We hope that you ve had a wonderful holiday season with your families. It s hard to believe that we are almost into 2017 and what an exciting year it s going to be for the State of Mississippi as we celebrate our 200-year history. Our State Conference Theme will be Celebrating the Bicentennial of Mississippi, The Twentieth Star State. We are so fortunate that we will have Mark Henry, the Governor s Representative to the Bicentennial Celebration Commission, bring remarks on Opening Night at the 111th State Conference to share a bit of Mississippi s early history and the many Bicentennial opportunities. Our special Conference guests will be: Charlotte Reynolds, State Regent of Tennessee; Zora Ollson, State Regent of Louisiana; Nancy Folk, State Regent of Alabama; and Susan Thomas, NSDAR Vice President General, National Membership Committee Chairman and Honorary State Regent of Tennessee. We all celebrated the news that our newest Honorary State Regent, Billie Foutch Breedlove, had been elected Vice President General at the 125th Continental Congress and you welcomed her so graciously at each district meeting. Indeed, it was such an honor to be on the Platform with Billie and Hellen Polk, our First Vice Regent, as we were each installed. We have worked diligently to make the most of your time at Conference. There are many changes in the times and dates of events as well as new additions and deletions to our schedule, so please read the Conference Schedule very carefully. Thursday has been turned over to our Clubs and they have been given more time to accomplish their business. Our Memorial Service has been moved to Friday morning immediately following the Friday Morning Business Session in Salon A. Then we will be recessed for the Patriots Luncheon. We are so honored that Governor Phil Bryant is scheduled to be our speaker for the luncheon and we know that it will make for an exciting day for our youth winners to have the Governor present when they receive their awards. As always, please extend invitations to any active or retired members of the military you wish to honor as a Patriot during the luncheon. If you will send Jennifer Miller their names by January 20th, she will have a Certificate for their service as well. These youth winners deserve our special attention, so please plan to have your chapter s winner(s) attend this luncheon. We want each and every winner attendee recognized so please let the State Committee Chairman of your winner know their name by Feb. 1st, so that they can be presented a Certificate that day. The most significant change will be the addition of a timely Friday Afternoon Business Session from 2-3:30 p.m. This will be our final business session. We will conclude our reports and vote on our Bylaw changes during that session. Friday Evening s Dinner will include our chapter awards presentation, introduction of our regents, and the crowning of Rosalie Rose. As we promised you this summer, conference days are for business and nights are for awards and fun fun! Our final conference event will be an exciting Wow! addition, a Saturday Morning Breakfast and Brainstorming Session from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. I cannot wait for you to attend! We hope that you will all plan on attending this first state conference of the McNamara Administration as we honor DAR, through our service to our country, our communities and in our personal lives. God bless each of you and I wish you the very best in the coming New Year. Yours in DAR Service, Cynthia McNamara State Regent

2 Issue #: [Date] REPORT OF THE ROSALIE GOVERNING BOARD CHAIRMAN Dear Mississippi Daughters, There were over one hundred and seventy Mississippi Daughters registered for the activities of Rosalie Day on October 20, A Candlelight Tour and Reception was held in the house on the evening preceding Rosalie Day with over one hundred and three Daughters and guests enjoying the delicious food, wonderful fellowship and tour of the home. God is so good! Rosalie Day dawned with the sun shining and a gentle breeze blowing from the Mississippi River. One hundred and forty-five Mississippi Daughters were able to enjoy refreshments provided by the two Natchez Chapters as they toured the home, the gardens the Gift Shop. Appreciation is expressed to the Natchez Chapter, Julie Kendall Regent, and the William Dunbar Chapter, Annette McMullen Regent, for the hospitality and kindness shown to all of the Daughters attending. The highlight of the day occurred as the Mississippi Daughters were gathering under the oak trees on the front lawn ten minutes before the meeting when the U S Navy Blue Angels flew directly over the city of Natchez! They were en route to Texas and did this as a salute to Natchez during the three hundredth year birthday celebration. Nine of the twelve Rosalie Rose Contestants were introduced during the meeting. Bluffs and Bayous, a regional publication in Natchez, covered the event. A group photo and individual photos of each nominee were taken. A special presentation was made to Cindy McNamara, State Regent, of the 1817 Twentieth Star scarf designed by guests Nina Akin and Carolyn Vaughan, who traveled from North Carolina to Rosalie. Books were donated to the library by the following chapters: Ashmead Chapter, Chickasawhay Chapter, Old Robinson Road Chapter, Rebecca Cravat Chapter, Third Arrow Chapter, Twentieth Star Chapter, Walter Leake Chapter, and the Yazoo Chapter. Dresses and hoop skirts were donated by the following chapters: Chickasawhay Chapter, Iklanna Chapter, and Twentieth Star Chapter. Dolor Sit Amet Vice President General and Honorary State Regent Billie Breedlove gave a beautiful and touching tribute in memory of Rebecca Lamb for her dedication and love of Rosalie and the DAR. The Rosalie Rose Contest was Rebecca Lamb s idea and the Bookeeper s new office was dedicated to Rebecca s memory. Rebecca s entire family was present for the memorial ceremony and they were recognized as part of the program. The Chief Red Jacket Chapter won the silver bowl with nine members present. Donna Russell, The Friends of Rosalie Chairman, reminded everyone that the funds from this program help to pay the day-to-day operations of Rosalie. Members can pay all at one time or pay monthly. Contact Donna at donna.russell45@gmail.com. Honorariums and Memorials donated on Rosalie Day to the HVAC replacement in the new kitchen of the Carriage House, the Garden Fund, the Furnishing Fund, Friends of Rosalie, the State Regent s Project and the Love Donation for Robert are greatly appreciated. On a sad note, our Head Gardner, Robert Watson, who has been with us for over forty years, has retired. Thank you for your generous Love Donation for him. The total came to $1.043 and his face lit up when I presented that to him. We thank Robert for his many years of loyal and faithful service to the Daughters and to Rosalie. A lawn service has been hired to help take care of our beautiful gardens. Gerome Anderson has been promoted to Maintenance Supervisor and is doing a fantastic job. Deep appreciation is expressed to Bobbie Thomas, Special Events Chairman; Polly Grimes, Special Events Vice Chairman; and Sally Campbell, Special Events Committee in charge of decorations. They did a superb job from the beginning of registration to the end of the meeting. Thank you so much!!! Please appoint a chapter Rosalie Chairman and share a minute about Rosalie at each meeting. Your love and support are greatly appreciated. Sharon Cothern Nettles Chairman, Rosalie Governing Board ROSALIE MANSION MARKET SILENT AUCTION at State Conference February 16-18, 2017 Each chapter is asked to bring one or more upscale items to State Conference for the Silent Auction benefitting Rosalie.
