Our 2012 Summer Reading Program begins June 1!. Sign up for arts and crafts workshops with area artists on June 1, awe at the wonders of magic and nature, and more. Most importantly, read! Here s how we re kicking things off. Audubon Wetland Wildlife Express to visit. Children ages 3 and up can learn about wetlands and the creatures that inhabit them at 10 a.m. on June 1 at the South Lafourche Branch and at 1 p.m. on June 1 at the Lockport Branch when the Audubon Zoo s Wetland Wildlife Express visits. It s free. Pet a pooch or two at the. HOPE for Animals will kick off the s Summer Reading Program at 10 a.m. on June 1. The group will teach children about pet care and responsibility and bring along a few animals for kids to pet. It s magic Magician Glen Ghirardi to perform. Magician Glen Ghirardi will perform four shows in June, two on June 5 and two on June 6. It s free. Here s the schedule. Tr y o u r Kindle Fire s New to ereaders or want to test drive a newer model? The Thibodaux, Lockport, and South Lafourche branches are now offering a Kindle Fire for checkout for in-library use. To borrow one, cardholders must be in good standing and have a valid state-issued photo ID that lists a local address. Those who check out the ereader can then select an ebook or audiobook for checkout from the library s digital catalog. The ereader must be returned 20 minutes before the library closes.
