1 The Chatfield School November 27, 2017 Bi-Monthly Newsletter The Chatfield School 231 Lake Dr. Lapeer, MI School Directors Mr. William Kraly Mr. Matthew Young Website: Staff first initial last Example: From the Desk of the Directors Congratulations Robotics Team We would like to extend congratulations to our robotics students and coaches Nick Lange and Jon Gleeson. The robotics team recently won the VEX Robotics Competition Tournament Championship. This qualifies the team for the Eastern Michigan Regional Championship! We are very proud of our robotics teams and their hard work! The teams currently meet on Tuesday evenings and membership is open to all middle school students. Great job team and best of luck preparing for regionals! Holiday Service - Teaching Kids to Help Others This holiday season we have several ways that Chatfield kids and families can help others. Please consider how you and your family might be involved. Adopt a Family will start on Friday, Dec. 1 with opportunities for each family to purchase items for two families in Lapeer County. We work with Holiday Depot on this program. We are collecting new toys for Toys for Tots. Toys can be delivered to the Toys for Tots boxes around the school. Student Council is also collecting toiletries, new socks, gloves, and mittens for homeless and supplies for Paradise Animal Rescue. Focus on Learning Teachers are currently working with students to achieve learning targets/goals that were identified at the fall data drops and conferences. Please remember the importance of healthy eating, breakfast, and a good night's sleep for students to be ready to learn. Spend 10 minutes a night working on math facts and 20 minutes reading (read aloud, independent, or partner reading). December 19 Treat Street, Trolley Rides, and Reindeer will be busy here at Chatfield on December 19. Please remember us when you are doing your holiday baking. Please send in a dozen or so baked goods for treat street. Matt Young and Bill Kraly, Co-Directors HOLIDAY BOOK FAIR The Book Fair is here! November 27th through December 1st students will preview books with their class and then have a time to shop. The Book Fair will be open from 3:35-4:15 p.m. so that students may shop with an adult after school. The fair will be open until 6;00 p.m. on Thursday and will close at noon on Friday. STUDENT COUNCIL HAT DAYS Students may wear a hat in school on Friday, December 1, December 15, and January 19th for $1.00 per day. Proceeds will support student council activities.
2 SCHOOL CLOSING INFO It s that time of year again when we must discuss school closings. As you know, the weather and roads can be an issue this time of year. Mr. Kraly and Mr. Young want you to know that they are always concerned about the safety of the students and parents. We will be working with the superintendents from other local school districts and the Lapeer Intermediate School District to determine the conditions around the county. If your local district is closed that does not mean that Chatfield is closed. The school directors will make the determination as early as possible and send out messages via: Don t forget to collect your box tops! BOYS BASKETBALL OPEN GYM An Open Gym for boys in grades 5-8 that are interested in basketball for Chatfield will be on December 4th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. All 5-8th grade boys at Chatfield are welcome to attend and play basketball. Radio: WWJ 950, WJR 760, WMPC 1230 Television: Fox 2, Local 4, ABC 7, WWJTV CBS, CW 50, ABC 12 Internet: Skylert School Messenger: Parents can adjust their contact preferences, , Text, Phone Call, by going into Skyward Family Access and clicking on the Skylert tab. As a general rule of thumb Chatfield School does not have early release on days where the weather and roads become worse during the day. We will provide updates regarding the status of evening activities by posting them to the school website. SANTA S SECRET HOLIDAY SHOPPE December we will have our student holiday shop with students having the option to purchase gifts for family members. We need your help. Here are some of the tasks that need to be accomplished: Organize gift envelopes for students to organize gift giving plan. Help set up the shop on Tuesday evening, Dec. 12. Parent volunteers to help students shop, count change (for the younger kids) and to run the cash register. If you are crafty we love to sell parent made and local craft items: examples include ornaments, magnets, unique items. All profits benefit the PIE group. Please let Mr. Kraly or Mr. Young know if you are available to help. A volunteer sign up is posted online. But there is always a November space after the leaves have fallen when she felt it was almost indecent to intrude on the woods for their glory terrestrial had departed and their glory celestial of spirit and purity and whiteness had not yet come upon them.
