The Careers in 2 Years marketing campaign was developed to address the growing technical skills gap identified by 100+ Greater Reading companies. This campaign targets high school aged students and their parents to consider CTE as an educational option. Faculty Staff Club OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY: ARE WE MEETING THE STANDARDS? 2:20 p.m. 3:20 p.m. BREAKOUT SESSIONS Mr. Mark Threeton Assistant Professor of Education, Pennsylvania State University This session will share research findings on health and safety of CTE programs. Many CTE laboratories and classrooms are often filled with dangerous tools, equipment, materials and processes within a wide range of environmental conditions, which are difficult to control. Career and technical educators, unlike their academic counterparts, are expected to manage the learning environment to control for these potential hazards. Come learn about recent research findings, which identified common deficiencies associated with occupational health and safety in CTE programs. Participants will learn to use data to remove factors such as unsafe conditions and acts within CTE programs. SLO models developed by PA CTE practitioners will be provided as will as short tour of the online template and supporting development and assessment literacy training materials. Faculty Staff Club UNDERSTANDING DIFFERENCES AMONG PROGRAM OF STUDY, ADVANCED CREDIT AND DUAL ENROLLMENT Dr. Jeannette Carter Director, Outreach for K-12, Pennsylvania College of Technology Ms. Elizabeth Biddle K-12 Project Manager, Pennsylvania College of Technology In this session the presenters will share information related to Programs of Study, Articulated Credit, Dual Enrollment and others are forms of college credit awarded for achievement in high school and in career and technology centers. How are they alike and how are they different? This session will use Pennsylvania College of Technology as an example to illustrate the way students can earn college credit, how they are awarded on a college transcript, impact on transferability to other colleges, what they mean in regards to graduation and provide a general understanding of the relative value of different types of college credits to secondary students. We will also discuss the benefits of utilizing national certification as a tool for CTE program evaluation and a way to collect outcome data for your health science students and programs.
