1 ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY, INCORPORATED Omicron Omega Chapter Birmingham, Alabama Minutes of the General Meeting-Saturday, March 21, 2015 Trinity Baptist Church 900 Graymont Avenue West Birmingham, Alabama Soror Gwendolyn Tilghman, Basileus Soror Fatima Carter, Grammateus The meeting was called to order at 10:03 a.m. by Soror Gwendolyn Tilghman. Soror Jacqueline Carter gave the meditation which was taken from Galatians 5:22. The subject of the meditation was kindness. Soror Marshell Jackson, Philacter, confirmed a quorum. The agenda was approved by common consent with one change. Soror Angelia Strode did the Anti-Epistoleus report in the place of Soror Miranda Robinson. A motion to accept the February 21, 2015 general meeting minutes was made by Soror Fatima Carter and approved by common consent. Executive Board Recommendations: 1. The Executive Board recommended that the Merrill Lynch Money Market account be transferred from Omicron Omega to the Cultural and Educational Advancement Foundation, Inc. (CEAF) account. Motion by Soror Angelia Strode to accept the recommendation and seconded by Soror Donna Turner. Motion passed. 2. The Executive Board recommended that the $300 annual Building Fund Assessment be assessed for an additional two years, , beginning January 2016 and ending The Executive Board recommended that Omicron Omega's Bylaws be amended to reflect that transferring/reactivating sorors be assessed $1500 for the Building Fund assessment effective immediately. The assessment can be paid in full or $300 increments over 5 years due by December 31st each year. Sorors will also be responsible for the Foundation's annual dues. Sorors must satisfy the Building Fund assessment upon transferring into the Omicron Omega Chapter. This includes sorors transferring from General Membership, Boule, or another chapter. Note: Soror Tammy Fincher moved and it was seconded by Soror Terricetta McCall to table recommendation #2 and #3 in order for additional research and information to be obtained and presented to the chapter at a later time. The motion passed. 4. The Executive Board recommended the Music Committee be allotted a budget of $500. Motion by Soror Dorothy Wilson to accept the recommendation and seconded by Soror Angelia Strode. Motion passed. Officers Reports: Basileus Report-Soror Gwendolyn Tilghman Omicron Omega was well represented at the Selma Jubilee celebration on March 8, Thanks to the AKA Connection Committee Chairman, Mona Jackson and Co-Chairman, Wardine Alexander. A special thanks to Soror Pauline Parker for organizing a great trip and coordinating the event along with other committee members. Omicron Omega had 3 buses filled with sorors, family members, and friends. Several sorors received tickets to the Hill Harper red carpet reception and attended the concert on March 8, 2015 on behalf of Omicron Omega. More than 50 members of Omicron Omega attended the 83 rd South Eastern Regional Conference in Memphis, Tennessee, March 12-16, Soror Annie Bushelon Holt was honored as a Golden Soror. Soror Juandalynn Givan was honored as a Silver Star. Soror Armigene Skipwith was awarded the Omicron Omega s Golden Soror of the Year Award. Additional information regarding the Regional Conference will be provided during the report given by Soror Nan Baldwin. The Savannah C. Jones Endowment was established at the 83 rd South Eastern Regional Conference. The

2 endowment is in its first phase and will capitalize when it reaches $20, Thanks to the sorors of Omicron Omega who made donations to the endowment campaign of $1, Sorors may continue to support the endowment by making a donation to the Educational Advancement Foundation (EAF). The following sorors were certified or recertified as graduate advisors: Gwendolyn Tilghman, Dorothy Wilson, Fatima Carter, Susanne Mathews, Tina Minor, Terricetta McCall, Marilyn Vertison, Brandi Duncan Walker, and Angelia Strode. Cherie Dortch and Glenita Chandler were recertified as financial officers. Congratulations to Soror Geraldine Bell who has been invited by the Supreme Basileus to serve on the committee to write the 8 th Edition of Alpha Kappa Alpha History. I attended the Founders Day Reception along with Soror Thedora Fancher and Dorothy Wilson on February 13, 2015 for Alpha Phi Alpha (Lambda Chapter). The National President, Mr. Tillman, was the guest speaker. Omicron Omega purchased an ad for the Founders Day program. Several sorors were in attendance at the A. G. Gaston Conference. Gennia Baldwin worked with Bob Dickerson to ensure that Omicron Omega was listed as a sponsor. Our Joint Founders Day was very successful at Miles College. Omicron Omega, Upsilon Eta Omega, Phi Iota Omega, and