For the third consecutive year, Cottey is a host location for the LUNAFEST film festival, featuring eight short films by women cinematographers. Established in 2000 by LUNA, the makers of the Whole Nutrition Bar for Women, LUNAFEST connects women, their stories, and their causes through film. This traveling film festival spotlights the work of a diverse array of talented women filmmakers with intelligent, funny and thought-provoking themes. A portion of the ticket sales will be donated to The Moss House in Nevada, and the Friends of Peace Scholarship Fund at Cottey. 2 LEO Recognition The Leadership, Experiences, Opportunity Certification program recognized the following students for completing a LEO level during fall 2014: LEO Level 1: Rising Leader Rising leaders are active participants on the Cottey campus through campus organizations, events, and volunteer service. 3 LEO Recognition (cont.) Level 4: Change Maker The final level of the LEO program, change makers reflect on their leadership journey at Cottey and present their leadership learning to the campus community. Change makers have the option of submitting a grant proposal to lead a major service project of their choice. Please join Madeleine Jeffries, Alina Ghulam Rasool, and Ashley Williamson as they present their final LEO level 4 portfolio presentation on Thursday, February 5, at 7 p.m. in RBAC 109. Other LEO level 4 presentations will be held at a future date to be determined this spring. LEO Field Trip PTK Eligibles The following students have earned an invitation to join PTK. Membership eligibility is based on the following requirements: (1) a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 3.50, (2) completion of at least 15 hours during the fall 2014 semester, and (3) a minimum earned G.P.A. of 3.50 during the fall 2014 semester. Please congratulate them and encourage them to join. The induction ceremony is Sunday, February 8, at 3 p.m. in the Missouri Recital Hall and is open to all. Four runners - Chase Burns, Ruth Chebet, Sarah Kurpjuweit, and Kayla Tickler - will be competing in a variety of distance races, from the 800 meter to the 5,000 meter (5k) race. 5 Wellness Program Movin & Losin Corporate Challenge What is it? Go head-to-head with the other businesses in Nevada in a Movin & Losin Corporate Challenge! Two three-month challenges will be initiated on Monday, February 2, to log the most miles of activity or to lose the most weight! Sign up for either challenge or if you re feeling extra motivated, sign up for both! We will be following each business and will be posting weekly updates to the Healthy Nevada Facebook page. The business that averages the most activity and loses the most weight per participant will receive a prize and bragging rights for the whole year! The individuals who perform the best will receive our grand prizes! You don t want to miss out on this opportunity to be Nevada s Corporate Challenge Champion! The challenge runs from February 2 April 30, Interested in getting involved? 1. Contact Karen Polon - kpolon@cottey.edu or ext and let her know which challenge you are participating in. If you are doing the Losin part of the challenge see Shaun West in Health Services to weigh-in during the week of February 2-6. Please come to Health Services (second floor Hinkhouse) during the afternoon and call ext 2157 to ensure Shaun is there before coming over. Yoga continues in the large dance studio on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:20 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come and participate. Give it a try - you may like it! Opportunity Scholarships Human Resources Do you know a student who is planning to stay to complete a bachelor degree at Cottey? Second- and third-year students who have a 2.0 GPA or higher and plan to stay at Cottey next year are eligible for a $3,000 Opportunity Scholarship which is renewable for up to two years. Faculty members must nominate students by writing a letter of recommendation and submitting it to Dr. Pridal by February 15. If you feel that you or a loved one has not had the measles, mumps or rubella vaccine (also referred to as the MMR vaccine), please see your health provider as soon as possible.
