6 Headquarters Bulletin Spring has finally arrived!! The Spring Conference is right around the corner. I hope everyone is working on their reports. If you have misplaced any previous bulletins you can find them on the web page kyamlegionaux.org. It is that time of year and your unit should be having their elections. As soon as you have your elections please send me the name, address, phone number and address of your new officers. This information is used for the monthly bulletin mailing list. If your Unit wants to have their own ALAMIS (American Legion Auxiliary Membership Information System) log in ID, you can get one by sending me your Unit #, individuals name, e- mail address and contact phone number. Each unit can have two log in IDS. The cost is $10.00 (per log in ID) a year. With this ID you can, keep up with your Unit membership, update member addresses, name changes, print your membership roster, print un-paid members and print paid members list. I will have poppy labels at the Spring Conference if any unit needs them. I do not have any poppy kits. If you have members that have not paid their 2015 renewal, please be advised that they will not have a pre-printed 2016 membership card. Hope to see you all at the Spring Conference! 7 March Membership Bulletin April showers bring May flowers and maybe Membership too!!!! At bulletin time we were at 77%, I am optimistic that we will be over the 80% mark by mid month. Wow the year is racing by. We know most units have been pushing through as we still get in membership almost daily. Thanks for keeping on top of it. We do have several who have made 100% and many in the 80 to 90 range. I know we can get down and dirty to get those pesky last minute renewals going. SO----GO GO GO Team Kentucky!!!! 4 Districts are over 80% and remember the race is going into the 4th turn and anything can happen, so those middle of the field membership horses can easily take the lead. Currently 6th, 7th and 4th are in the lead and we challenge the other 8 districts to race to the finish line for first place. On the attached membership worksheet, notice the units that have not yet paid assessments. (If your unit # is highlighted, then that means you HAVE paid your assessments). All others, please get those assessments paid, so we can award your good works. A unit that has not paid assessments, will not qualify for any awards. Reminders: - Elevator Speech Contest at Spring Conference. Be ready to compete with your Best One! - Next goals are 90% by April 15 th (these must be postmarked by April 14 th due to conference on the 17 th. - Apple Pie award by April 15 th 100% in one of either Renewal or Total for $50 to be awarded in June. - Do not hold Membership, we want Kentucky to be able to take advantage of all who have paid. - Mail cards to members in a timely manner, so they can get the benefits of membership. - Look over your rejoin list and try and recruit some of those back in. - Remember new female veterans are free for both Department and national dues. (ask how to process these) - Call us, your membership team, with any questions regarding membership. We are here to serve you. - There will be parade of membership at conference for those renewals not in the mail in time to reach Jennifer by April 15th and you want to turn it in --- in person. Small token of appreciation will be provided. - Ideas for membership, see if anyone would like to pay someone's renewal, have a membership drive, work with the Post to see if they have any family members that are eligible to join and just have not been asked. The biggest reason most applicants say there were not members were they were not asked... Wear Auxiliary Apparel which many times prompts people to ask who and what we are. It's a great lead in to promote our GREAT organization. - Trouble with your home post, remember that Auxiliary meetings do not have to be held at a legion. In fact recently we found out that most Chicago Legions do not even have a home post, they meet at work, at churches, community centers, Libraries. 6th District has a legion with an Auxiliary that does not have a post home and they meet at the library. Its about people working together. So if you do have a post home, reach out to them to see if they would like to use that for any fundraisers. Let's work together team and the membership will come. Recently at the Washington conference another member of our auxiliary (from another state) was giving out Be nice to each other buttons. They were a huge hit. So we are signing off with this message, be nice to each other and welcome all members with Open Arms. We are here for our Veterans. Let us know if there is anything we can do and we hope to see you all in April at conference!!! We got SPIRIT, yes we do, We got SPIRIT, How About YOU?????? 9 April Legislative Bulletin Ladies, I just want to remind you to keep writing to your elected officials on veterans affairs. It is important that they are made aware of how members of the largest veterans organization stand. Please send me copies of any responses you receive. 