2 Infectious Diseases in Clinical Practice: Update on Inpatient and Outpatient Infectious Diseases Kauai, Hawaii February 14-19, 2016 Presented by the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, at the University of California, School of Medicine, this course reviews clinically relevant topics in infectious diseases which are chosen because they are of interest to the practicing clinician or because there have been significant recent advances in diagnosis or treatment. TARGET AUDIENCE The course is designed to meet the needs of a variety of clinicians, including primary care physicians, family physicians, general practitioners, hospitalists, internists, nurse practitioners, pediatricians, clinical pharmacists, and other health professionals who are involved with infectious diseases in the inpatient or outpatient settings. OBJECTIVES Upon completion of the activity an attendee will be able: To apply knowledge and principles to diagnose, manage, and treat common infections encountered in clinical practice such as skin and soft tissue infections, respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, gastrointestinal infections, hepatitis, endocarditis, staphylococcal infections, nosocomial infections, and infections of the central nervous systems; To identify and manage less common infections, such as Lyme disease, pseudomonas infections, infections in immunocompromised patients, and infections associated with travel; To implement a work-up to diagnose HIV infection and manage the more common HIV-associated infectious diseases; To incorporate into his or her practice use of newer vaccines and antimicrobial agents including an understanding of their efficacy and appropriate usage for prevention and treatment of bacterial, viral, and fungal infections; To recognize and treat the more common dermatologic manifestations of infectious diseases. ACCREDITATION The University of California, School of Medicine (UCSF) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. UCSF designates this live activity for a maximum of 20.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This CME activity meets the requirements under California Assembly, Bill 1195, continuing education and cultural and linguistic competency. Nurses For the purpose of recertification, the American Nurses Credentialing Center accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credit TM issued by organizations accredited by the ACCME. Physician Assistants AAPA accepts category 1 credit from AOACCME, prescribed credit from AAFP, and AMA PRA Category 1 Credit TM from organizations accredited by the ACCME. Pharmacy The California Board of Pharmacy accepts as continuing professional education those courses that meet the standard of relevance to pharmacy practice and have been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit TM. Family Physicians Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending.
