2 48 th Annual The Washington and Greene Counties Tourism Promotion Agencies invite you to take part in a celebration of their rich histories and beautiful countrysides during the 48th Annual Washington & Greene Counties Covered Bridge Festival presented by EQT. Each of the 10 festival locations offer a charming atmosphere and an array of activities including handmade arts and crafts, homestyle foods, historical re-enactments, crafting demonstrations and delightful entertainment. Held the third weekend in September each year, the Covered Bridge Festival is regarded as a signature event in the area and the official start to the Fall season. McKinney s Triple M Market is close to the bridge area. The public is invited to visit this 275-acre outdoor museum featuring a 19th century living history village with a oneroom school, blacksmith shop, church, log houses and the Pine Bank Covered Bridge. This covered bridge, built in 1871, is the oldest surviving bridge in the southwestern corner of PA and was fully rehabilitated this year including repairs made to the timberframed Kingpost truss. In addition to the 19th century village, also visit the museum s recreated 16th century Indian village to see what life was like in Western PA before European settlement; a recreated 18th century frontier trading post and Indian cabin; an exhibit about the barns of Western PA; as well as exhibits of horse-drawn vehicles and equipment, harness racing memorabilia and historic regional photographs. Do not miss the worldrenowned Meadowcroft Rockshelter National Historic Landmark, a prehistoric campsite that dates back 16,000 years (admission ticket required). The museum s visitor center includes restrooms and a gift shop. A picnic area and pavilion are also located on the grounds. Live musical performance will take place throughout the day in Meadowcroft s historic 1870 Fairview Church. Tom Crytzer and Tiffany Apan, dressed in period fashions, will perform historical tunes that date from the American civil war.