10 Hello Ladies, I have not received many prayers for President Lana's prayer book. Please make sure your unit chaplain provides me with a prayer, favorite hymn, scripture or something spiritual for President Lana's prayer book. You can find the annual report form on the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Kentucky website if you do not have one. Please make sure all names of your deceased members are turned in no later than May 15, 2015 we do not want anyone left out of the memorial service. I hope all unit chaplains are busy working on prayer books and report forms. Hope to see your prayer books and reports at Spring Conference ( for early birds) or by May 15, FOR GOD AND COUNTRY Department Of Kentucky Chaplain Patty Martinez 1062 Dana Dr Lawrenceburg, Ky cell home

11 Historian Happy Spring! Don t forget your History books are due May 1 st. You may bring them to Spring Conference if you have them ready. I am so looking forward to reading them. Reflecting on where we have been and how far we have come is crucial in charting our course for the future. Keeping in mind, every decade a book is published that chronicles the Auxiliary s record of service for God and Country and we sure want the Department of Kentucky to make a good showing. Remember, you may do your History Book a little bit differently this year. Your history book will still have the following: I. Introduction 1. Title Page a. History of Unit b. Name of Unit Historian c. Date: Current administrative year 2. Dedication (maybe make it to your Unit President) 3. Photograph of Unit President, 5 x 7 in. black and white or color. 4. Prayer 5. Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America 6. First verse of The Star Spangled Banner 7. Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary II. Appearance 1. Cover: Soft cover binder for loose-leaf paper, preferably blue with 2.5 in. gold foil American Legion Auxiliary seal centered on the cover or a regulation binder with imprinted seal. 2. Paper: White, 8½ by 11 in. 3. Page Setup for Pages 1-7: a. Margins Left, right, top and bottom margins should be 1 in. b. Page numbers should begin on the first page of the Historical Content. They should be centered and placed 0.5 in. from the bottom of the page. 4. Spacing: Double-spaced with the exception of the Introductory pages (i.e. Title Page, Foreword or Dedication, Photograph of the Unit President, Prayer, Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, first verse of The Star Spangled Banner and Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary), which shall be centered in the middle of the page. Paragraphs may be indented or in block form. 5. Text: 12 point font, Times New Roman or Arial style font 6. Technology: Computer preferred, however a typewritten or handwritten history is permissible. If typewritten or handwritten, the page set up should not vary from what is required of computer users. (This is where we are going to have fun and do things differently) III. Historical Content (70 scoring points) After your introduction pages, each month as you record your unit s history, YOU MAY USE photos, decorations, computer graphics, pen or ink drawings, illustrations, or newspaper clippings. In other words, a scrapbook history, if you will. IV. Arrangement 1. Written in third person 2. Clear, concise language with correct spelling

12 3. The signature of the Unit Historian should immediately follow the final paragraph of the history. There will be a trophy for the best Senior and Junior History Book. Be original and unique in thought and presentation! Please do not hesitate to call or me with any questions. God Bless America! 22 Community Service Bulletin April 2015 Lisa Norvell Chair, I know you have all been very busy working within your Communities to help its members have better lives. I just want to remind you to please REPORT those activities so the rest of our Organization will know how hard KENTUCKY works to make our Communities a better place to live. Please remember when reporting I need a TOTAL of hours donated, the amount of money spent or donated, and the number of members involved with the projects. Members that volunteer within our communities can report their hours. I have received a few reports that have described wonderful projects but they did not include the above information. As much as I would like to I am not able to go through each narrative and pick out the numbers I will need to send to Division and National. I have to rely on YOU to do that. If you don t have time to write a narrative at least send the numbers. I only had 10 reports at Mid-year and I know every one of our Units and their members do something in their Communities. I will need your reports by May 1. is preferred but I will take reports however you can send them. GOD BLESS AMERICA AND ALL WHO SERVE Thank you for allowing me to serve as your Community Service Chair this year. Lisa
