1 CAIRO COURIER MEMBER NORTHEAST SHRINE EDITORS ASSOCIATION 51 Washington Street Rutland, VT Phone (802) Fax (802) website: Volume 8, Issue 5 March 2018 Potentate Wayne Sheppard & Lady Christine It is with great pride this 2018 the gavel has been placed in my hands. As we look around the process that started with the outer guard position and progressed for all those years (8) while gaining knowledge, support, relationships and guidance. We worked hard in those years while steering forward so the progress would prevail. We will in 2018 keep guiding, crafting, the platform we stand, the level, the work, the fun. As we cruise into 2018 with great expectations it is great to have the noticeable immediate team effort which plays in the big picture. The total focus for this great time is nobles, units, clubs, families, ladies and everyone s ideas that are crucial to Cairo Shrine success. While working on these events, planning the structure and creating enjoyment it is great to know there is a solid team within. With this being stated that is the heart of crafting our destiny and it starts with the nobility with all the glory while building the road to the Shriners Hospital s for children. Nobles, units, clubs, ladies, families, friends and relatives all support this great philanthropy and Shriners footprint. Having fun, supporting everyone s interests and ideas while moving in the direction that benefits all. There are many plans for the Centers events which is listed on the previously mailed event calendar and reinforced in this courier with greater depth. Whenever possible please attend the events as I assure you they will be grand, exciting and interesting. We are planning on help from all sides collectively to have a successful, pleasurable filled year while building our membership. When everyone is having fun it flows over, people notice and want some of that positive feeling. Keep the fun in the Cairo Country!!!

10 Mini Car Notes Our unit lost Past Commander Len Rathbun to the Black Camel. Len was a mainstay in our unit for many years and he will be sorely missed. Our present Commander, John Lafond took Len s Mustang Mini Car to the wake. Our unit had a good presence there. Our thoughts go out to Mary and Len s five boys and their families. It is always a challenge to fine things to write about. We enjoyed our January winter get together at the Wheel Inn. We had fifteen in attendance and everyone had a good time. Justin Lafond was scheduled to leave for Oklahoma to continue his pilot training just after our get together but the temporary government shutdown put this on hold. He has since traveled to Oklahoma and is doing well. Our snowbirds, Chris and Mary Goddard were scheduled to leave two days after our winter banquet. They should be back shortly after this goes to print. Joanne and I, Kristi and Sharon Morris traveled to Auburn Main to spend a weekend with our counterparts from Kora. David and Jane Lidstone were gracious hosts and the visit was fun. Since then we hosted David and Jane and Kristi and Sharon for a weekend at our house. It was the coldest weekend of the winter so we basically vegged and enjoyed the company. This is an aspect about being in the Shrine that I love. We would never have met many wonderful people without traveling many parts of the country for events. I will put on my treasurers Fez for moment to report that Cairo Shriners had over $100,000 dollars donated to Shriners Hospitals for Children in their name. That number does not include donations from units or form the Brattleboro Shrine Club. Spring is coming, Bruce Please contact Dick Cooke for any issues or questions for the Shriners Hospitals.
