1 FEBRUARY 6, Jacob Avenue San Jose, CA (408) Thank you.. for a wonderful Book Fair and Ice Cream Social! It was so wonderful to see all of our Reed families Tuesday night for our Book Fair and Ice Cream Social! None of this would have been possible without our amazing chairs. Thank you to Michelle Daily and Caroline Youkhanna for a once again extremely successful Book Fair. One more day to go, thank you again! We would also like to thank Jennifer Leighton for heading our ice cream social this year. A very successful team resulted in super successful night. Thanks again! Wendy Feierfeil and Andrea Ulicki president@reedpta.com 3 rd - 5 th Grade Music Concert We are looking forward to watching our 3rd-5th grade students perform at Reed s Annual Music Concert! Hours to submit: Any time spent on school/pta volunteer activities i.e. helping in the classroom, field trips, prepping for Art Vistas/Cornerstone or similar, event planning/set up/clean up, shopping for treats/supplies, meetings, class basket, phone calls, s, photocopying, creating/hanging posters, etc. How to submit: Send your hours in a lump sum no need to have specific dates/times. them to volunteers@reedpta.com. Why it s important: Our volunteer hours help us maintain our non-profit status, and are also included in Reed s yearly reports. They show the wonderful level of volunteer support for our school. Thank you for all you do all year! Stacey McLaren Volunteer Coordinator volunteers@reedpta.com
2 Thank You To All Supporters of Our Scrip Program We have raised over $1000 selling Scrip from Aug '13 to Jan 14'. Please help us raise that number for the PTA programs. Using scrip can help you keep on budget and you won't have to worry about the issues of possible identity theft when you use your credit/debit card at the stores and online. Purchase scrip at the table outside the cafeteria Mon/Wed/Fri before or after school with cash or check. Or send your order to school with payment and we can send it home with your child. Thank you for supporting the scrip program. Lita Bell and Caroline Youkhanna Labels for Education Contest Have you been clipping UPC codes with the Labels for Education logo on them? If so great! If not, it is never too late to start. See the forms at the end of this newsletter for more information and participating products listing. The contest will be running from February 3rd - 14th. Turn in your UPC codes in a bag with your child's name and teacher to the collection box in the office. The class that turns in the most will win a Popsicle party! We currently have 22,787 points in our account and our goal is to get 32,750. If we reach our goal we will be able to order the Classroom Jeopardy game. With new technology, this game hooks up to our digital projectors, uses remote control buzzers and allows teachers to download or customize their own questions. It is both extremely fun for the kids and educational! Musical Maniacs! Reed PTA s after-school chorus, the Musical Maniacs, is open for registration to committed 2nd through 5th graders! Participants must be able to attend rehearsals after school every Monday from March 3rd through May 19th, from 3:10 4:30pm, and be able to focus on a task for an extended period, take direction, and work cooperatively with other students as part of a team. Participants will practice improving their vocal technique and learn a choreographed song which they will perform at International Day. See the attached flyer and registration form for details! You can turn in your registration and payment to the office. Deadline is Friday, February 28th or until 50 students have registered, whichever is first. Ineke Boscarino music@reedpta.com Calling Parent Helpers! The PTA needs a Mom or Dad who can help with the tether balls (putting up in the morning/taking down after school) and blowing up the classroom balls for our kids. If you are able to help with this please president@reedpta.com So get clipping!!! Ann Sawicki LFE Chair
3 PTA meeting Highlights from February 4, 2014 Mrs. Mendoza would like parents to help prepare students for computerized testing by using a mouse instead of a touch screen. Testing begins the week before Spring Break. Also, please remember to focus on student safety while parking. Please do not drive through the parking lots on campus before or after school. Mrs. Walker thanked the PTA for increasing the Technology Budget. The additional funds will help purchase much needed equipment for programs and testing. Variety Show: Students have begun practicing for the Variety Show on March 18 th. Now is the time to turn in your Labels for Education. The contest ends next Friday. The Walk-A-Thon committee is planning our upcoming Step for Tech Walk-A-Thon on April 11th. Look for details on the T-shirt Design contest coming soon. If you know a small business that may be interested in sponsoring this fun community event, please contact fundraising@reedpta.com. Have you submitted all of your volunteer hours to the office or on sign in sheets? Please historian@reedpta.com if you have any additional hours to report. We are so excited about this week s Book Fair. Please come to the Ice Cream Social on Tuesday evening from 5:30-7:30. The book fair will also be open in the evening to shop after an ice-cream treat. The Book Fair opens before school on Thursday morning for Bagels and Books. Spring Music Concerts: Mark your calendars for the wonderful music concerts by grade level: February 11 th (3 rd -5 th grade includes Ms. Jamieson s 2/3 combo class), March 25 th (1 st -2 nd grade) and April 1 st (Kinder). Students will receive more information from their teacher on exact times. Volunteer Needed: The PTA is looking for an interested volunteer to help assist with P.E. Equipment. Please contact president@reedpta.com for more information. Our wonderful Fall Festival is beginning to be planned for next year. We are looking for ideas to make this a great community event. If you have suggestions or ideas please contact reedfallfestival@yahoo.com.