Psi Xi Omega planned Rededication and a play together. The play was entitled: Our Story: The Legacy of Alpha Kappa Alpha. Soror Deborah K. Thomas directed the play. Hodegos Report-Soror Angela Day Illnesses: (1) Soror LaShonna Stodghill's mother, Katie Ross, had surgery on March 16, 2015, at Princeton Hospital and is recovering well. (2)Soror Sophia Juzang's brother, Walter Watson, Jr., suffered a stroke and is at UAB Hospital in the ICU. (3) Soror Patricia Bowman's husband, Robert Bowman, recently had surgery at VA hospital. (4) On March 4, 2015, Soror Cecily Chaney was the victim of a hit and run accident. She received treatment at UAB Hospital and is now recovering at home. Congratulations: (1) The UAB School of Education has named Associate Professor Tonya Perry, Ph.D., as the new director for the UAB Center for Urban Education (CUE). Dr. Tonya Perry says she plans to continue the work of the previous director, Dr. Loder-Jackson, by encouraging community involvement and collaborations between the Center and urban schools in the Birmingham metro area. (2) Congratulations to Soror Karolyn Perry, Theta Sigma, daughter of Soror Dr. Tonya Perry for receiving the Legacy Award at the Regional Conference in Memphis. Philacter Report-Soror Marshell Jackson There were 80 members and 3 guest sorors present at the meeting. A Nurturing the Ivy Presentation was conducted by Soror Robin Williams. Flowers were given to the following sorors: Richardine Covington (Golden Soror) and Dorothy Wilson (Silver Star). 83rd South Eastern Regional Conference Report- Soror Nan Baldwin

3 Soror Nan Baldwin gave a PowerPoint presentation regarding the highlights of the 83 rd South Eastern Regional Conference in Memphis, Tennessee, March 12-16, A copy of the report will be attached to the minutes of this meeting. Financial Officer Reports: Tamiouchos Report-Soror Cherie Dortch Report for February 2015 General Fund Account Balance Brought Forward as of 1/31/15 $40, Cleared Transactions as of 2/27/15 $2, Reconciled Balance as of 2/27/15 $38, Outstanding Transactions as of 2/27/15 $3, Registered Balance as of 2/27/15 $35, Money Market Account Opening Balance as of 1/31/15 $169, Cleared Transactions as of 2/27/15 $4.34 Ending Balance as of 2/27/15 $169, Note: Soror Cherie Dortch collected $2, for the March of Dimes in the name of Omicron Omega. She received a certificate and a medal on behalf of the chapter from the March of Dimes. Committee Reports: Trustees-Soror Felita Watkins Soror Felita Watkins present a PowerPoint presentation regarding the land acquisition and proposed construction of the facility. A copy of the PowerPoint presentation is included with these minutes. Soror Felita then asked Soror Michelle Clemon to address the chapter regarding the separation of duties and obligations of officers under Omicron Omega and CEAF. Soror Michelle is an attorney with a background in both corporate and non-profit settings. Soror Michelle suggested that the Bylaws of Omicron Omega and CEAF be revised to establish clear boundaries for the organizations. Omicron Omega and CEAF must operate as separate entities. Currently the Bylaws of Omicron Omega and CEAF overlap and conflict with each other. It was also suggested that the organizational structure of both organizations be reviewed and the necessary changes be made to the Bylaws of Omicron Omega and CEAF. The Compliance Guidelines provided by the Former Supreme Basileus Caroline House Stewart should be used to make the necessary changes. The purchase of property must be done through the foundation. Financial institutions and other companies working with CEAF regarding all aspects of the property purchase need to know exactly which organization they will be working with. After a brief discussion, recommendation #2 and #3 referenced above were tabled. (Please see recommendations listed above.) Fundraising-Soror Gennia Baldwin The 2015 Fundraising event, Pink & Pearls Soiree (The ALL White Affair), will take place on Friday, August 28, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Harbert Center Atrium and Terrance. Entertainment will be provided by Dwight On Purpose Live Band. Each soror will be accessed $ (8 tickets at $20.00). The soror that sells the most tickets will have her local dues and per capita paid. The second place winner will have her local dues paid. A soror must sell a minimum of 15 tickets ($300.00) to be eligible for the incentive. The deadline to turn in all money is Tuesday, August 18th, 2015 at Trinity Baptist Church. Soror are asked to confirm their guest attending the event so the committee can provide an accurate number to the caterer. The committee is also requesting in-kind donations of at least $25.00.

