1 The Chronicle volume A Weekly Look at the Cottey College Campus XXIX, number 27, April 3, 2015 Distinguished Speaker: Dr. Beth Wheaton Tuesday, April 7:00 p.m. Missouri Recital Hall Although she holds titles ranging from economist to professor to CEO, Dr. Wheaton is most vocal about the fact that you don t need a title, unlimited time, or abundant money to change the world. Her greatest commitment in life is working with students, community members, colleagues, and friends to put their unique and varied talents into action to create cataclysmic social change. Wheaton holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in economics from Temple University, and an M.S. in international business and trade from Grambling State University. She is an economics senior lecturer at Southern Methodist University (SMU), and the founder and CEO of Equip the Saints, a non-profit consultancy that works to strengthen nonprofit organizations worldwide and to equip world changers to fulfill their personal missions. Dr. Wheaton s address is titled Guiders: Leading the Way by Closing the Gaps. A short reception will follow in the foyer of the Center for the Arts. The Royal Saturday, April 8:00 p.m. Center for the Arts, Auditorium The Royal are an anthemic, electro-infused pop/rock band. They have crafted a unique sound by mixing the energy of modern pop/rock with the bounce of club and house beneath infectious vocal melodies. They bring an energy that few other bands can offer. Combining addictive melodies, aggressive beats, and slick production, The Royal are working to redefine the term pop band. After several successful independent releases, expect 2015 to be an exciting year for The Royal. Tickets: $5/$4 (free for members of Cottey community)

3 Founder s Day Weekend 2015 The Office of Annual Fund & Alumnae Relations would like to thank everyone for their attendance and support this past weekend. Each of you helped make the event a smashing success! There were 270 registered alumnae and 48 guests for a total of 318 in attendance. The Founder s Day Luncheon was a success with 220 alumnae and guests in attendance. Once again the supper and sing was separated to ensure that overcrowding did not occur in the dining room. This year ALL class years were present at the sing and the change was very well received. The event concluded in a cross-generational circle of alumnae signing in unison Daisies in the Sun. Throughout the weekend, amateur videos were taken and posted to the Alumnae Facebook page ( Each video reached over 1,000 people. Once again alumnae recruitment presentations, led by Stephanie Grgurich, were held as well as the student/alumnae networking session, spearheaded by Renee Hampton. These were both excellent activities, and the efforts of Stephanie and Renee were greatly appreciated! New this year was a session that coincided with class photos. Alumnae were asked to share their name, class year, current/former occupation, and make a few statements about their Cottey experience. The Annual Fund and Alumnae Office looks forward to sharing this completed project with you in the near future. The weekend would not have been possible without the help of so many individuals. Whether you prepared and served the delicious meals, cleaned and prepared the facilities, provided technical support, ran lights and sound for presentations, or greeted and welcomed our alumnae to campus, you were all instrumental in making the weekend the success that is was. Especially heartwarming were the numerous new employees that showed up throughout the weekend to learn more about this Cottey tradition. Thank you all for being a part of the Cottey family and for your dedication to supporting women s education!
