1 H the OOT Owl KKG Wichita flickr.com/photos/kkgwichita kkgwichita.org Newsletter of the KKG Wichita Alumnae Association From the President Dear Kappa Sisters, Listen my Kappas and you shall hear Of exciting meetings about Kappa all year. On the eleventh of September in 2012 Join us for dinner and into KKG trivia we ll delve Making more Kappa memories, have no fear. I cannot express how honored and excited I am to be your Alumnae President. Thank you for having faith in me and providing me with this wonderful opportunity. After 20 years as yearbook chairman, I was more than willing to try something new. I had a blast at the National Kappa Convention in Jacksonville Florida. Chris Wallace and Melissa Smith were also there, so Wichita was well represented. Plus, it more fun to have someone there I knew! I returned with renewed Kappa appreciation, ideas, and energy. What a fantastic board we have! We had 19 at the board meeting and dinner at my house in June. Everyone was full of ideas and raring to go; I look forward to working with them this year. Sarah Jervis has worked hard this spring and summer to plan a great calendar of meetings and programs; I hope you will find them exciting and put the dates on your calendar. We want you there. Thank you to Karen Norton for being a great past president and a good mentor to me and passing on the books in good shape. She also will be our Rose McGill Chairperson and has agreed to take on the Yearbook (We just exchanged notebooks). My goal is to increase membership in our alumnae group and attendance at our meetings. We ve tried to plan varied, fun, and meaningful Kappa meetings and programs. Also, I am going to have a trivia contest at each meeting about Kappa facts. I hope that we will be reminded of our fantastic ties to Kappa and have fun at the same time. Oh, and by the way, there are prizes I ve been told. Kappa has provided so much to all of us not just during our college days but now as alumnae, and we all have talents that we can bring to Kappa. Let s continue and treasure that relationship with Kappa. (Continued on page 2)

2 2 President s Letter (continued) Here is a sample of Kappa fun to come. I made this trivia easy so that you can all answer this one correctly. Kappa Question: What college is the home to the first Kappa chapter and in what city and state is it located? Come to the first gathering September 11 to find out if you correctly answered the first of many Kappa questions to come. See you in September. L & L Judy Rapp President, Wichita Alumnae Association Changes to the Rose McGill Magazine Agency After careful consideration, the Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity Council regrets to announce that the Rose McGill Magazine Agency has closed. Magazines may still be ordered through the thirdparty vendor who has been handling Kappa s account. A link at will direct members to the vendor to place orders. Kappa will continue to receive any royalties that are generated from current and future magazine purchases; however, the agency itself is being absorbed into the Fraternity and will no longer exist as a separate entity. The reading time is only about 20 minutes per classroom, and volunteers can sign up for multiple time slots if they wish. It s very fulfilling to read to these children we hope more Kappas will get involved!