4 The sponsorship levels are as follows: small business level $ includes 2 tickets and $ includes 4 tickets; corporate level $ includes 4 tickets. Program Report-Soror Nanette Baldwin ((1) The Program Committee will meet on Thursday, March 26, 2015, at Trinity Baptist Church (Conference Room) at 6:00 p.m. All Committee Chairs and Co-Chairs should attend. We especially encourage the Committee Chairs and Co-Chairs of the five LNDS program targets to attend. We will discuss upcoming activities to ensure that committees are collaborating with each other and that the activities planned support the new targets. (2) Volunteers are needed to staff our table at the UAB Earth Day event, which will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2015, 11:30 a.m. - 1: 00 p.m. on the campus of UAB. This activity supports the Environmental Ownership program target. We will pass out literature about recycling and waste management. A sign-up sheet is available for sorors who are interested in volunteering for an hour at this event. Box lunch will be available for $10. (3) The next Community Impact Day will be on May 16, It is 1908 Playground Day. The purpose of Community Impact Days is a day of service, where all chapters around the world are focused on the same thing and do some type of service project on the same day. We are working to adopt one of the city s community parks. This is being coordinated by the Environmental Ownership Committee, Soror Danielle Crawford and Soror Linda Holmes. Details will be presented soon. (4) The Graduate/Undergraduate Relations Committee will have a conference call on Thursday, March 26, Details will be placed on the weekly e-bulletin and Soror Stephanie Millsap and Soror Brandi Duncan will send a notice to all members of the committee. (5) AKA Day at the State Capitol will be held on April 23, This activity is coordinated by the AKA Connection Committee. Please contact Soror Mona Jackson for details. (6) Nurturing the Ivy A Kind Act presentation. Small gifts will be given to various members for their leadership on service projects, as a show of appreciation for their hard work. The following sorors will be recognized: Pink Goes Red Community Impact Day Soror Lois Scott; AKA Joint Founders Day Activities Soror Ronda Bell; Bloody Sunday Trip to Selma Sorors Mona Jackson and Pauline Parker; ASCEND Program Launch Soror Marsha Savage; and Iota Phi Chapter 40th Anniversary Coordination Soror Gennia Baldwin. Family Strengthening-Soror Rhonda Allen The Family Strengthening Committee met on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at 4:30 p.m. and Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at 8:00 p.m. via conference call. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the upcoming partnership with Project Homeless Connect, which is scheduled for Saturday, April 11, 2015 from 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Boutwell Auditorium. Project Homeless Connect (PHC) is an annual event that emphasizes service to homeless individuals in the spirit of hospitality. At PHC, community volunteers, homeless service providers, and local businesses come together to remove the barriers of homelessness on one day, in one place. To ensure another successful partnership with Project Homeless Connect: (1) Volunteers are needed to assist attendees with an opportunity to access various services that will be available (e.g., housing, medical services, identification services, veterans' services, employment services, pet care, haircuts, etc.). (2) Sorors from Omicron Omega and undergraduate chapters are asked to volunteer in 4.5-hour shifts that begin at 7:15 a.m. (3) There are 6 time slots available throughout the day. The attire for the event is AKA paraphernalia and comfortable shoes. The PR Committee includes eight sorors currently for social media, taking photos, and writing. Please complete request form at least a month in advance and to Soror Leah at Leah@evisionLLC.net. Here are a few events the PR Committee has covered this year: January sorority meeting: Launching New Dimensions MLK Day of Service; Pink Goes Red: Health Seminar at Jeffco Dept. of Health; A. G.

