is never about despair but hope and faith for new life. And that new life is not only beyond death, but at work now, as the Spirit indwells and animates those whose lives are now faith in Christ. ~ Pastor Craig