5 Gaston Empowerment Conference; Joint Birmingham Area Founders' Day at Miles College; Blood Sunday Commemoration Trip to Selma; and Congresswoman Terri Sewell s Ladies Of Power Luncheon. Recent media submissions include the following: Ivy Leaf (90th Anniversary), The Birmingham Times (MLK Day of Service, NYE, 90th Anniversary), and Al.com (NYE Scholarship Gala). When taking pictures please be mindful of the physical positioning (leadership and committee chairs) and what's in the background. Make sure there are no compromising pictures. Remember photos may be used on social media and chapter website! Membership-Soror Jennifer Gilbert The Membership Committee is working hard to Nurture the Ivy by developing various initiatives for reclamation and retention. The committee met on Wednesday, February 11th and conducted a conference call on Monday, March 2nd. The current membership in Omicron Omega is 173 sorors. This number includes 6 reactivations, 3 transfers, and 4 undergraduate transfers. At the end of February 2014, there were 198 active sorors in Omicron Omega. During the past month, several personal s have been sent and phone calls made to sorors who transferred or reactivated in 2014 and are not currently active in We want these sorors to know that we genuinely miss them in Omicron Omega and encourage them to join us. To assist in reclaiming and retaining our pearls, the committee along with the Sisterly Relations Committee has scheduled a reclamation event Dance Your Way Back to AKA. This fun-filled event will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the JCCEO auditorium from 11:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m. The event will be a Zumba and line dancing class. In addition to the dancing, sorors will play games and participate in ice breaker activities and have an opportunity to win prizes. Light refreshments will also be provided. The committee extends a special thank you to those sorors who assisted in making personal contacts with sorors in an effort to reclaim them. The Membership Committee greatly appreciates your efforts and we welcome your ideas and support as we continue to Nurture the Ivy. Environmental Ownership-Soror Danielle Crawford This report was included with the Program Report provided by Soror Nan Baldwin. Undergraduate Updates: Gamma Pi (Miles College)-Soror Kena Byrd The members of the Great Gamma Pi chapter have participated in the following activities: (1) February 19 Pillow Talk about Mental Health (2) February 21-The chapter hosted Rush. Forty-one (41) candidates were approved for membership. MIP is scheduled for March 29 - April 12, The Final Commitment Ceremony will be held at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Hoover, Alabama. (3) February 23-HBCU Talent show where students and sorors displayed their talent. (4) Thirty (30) sorors registered and attended Regional Conference; and (5) March 16-Pie Your Favorite AKA/Alpha raised $92.50 for the March of Dimes. New membership presentation is scheduled for April 17, Omicron Mu (Samford University)-Soror Tina Minor There are currently twelve spectacular sorors on the campus of Samford University, enthusiastically Launching New Dimensions of Service. Omicron Mu had six (6) members to attend the 83rd South Eastern Regional Conference. Soror Alexis Crutchfield received an academic achievement award at Regional Conference for having a GPA of 4.0. Recent Events: (1) Pink Goes Red members handed out heart healthy tips to students on campus in the cafeteria. (2) Omicron Mu assisted the sorors of Omicron Omega with the ASCEND program (02/28/2015). Sorors participated in a mini fashion show, presented an informational workshop on UNESCO United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, and donated items for the Bunny Aid service project sponsored by Hands on Birmingham. (3) Omicron Mu made a monetary donation to Community Food Bank of Central Alabama as part of Target Three Family Strengthening-Childhood hunger Initiative. Upcoming Events: (1) Samford Gives

6 Back day of community service that is campus-wide. Sorors along with other students will participate in a clean-up project at Red Mountain Park (04/18/2015). (2) Crop Hunger Walk (04/19/2015). Iota Phi (University of Alabama Birmingham)-Soror Dorothy Wilson reporting for Soror Susanne Matthews Recent Activities: (1) March 4th and 11th the sorors gave sweets to those who contributed to their school supplies drive. (2) March 7th sorors coordinated and participated in the UAB service project Into the Streets (3) March 8th several sorors participated in the Bloody Sunday Commemoration in Selma, Alabama. (4) During the South Eastern Regional Conference, the sorors tied with Theta Sigma for the Alabama Exemplary Chapter Award. They won the Johnella Martin NAACP Award and were recognized for Platinum Level for EAF donation. Soror Candra Long was recognized for previous semester GPA 4.0 and overall 4.0 GPA. (5) March 19th sorors took donations of toiletries for Project Homeless Connect. (6) New member presentation is scheduled for April 17th at Doubletree Hotel on 20th Street and 8th Avenue. The tickets are $5.00. It starts at 7:08 p.m. Mu Mu (University of Montevallo)-A report was not received. Announcements: 1. Soror Dathia Means of the Music Committee thanked the chapter for the Executive Board recommendation of $ for the committee. 2. ASCEND is having an event today at 1:00 p.m. at Carver High School. 3. Tickets for the Scholarship Luncheon are available to be purchased. Please see any member of the Scholarship Committee. The event will take place on Sunday, May 3 at the Birmingham Crossplex. 4.
